It wouldn't be any more unrealistic than Banner transforming into green giant, just because he was exposed to gamma radiation. The transformation would simply be an unexpected side-effect from the serum. And to not make it too goofy looking, they should simply downplay the Goblin characteristics.

Like I said earlier, if you want a mask that looks like a clasic Goblin and not another repeat of Raimi's version, prosthetics will come into play anyway.
This isn't the Hulk. I much prefer Spider-Man over the Hulk. Bruce Banner turning into the Hulk because of gamma radiation is stupid to me. That is why I don't like the Hulk. A giant monster running around saying Hulk SMASH just doesn't tickle the pickle for me. It doesn't help that the CGI to make the Hulk look real doesn't really work. He still looks extremely fake and unrealistic.

I know prosthetics will come into play concerning a mask but with a transformation, you are trying to make it look real and not fake or looking like a mask...because then what would be the point of it?

HG there looks good, way better than GG. I think if you combined those two, you could make a great looking costume.

- Use HG's tattered cap and hood...no pointy beanie coming off to make them look like a Harry Potter Wizard gone bad. Of course change the color to a DARK purple.

- Use a mask. I don't want a stiff helmet again like SM1, but I think a synthetic latex mask or even one that allows his eyes and mouth to be seen would work.

- Enhance the look with some armor.

- Make the glider bad ***. SM1 had an awesome glider...no comic crap gliders that look like a potato gun.

- Give the man some clothing. His one-sie is stupid looking. Bare arms and gloves are fine, but please...no thongs with bare legs and leather boots. It is like they gave them sexy women's clothes.

I keep thinking about the Goblin's appearance on "Amazing Friends".

If we are going for a costumed goblin, it needs to be the Ramos/Dodson revision, seen in Mark Millar's Marvel knights Spider-Man.

While I personally have no problem with Ultimate Green Goblin, as I am a huge fan of Ultimate Spidey, I can fully appreciate that it isn't what most people think of when they hear green goblin.

However, what about some sort of happy medium? Maybe a Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde type situation, where the goblin serum does physically transform norman, but not into a big hulking monster. It makes him a bit stronger, creepier, uglier, maybe a freaky skin texture thing going on. It turns him a sickly shade of dark green. Picture some of the creatures in the Underworld films, namely the half breed and the old vampires, only with a more visually goblin-esque flair (and green instead of blue), maybe even with some cues from his 616 mask for his facial details.

So Norman physically transforms, but he would still be in complete control of his faculties. He'd be able to talk with full speech (with maybe a cool effect to his voice), and he'd be fully aware of what he was doing both as Norman and as the Goblin.

On top of that, he would still employ the use of a glider (none of the Ultimate super-hopping), pumpkin bombs (That scream on impact! That was an awesome idea from Spectacular Spider-Man) and he would have an outfit he wore. I'm envisioning something like the hobgoblin's tattered hooded get-up in very dark green. Or, a more traditional Goblin costume, but in terms of the aforementioned Ramos/Dodson look. I would substitute the purple cap for a crazy oldschool-ish flight cap though. Gives kind of a demented evil pilot feel that sems nifty. Lots of dark colors for the costume. Purple needs to stay far, FAR away from the suit.

How about that? It's sort of a mid point and allows for the classic Goblin look without the weirdness of having some sort of manufactured mask or trying to explain norman giving himself a pro make-up job.

Sorry, but i do not see marc webb thinking about this, i think that is not the director adequate and that the sony hired him only to introduce hand in this film and give orders (thing that Sam, by very crazy that it would not be left) overcome spider-man 2 will be quite an achievement.

If they decide to go more techy-looking, I want something like this

Goblin original

Raimi wanted to use this design, but had to tone it down due to budget restraints. It is a tad busy, but I love the harshness of it. The sharp claws, the arm spikes, and I also like that the mask looks (at least from this picture) to be of the kind that would move with the actors face instead of a stationary one like what they went with in SM1.

If not, I wouldn't mind something that looks similar to the Ultimate Goblin, yet slimmed down. Also, I would want it to be a costume, but with a mask that would move with the actors face. I wouldn't mind if if they went with the cloaked looked either. I've always liked that.

I agree that they should take some elements from Hobgoblin. I always thought a hood would look better then the little hat GG wears.

let's also not forget about the goblin, they don't wanna terrify the kiddies....

I say scare the beegeebers out of the little kiddos. :woot:

Some of those cosutumes are great. I DEFINITELY hope IF, or I should say WHEN, we get the Goblin Legacy in the Reboot, Webb shows he got the chomps to NOT cater to the kid-friendly market.

IF they DO cater.. this crap of darker, more realistic.. was a LOAD. Period.

Yea man Goblin should be like Joker. He should terrify people. In fact he should be worse than Joker. Coz no matter how terrible Joker is people still like him, he's a villain you love to hate. Goblin IMO should be completely despicable.

Amen Brother.

That poll should be closed now, I agree with Cyber Dragon, is this a f-in JOKE?!? Costume all the way! And in the last picture which was posted by JackIvy, I think is a great example of how the Goblin's costume should look like! It has a creepy tent too and it's good, but who knows how far they are allowed to go because of the friggin' kiddiez!

I agree that the Goblin should be despicable. Plus, it would bring much satisfaction when Spidey kicks the ass of such an evil character.

Make Norman Osborn a horrible human being as well. None of that "split-personality" nonsense. Show his ruthlessness as a businessman and his twisted brand of parenting via Harry.

Man, totally agree with others, I love some of these costume looks.

HOW they do the Goblin is going to tell us just how seriously they are taking this reboot when it comes to a darker, more realistic approach.

WE WILL BE WATCHING.. SONY! :cwink:

Osbourne should wear a silicone Goblin mask. That way the mask behaves like a 2d skin.

Check out this video of a silicone Freddy Krueger mask.

You guys think that might work?

Wow, I think that's actually a pretty cool idea.

Here's a better example of a silicone mask...

And it's even a Goblin...

I was actually unsure how a Goblin mask would possibly work, but a mask like that would be absolutely perfect.

Although I prefer the costume, I think this movie should use a transformation Goblin. Getting the costume again would just be more of the same. This franchise should separate itself completely from Raimi's.

This is all kinds of win.

I would love that silicone mask. I would love to see them battle towards the end and the Goblin mask gets torn and Spidey realizes that it is Norman and then Norman has that evil look on his face and they continue to fight.

who ever the 16 are who said physical transformation, seriously what the hell are you thinking

he didn't go through a physical transformation to look like a Goblin in the comics did he? i was always under the impression that it was a latex costume and mask?

In Ultimate Spider-Man he underwent a physical transformation.
