Comics This is the X-Men's Manifest Destiny...

Im sad that Jean's not coming back. Oh well. I didnt get about how Storm and Ellis?

Well, Ellis having a crush on Storm, to me, means she'll be playing a big role in X-men, and I like that. And I think Ellis is really good at finding the strange things about characters that makes them tick. So I like that even more.

I'm not a big fan of seeing her with Black Panther, especially considering that it kinda divorced her from the X-men. To me, she's one of the best X-men.

Ive had a hard time looking at her as an X-men character since she married BP. She seems more like a guest star here whenever she appears.

- Gambit will be playing a role in X-Men: Legacy, while Mr. Sinister will be the “big bad” of the coming months. The title will also be where X-readers will be able to find Rogue.

Well, we knew Rogue would be around in Legacy. But at the very least there's evidence of Gambit possibly hanging around for more than one arc.

And if Sinister's involved, however they work that in, we can probably exorcise a few old Gambit plot points. Maybe Carey's going to recycle the idea that had Gambit being the one to take out Sinister at the end of MC?

X-MEN: MANIFEST DESTINY #2 (of 4)
Written by MIKE CAREY & CHRIS YOST
Penciled by MICHAEL RYAN & VARIOUS
Cover by HUMBERTO RAMOS
Mike Carey’s Iceman saga continues as things take a dark turn for Bobby Drake with the emergence of an old, deadly foe of the X-Men. Will this spell disaster for our hero or a new chapter in the history of this original X-Man? Also, Emma Frost as you’ve never seen her before. And find out what Boom Boom has been up to since NEXTWAVE!
48 PGS./Rated T+ …$3.99

A Boom Boom cameo? Seriously?

Somehow I get the feeling this'll be just as so-so as DWS.

And I'm seriously starting to worry about them ruining Ems. Damnit.

Meaning that the ruining part has already started even before the story itself.

Nah, just worried they're about to pull a Storm/Jean with Emma.

Not that she's being written as a nice girl or likeable no matter what awful act she commits, but the writers seem to be piling up the astonishing feats.

Emma looks slightly um...man-ish? Not as man-ish as she was in the all girls 500 cover, but still.

Turning-Emma-into-a-nice-girl isnt exactly a surprise. I always thought that Marvel was trying to push the former hell fire member into becoming the new blond Jean Grey

Cant wait till I see Iceman again!!

Not quite. One world: IllumiNAUGHTY.

there are so many things wrong with that picture of emma. she looks horrible, and her belly button is like at least two inches too low on her body!

i thought she was supposed to be extremely hot, but does anyone find that attractive?

It's not any more "horrendous" than the art of a lot of comics artists out there, or arists period.

I still like Ramos on X-Men. It's vibrant and energetic.

My little contribution to this thread:

http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=17346

QUESTION: Back when Rogue was incapacitated with Strain 88, Scott seemed to allow Bobby to take on a more prominent role as his right-hand-man -- gathering “his” team against the Marauders, manning the X-jet alongside him, engaging in serious conversations, and congratulating him on his actions in battle. Will we continue to see more of that kind of seriousness from Iceman, or will the events of the up and coming “Manifest Destiny” story change all of that?

Mike Carey: The “MD” story does put Bobby through the wringer in some very traumatic ways, and it does leave him in a different place, emotionally and in terms of how he views his role as an X-Man. The seriousness isn’t going away, Jo -- Bobby’s a veteran of a lot of conflicts, one of the most experienced X-Men, and he doesn’t feel the need any more to hide his insecurities behind flippant remarks. I mean, he’ll still make the occasional wisecrack, but he’s not a kid any more and he won’t be acting like one.

QUESTION: During (and after) the "Age of Apocalypse" storyline, it was revealed that Iceman's potential powers included the ability to, in essence, teleport via reverse-freezing molecules (or something like that). When Emma took over his body when she first joined the X-Men, she also noted that he only uses a fraction of his potential power.

I personally think Iceman's powers have yet to be fully explored and would welcome you guys to do so. Any chance of this happening soon?

Mike Carey: I’m really glad you asked, Paul -- and I agree with you. One of the things we’re exploring in the “Manifest Destiny” story is precisely this question of the limits of Iceman’s power. We have him doing a couple of very interesting -- and quite new -- things, while staying true to the internal logic of what we already know about his powers.

Here is another article that Mike Carey did for MArvel and what he plans on doing with Beast and Iceman in Manifest Destiny:

X-Men: Old School

Mike Carey dishes on what fans can expect when two of the original X-Men, Iceman and Beast, both embark on solo adventures

Nothing beats the originals.

Mike Carey has already proven his love of the merry mutants' history in the pages of X-MEN: LEGACY, and on September 3 he bring two of Professor Xavier's original students into the spotlight with X-MEN ORIGINS: BEAST #1 and the beginning of a four-part Iceman feature in X-MEN: MANIFEST DESTINY #1.

The last time we saw Iceman, he'd lost control of his powers during "Messiah CompleX." Now Carey, the man responsible for putting Bobby Drake through the wringer, has to help put him back together again.

"I think it's fair to say that he's still [convalescing]," Carey remarks. "Mystique's neural inhibitor is still in his system and it's wreaking havoc with his flesh-to-ice changes, and he's still troubled in his mind about some of the decisions he's made recently. He's not in a good way when we first meet him in MANIFEST DESTINY."

Like his fellow X-Men, Bobby makes the trip to San Francisco, in his case to get help with his condition.

"At the start of the story he's experiencing some very strange and unsettling symptoms—similar to the way he reacted when his power first kicked in," Carey explains. "He talks to Beast about this, and Beast suggests that it may be the toxins Mystique used on him, still working through his system and doing more and more harm along the way.

"[The Beast] sends a Blackbird jet, on auto-pilot, so that Bobby can do a coast-to-coast hop—but this turns out to be the start of a long and arduous journey for Bobby, both in terms of distance and psychologically."

The X-Men's move from Westchester to San Francisco has impacted all mutants differently, but for Iceman, it has a far more personal effect.

"As one of the original five X-Men, he's aware of how much history is tied into the mansion, so I think on one level he's very ambivalent about the move," Carey speculates. "But he's pretty much focused on his own problems at this stage—his own role as an X-Man, his own future with the team, and whether this shift from east to west marks the point where he should call it quits."

The answers to these questions will help shape Iceman in the months and years to come, and Carey hopes that Bobby's story, continuing throughout the four issues of the MANIFEST DESTINY anthology, will make fans look at the classic character a little differently.

"We're using [MANIFEST DESTINY] as an opportunity to remind readers of how cool and how extensive Iceman's powers are," the writer promises. "In that sense it's a re-definition of the character for the post-Messiah CompleX era. It also revisits a crucial relationship that will continue to be important for Bobby going forward."

Meanwhile, X-MEN ORIGINS: BEAST offers up a retelling of Hank McCoy's first meeting with Professor X, an encounter riddled with its fair share of drama when terrorists take the young mutant's father hostage.

"Hank's dad works for a nuclear power plant, and the kidnapping relates to that," Carey exposits. "Someone wants access to a certain item, a prototype that the plant has produced, and Mr. McCoy becomes a pawn in this villain's game—as does the young Hank McCoy."

For Carey, the opportunity to revisit Beast's origin seemed intriguing for a number of reasons.

"Beast is one of my favorite X-Men, and there's something kind of surreal about that origin as it was told back in [the] first run [of X-MEN]," the scribe remembers. "I always felt that there was something we weren't being told about [villains] the Conquistador, and I wanted to add in those beats. The changes are subtle, but they make a big difference by the time you get to the end of the story.

"The other fascinating thing about Beast's origin is how Professor X behaves at the end of it. It's one of the most awesome and extreme uses of his power in the canon."

Both Beast and Iceman helped form the original X-Men 45 years ago, and since then the two have enjoyed an enduring popularity among the mutants fan base. Carey ascribes their popularity to a number of factors.

"For me, Beast is fascinating and cool because of the crazy contradictions in his nature—because he's a genius and an aesthete in the body of an animal," he professes. "I always go back in my mind to that moment in Grant Morrison's run when he holds up his clawed hands and says to Jean, 'You knew me when I could play the guitar.'

"Bobby has been less consistently handled over the years. But his story—like Sam Guthrie's, in a lot of ways—has been the story of the apprentice who becomes a journeyman and then a master. We've seen him mature and grow into his power, and that's a very compelling process to watch."

And while Carey admits to thinking of Hank and Bobby differently than he does many of the mutants who have come after them, it's not necessarily because they were there from the beginning.

"I think of them differently because they're among my favorite X-Men, along with Rogue, Cyclops and Cannonball," Carey confesses. "It's not because they were in there from the start—Angel was, too, and I can honestly say that I don't feel such a strong connection to Angel.

"But the fact that they've got 50 years of history behind them makes you very careful about how you handle them..."

Iceman continues his quest toward the West Coast and discovers something new about his powers. But is it enough to save his life from a friend turned foe? Plus stories featuring Colossus and a mysterious Young X-Man.
48 PGS./Rated T+ …$3.99

I hope we get at least 2 explorations of "New" X-Men....in Divided We Stand we had who...Anole in one, and Surge in another? We really need to know what's going on with Elixir and Mercury and Wither. These are three fabulous underrated characters with so much potential, I really hope they don't fall into limbo (well, as far as I'm concerned, Wither is in limbo). The same can be said about Anole and Surge, hopefully their stories continue.

As long as they stay far away from Young X-Men....which is bloody horrible. What were they thinking? Anyways, with the new SF location being a safe-haven for all mutants, there's no reason that Anole, Surge, Hellion, Wither, Dust, Mercury, and Elixer shouldn't join Pixie and take a trip!

Divided We Stand also featured Hellion and Gentle. Prodigy, Dust and Mercury are with the X-men as seen in Secret Invasion: X-men, fighting the skrulls in San Fransisco. As for Elixer, he's been appearing in X-force [blackout] as will Wither soon[/blackout]. Anole is set to join Young X-men cast after this first arc. All the New X-men you mentioned have been seen and are accounted for

Colossus' head...is too small compared to the rest of his body.
