Things they need to fix?

But Pan didn't have to do any running or ass-whooping, Hellboy does. This makes those prosthetics very difficult.

he could do the running and ass whooping in the pants and boots, but have his quiet moments chilling with his cats and eating pamcakes with his hooves out :woot:

I don't think you can really compare the guy's feet to whether he wears a shirt or not. :oldrazz: And he does wear the samaritan the same way that he does in the comic. That said, I would like to see the guy go shirtless more often. Show off those abs, man!

lol, Ron Pearlman talking about the abs in the audiocommentary is hilarious. "i was up at 2 every moring doing sit ups."

That'd be great actually. More along the lines of what I was thinking. I'd love to see him just walking around the BPRD like that.

If you look closely at HB's feet in the comics, he does wear footwear of sorts, and the cleats just encompass the toe-end half of his foot. The rest of it, the heel and ankle, is more human. So maybe he could wear boots. But the CG investment on having him with hooves in the film I think would be high, as he's in virtually every scene in the film.

HM

Yeah i know about his feet in the comics and animated movies, but they were more human than the brief glimpse we got in the movie IMO, the one's in the movie were more like horses hooves, which made it impractical that he wears those boots and which is why i'm glad they are being left out of HBII.

I can imagine elements will be done better, because they are taking this film a bit more seriously.

^I hope they go a bit more down the horror route as wel, the comics have some great horror moments in them that i would love to see adapted in some way, plus i thought the first movie didnt go down the horror road enough.

One thing they need to fix -

Give us the real Abe. Jettison David Hyde Pierce. Doug Jones voice works so much better for the character. LET ABE FIGHT. Abe is not a prissy scientist like Niles. He's Hellboy's partner.

Bring in Kate Corrigan. A human woman that LIKES Hellboy.

I like they are getting rid of keeping Hellboy a public secret. That was way too contrived and MIB.

Doug WILL be voicing Abe this time around, and the fishstick will be doing some serious ass-whuppin,' have no fear. ;)

I too would love to see Kate in the movies. She's one of my favourite characters in the BPRD.

Not letting Jones voice Abe was a dumb mistake on Del Toro's part. He has a voice perfect for the role, and Pierce did not do the character justice.

As far as i remember it wasnt GDT's decision to have DHP voice Abe, it was the studio's, and i thought DHP did a great job anyway.

It was a combination of GdT and the studio. David had always been first choice as the voice, even before Doug was cast, but Doug asked to have his voice considered. Kevin Spacey and Steve Buscemi were also in the running, but ir finally came down to DHP and Doug. They went for the better-known voice. DHP did a great job and the man is not only a frikkin' genius but a gentleman to boot, but now everything is as it should be. Doug's doing the voice this time around, and he has all of his character back.

Pierce is fine as Niles, but his voice as Abe ruined the character and was disrespectful. Jones voice on the animated movies is really the perfect voice for Abe. He nails Abe that much more than Pierce. All Pierce did was make Abe Sapien, Abe Crane.

that sux. after seeing the first hellboy so much and getting used to how abe sounds i was quite attached to it. thatll be a little hard to get used to a different voice

Well it was the only time he voiced him so go ahead and watch the two animated movies, read the comics, and play the game when it comes out and it'll be cake. It is for me anyway since I never imagined the guy sounding all british and proper...What the hell kind of accent does Kelsey Grammer, David Hyde Pierce, and Stewie Griffin have anyway? Aren't these people American?

Once again. Abe is Hellboy's partner. He's NOT a scientist.

I still thought the voice fit him though, he is an intellegent person after all and one who doesnt seem to get involved in much violence, so a gentle voice fit him IMO.

I'm guessing you've never read many Hellboy comics for you to say this. The point is that Jones has a good gentle voice. Pierce's voice did not fit and was totally the wrong tone for the character.

Wrong, i have read Wake The Devil, The Chained Coffin and Others, The Right Hand Of Doom, and Conquerer Worm. Thats plenty of comics, and i'm not saying DJ's voice is wrong, just saying DHP's isnt.

When Doug went in to the looping session, he was told by Guillermo and the producers that they were looking for a voice that was part H.A.L. from 2001 and part Niles Crane, from Frasier. So, there you go. I thought David did a good job, given that Movie Abe isn't the same as Comic Abe, which Mike Mignola was happy with - he prefers to have other people have their 'take' on his characters. Doug's Abe is less twee, and I read somewhere on the comment boards on IMDb that he 'lent an everyman quality to the role' which I think says it perfectly.

Like many other choices and instances with the movie, Guillermo Del Toro was:

WRONG!!!

This is made evident by the fact that Jones is now voicing Abe. This is just one thing that's been fixed for the second movie. Doug Jones should've voiced Abe for the first movie, that simple.

And yes, David Hyde Pierce was wrong for the part. Abe has never been anything like Niles Crane. I don't know where Del Toro got that brain fart.

Then you should realize:

In SEED OF DESTRUCTION, Abe was the one that saved the day, NOT Hellboy. He was also the one that basically killed Rasputin.

Yet again, I have to say that Movie Abe is different from Comic Abe - and Mike was very happy with that, and still is. He actually prefers that others have their own 'take' on his work.

I agree that Doug should have voiced Abe right from the beginning (as he should have voiced the Surfer, but that's another story :D), but he didn't, and the voice they DID use, Mr David Hyde Pierce, wasn't bad at all - and was in fact based on the voice Dougie used on set, so in a weird way it was Doug being slightly Niles-ish being copied by David Hyde Pierce. Odd, but true.

However, Doug still might have been dubbed in this film by DHP if that kind and wonderful man had not declined to do the voice for Abe in the Animated films, as he had been asked to do so. They tried a DHP sound-a-like, which was terrible, then Ron Perlman just came out and said that Dougie should do the voice as he had done such a good job on set. Both the fans and critics loved the result, and THAT is how Doug got Abe's voice back for the film.

How did Abe save the day exactly, by forcing Bromhead into the room? Also, wasnt it Hellboy who beat the other demon with his ripped off horns, hardly Abe saving the day (this is the story Box Full Of Evil from the TPB TRHOD).

I think the story you are referring to is Seed Of Destruction, the first HB story, were Abe does indeed kill Rasputin (though i havent read the full story), but still Abe never comes accross as a real tough guy to me.

According to Doug Jones at Comic Con, the voice he used in the animated movies was the voice he created and had in mind for Abe originally for the movie. The voice just did not sound David Hyde Pierce at all to me. But it did sound like how Abe should sound.

Doug Jones never mentioned at all mimicking David Hyde Pierce with his Abe voice.

I never said he mimicked DHP - I said that the direction he was given when he voiced Abe in the first looping sessions was for a voice that was a cross between H.A.L. and Niles Crane. But Doug did his own thing, and did a wonderful, warm, intelligent voice that suits Abe to a T. But that is what the studios and GdT wanted in the beginning. In fact DHP used Doug's voice as Abe as a basis for his own interpretation of the character. That is the irony of it all.

When Doug came back to voice Abe in the HB Animated films, he went straight back to his original voice, and did a great job. David was given the voice originally because he was more of a 'name,' which didn't work for the studios because he refused a credit out of respect for Doug. A true gentleman.

Judging from what i have heard, Doug's voice is very similar to DHP's version, it just that Doug's is more of an American accent while DHP's was more English. But i still think DHP's was brilliant.
