This is the End

Ever since Judd Apatow announced that he was making a sort of Knocked Up spin-off featuring the married couple played by Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann, folks have been wondering whether there would be a role for Seth Rogen too. Even though the film will primarily focus on Rudd and Mann's characters, we wondered whether Apatow would make some time for us to catch up with Rogen's character (and his new baby) as well. According to Rogen himself, however, that's not happening.

Movies.com spoke to the actor for his upcoming cancer comedy 50/50, and while he admitted to visiting the set of Apatow's latest movie (This Is Forty was the working title at one point), he claims he's not in it. "Yeah I'm not in it, but I went to visit the set and it looked hilarious," Rogen told us, later admitting that adding his character back into the equation may have been a bit jarring for audiences. "It was a good choice, honestly, because I think it would've confused people.," he said. "But I'm really looking forward to seeing it; I thought the script was unbelievably funny."

During our interview Rogen also said that he'll be beginning production on Jay and Seth vs. the Apocalypse in February, which he calls an "oddly personal" film. He also confirmed that he'll be co-directing with writing partner Evan Goldberg, adding "It's now much more than just Jay and Seth -- there's many other people vs. the apocalypse now. It's gonna be crazy."

Cast announced:

About two weeks ago, Seth Rogen provided some updates on his upcoming film, Jay and Seth vs. the Apocalypse, specifically mentioning that the concept had expanded and many people would be involved. Now we are receiving word on who some of those people will be and, for those familiar with Rogen’s usual costars, there should be no surprises. Jonah Hill, Craig Robinson, Danny McBride, and James Franco have agreed to appear, all playing themselves just as Seth Rogen and Jay Baruchel will. There had also been a rumor that Daniel Radcliffe might join in the fun, but apparently that hasn’t worked out. Rogen stated that the Harry Potter star wasn’t “willing to push things as far” as the rest of the cast. Jay and Seth vs. the Apocalypse starts shooting in February with Rogen and writing partner Evan Goldberg taking directing duties.

Rogen went on to mention that the film will present a “pretty offensive vision of the apocalypse.” He wants a bunch of celebrities to have cameos as the dead versions of themselves. There’s no word on any potential actors lining up for that right now, but I’m sure by this point Rogen and company can pull a few strings. The film sounds like a bold, crazy experiment and one that I hope pays off. A movie with these actors just riffing off each other would be fine, but it seems like there’s more to this one from what’s been described, especially since Rogen and Goldberg have chosen this as their directorial debut. What are your thoughts on the casting for Jay and Seth vs. the Apocalypse?

the trailer is trying way to hard with known names.

but i think the concept could work if we didnt know that so many cameos will happen.

All that plus Emma Watson?

They're doing it on purpose, that's the joke. The whole thing is like one big in joke.

they shouldve released it this year. Looks hilarious though.

They should've released it tomorrow. lol

It looks great so far.

How is trying too hard when they're playing themselves? The whole point is celebs during the apocalypse.

Awesome idea and I love the short-film this is based on (Don't even bother linking/posting it or its trailer here - Foul language; big no no). But that was four-five years ago when these Apatow guys were still endearing.

Now it's tired and boring. They're playing themselves. Just an excuse to do their routines. Only during the Apocalypse.

This would have been so much better with a completely different cast. Like say, The Avengers.

It's supposed to be a comedy and would be a different film with the cast of Avenger's. I wish Robert Downey Jr was in this though.

The difference between good comedy and bad. Something I don't yet understand.
The idea that every film needs plot and development, a term we use to justify our personal preference...

Anyways, film will bomb for the simple fact that it wasn't released before this friday.

LOL this is funnier than I expected. The way Jonah said "fatalities" is hilarious. Oh yeah, and the Michael Cera joke was gold too.

"Good night, Franco. Sweet dreams."
"I love you."
"What?"

:funny:

I like how it poked fun at Franco sucking dick. I still think he's bi to some degree thus him denying it and his friends looking at him like "drop the act dude" was funny.

Looks pretty funny, and I'll be happy to check it out, but I strongly doubt it'll find an audience. This is too much of a *********ory in-joke between friends instead of a movie made with a real audience in mind.

We'll just have to see. I personally think it looks hilarious though, but it comes out the same weekend as MAN OF STEEL...

And we know Man of Steel has some pretty tough competition with this now.

Meaning MOS is ****ed
