That doesn't prevent him from caring. Loki isn't just a mustache twirling villain, most of his hate actually comes from love and his insecurities. He loves both Odin and Thor, yet he also hates them because he desperately seeks confirmation from the former and wants to be seen like the latter.

We've heard Hiddleston talk about that aspect of his portrayal as well, so it's the intended reasoning.

He still tried to kill him, and by our standards, he is still a sick, bad person. Quite borderline with certain antisocial features actually. Giving him depth and trauma, and a marder complex doesn't make him less evil..just humanizes him. Still love the character..but some people missunderstand his love, and family issues as a missunderstood character, who ism't evil. He is. But he is still very much a scheming, evil villain. He just is a villain with realistic psychodynamics

Saying he didn't try very hard to kill Thor for reelz isn't the same as saying he's an awesome guy you want to, like, eat wings with... Thor left himself wide open to be killed. If Loki really wanted him dead, he'd be dead. And if he wanted Odin dead (based on where Odin seems to be) he'd be dead too.

I know what you mean and that always concerns me but thankfully my early screenings have been great in the past.

Loki actually did kill Thor, in Thor, when he ordered the Destroyer to kill his depowered and vulnerable brother. Thor is only alive because Odin revived him. That qualified as trying very hard to kill Thor for reelz since Loki succeeded.
