Haha thats funny, broodish angst is that why we had crappy episodes like the Christmas Morlock one and the Jubilee fairytale stuff.Even if this show lasted a 100 ep you won't find crappy episodes like that on this show. This is by far the most mature show Marvel has done
There's no forgiving that Morlock Christmas one, but Jubilee's Fairy Tale Theater was an adaptation of a Kitty Pryde story, but with Jubilee instead.
There has yet to be a completely fantastic X-Men series. 90s comes close but is marred by consistently bad animation, some poor vocal work and lazy writing. Seriously, if I had a dollar for every time Jean tried to do something with her powers, got overwhelmed yelled out "SCOTT!" then fainted, I would be a millionaire. And Prof. X looked and sounded a little drag queen-ish. But it treated characters like Magneto in a very multidimensional way, and didn't focus solely on say Wolverine throughout its run. It gave equal(ish) time to every member. And it didn't pander to a child audience.
X-Men Evolution took too long to get interesting. And I hated the general concept. Some really awful voice actors, but consistently well done animation. For me, it was too safe, bland and kid friendly. So, there you have it.
And Wolverine and the X-Men shared similar flaws and positives as the other two. Beautiful animation, some great voice work, but storylines that were all over the place. I'm with everyone else on the "WTF? Ninjas?" thing. And why do we have to focus so much on Wolverine lately?

I get it, the movie's made him a big icon with the general audience, but I've never really cared for him. Storm, Colossus, Beast, Kitty Pryde and Forge kinda got the shaft on this one, and they're some of my favorite characters. But Marrow, another one I really enjoy, was really well-done. And so was Emma, a character I have a love-hate thing with.
I own the entire 90s run on DVD, and I've pondered getting WATX, but I don't know. I would have loved to have seen a second season and see if many of these problems would have gotten smoothed out or tweaked. Who knows.
