Thor: Ragnarok The Official News and Speculation Thread - Part 3

yeah i'm sure that's true, look at Thor's little Faux-Hawk, clearly Hemsworth-inspired
I just hope he doesn't lose the arm, or his worthiness, in the MCU

I don't think they can really pull off Thor losing his arm, even if old Thor having the Destroyer's arm was a really cool touch. We have so few movies this far that it would just end up feeling like God-Bucky.

Actually just saw Hunt for Wilderpeople a few weeks back. The movie is probably the best film I've seen this year (better than CW perhaps, but certainly not better than the 4K version of Ran I just saw). My faith for the film just went way up with Taika at the helm. The film is so genuine and charming, I hope that Taika will bring the same charm to it that Branagh did in the first film.

Taika can do really great humor, very Edgar Wright-esque humor. I hope they bring some of that in the film instead to spruce up the humor like Shane Black did with Iron Man 3. (Because we can have different kinds of humor in the MCU! From Whedon to Black to now Taika!) The set pics look epic, so I hope Taika also brings the heat with the action as well.

While Asgardians and such are aliens in the MCU I do wonder; It has never been SAID that Asgard and Earth, Jotenheim, etc all exist on the same physical plane. In theory, if they CHOOSE to, Asgardians can still be an advanced alien race from a different dimension/plane of existence. Perhaps Asgardians can come from a part of the universe where matter is denser, which could explain why Asgardians seem so impressively durable, by the MCU standards.

Even if they are not advanced inter-dimensional aliens, on MCU Earth, Norse Mythology still exists and in the mythology, Thor and his race of aliens are "Gods".

This all being said, I hope this film has that epic feel, showing large scale events and characterization which early man may have misinterpreted as Gods. Thor hasn't really had that "Godly" feel since Thor 1. With all these larger than life characters, and what appears to be at stake, I think there may be a chance this ends up being the Thor film us die hards have been waiting for.

I've had the same thoughts recently. They haven't talked about dimensions, just wormholes and aliens.

It's my assumption were on the same plain.
If you go back to Thor 1 and in the ending Credits, you'll see the mythical Yggdrasil, it's formed by the gasses in space through the Universe.

Yea, I do remember that part. But I find that so...mundane. Extradimensional is extraordinary

Yeah but BILLIONS of galaxies are within Yggdrasil How is it mundane?

I know its a weird way to put it, but then they're "just aliens" and there are god knows how many moves on that subject.

I mean, who's to say in each Branch of Yggdrasil the laws of Physics are very much different than what's in our Branch of Yggdrasil?

lol yeah but like they keep saying in the Thor movies, they aren't gods, just beings that get VERY OLD lol
I'm STILL hoping that in some way the infinity stones have some bearing on Ragnarok. For example, let's say with every Ragnarok age, there's a being like Thanos that destroys all there is with the Gauntlet. Maybe last Ragnarok WAS Surtur!

It's still the same thing though. Whether it's a being from another dimension or a being from another planet in this dimension, neither of them are from Earth and so are categorically aliens in both cases.

1. The new logo is weird looking. Way too retro. Feels like it downgrades the film from less of a "Fall of Asgard" level to a "Buddy Road Trip" like the director suggested a while back. And I'm not a fan. Will still see tho.

2. Gladiator Hulk eh? I'm assuming Skurge might be 1 of the challenges Hulk and/or Thor faces. Grandmaster will be the one behind it all.

3. Loki, I'm assuming he is possesed by Surtur and starts Ragnarok which begins tearing apart Asgard. Thor goes to stop Loki but Thor is summoned mid battle by "The Grandmaster" to compete with Hulk in the Gladiator matches. Thor pleads with Grandmaster telling him his world is in danger, and the Grandmaster promises to let him and the Hulk go if they win his game. Thus the film basically becomes a fight for not only their lives, but Asgard as well.

3. Hela? I'm gonna go out on a limb and say her role will be small but effective. Perhaps Thor and Hulk are "killed" in a gladiator match and Hela tries to trick them into thinking they truly are dead, so they'll give up their souls, when really their just knocked out or got swallowed by some giant monster. But they realize it's only an illusion and wake up escaping Hela's grasp. Defeating the final enemy they are then allowed to go home by the Grandmaster.

4. I'm guessin after they defeat the monster. They go back to the remains of Asgard and Thor is pissed at Loki. Hulk and Thor fight Surtur possessed Loki and Hulk is beat down and reverts to Banner. Thor trying to protect Banner also is beat down, but then goes into warriors madness and literally beats Surtur out of Loki nearly killing him. But decides he doesn't want to loose control.

I'm thinking Surtur could in the finale come out forreal and Thor has no energy to battle. But Odin returns and helps to beat him back. In a final actual battle. Either that or if you wanna special flare. Odin's body is to old to battle Surtur and he gives the Odin force to Thor. To which Thor uses to beat back the actual Surtur.

. 5Right before Odin dies from giving up the Odin Force, which was partially helping keep him alive in addition to his Asgaurdian expanded life rate. He crowns Thor the new king and Thor promises to do his father justice. Loki is locked away once more as Ragnarok was never truly his fault, as he was possessed. But he also warns Thor he will need to help his Earth friends, something greater than Surtur himself is brewing.

I'm guessing he decides to leave Sif in charge while he goes to warn the Avengers of their impending doom.

No doubt. They haven't maxed out this franchise enough to warrant such a decision.

I'm hoping Valkarie is also one of the Gladiator Match opponents. It could be a Beta Ray Bill v Hulk type thing. Except with Valkaryie...althought the feminists would have a mental nuclear meltdown if Hulk beat down Valkaryie like he did Beta. And the critics would claim pandering if Valkaryie beat down Hulk like that. And if it was a tie it'd feel artificial. Whats the lesser of these evils

I don't think Valkyrie is gonna be fighting the Hulk.

Wonder if there'll be an in-story reason for why Thor hasn't found anything.

I agree. Having them be extradimensional, interdimensional, however we word it doesn't necessarily eliminate them as aliens. They can still be aliens, just, from a different part of the universe where matter may be more dense

That's totally fair. Then what would make the laws of physics different on Asgard than on Earth? A question like that certainly can be considered an unknown which adds to the mystery.

Surtur is physically a character, it's basically confirmed. Also, Hela is the main villain. Not Loki, not Surtur. This has been confirmed

Damn. Well that debunks every theory I've had. :/

Anyone else wanna take a shot at the possible plot?

You don't cast Cate Blanchett in a villain role and have it be a small role....

Seriously, it amuses me when people think otherwise. She's Cate Blanchett! Arguably the most respected actress in modern Hollywood, perhaps after Meryl Streep. Hela was the first character mentioned in the Marvel press release where she was actually described as being the 'mysterious and powerful new villain', and she was the subject of the first (and so far only) concept art that was widely released, facing off against Odin's entire army of Einherjar single handed no less! What about that says small role?

I'd just like to say that Taika Waititi's twitter account is the best thing ever, he can troll people like nobody's business. It cracks me up that fanboys and girls still try to ask him serious questions thinking that they're going to get a serious response.

sarah (@tomxhiddleston)
@TaikaWaititi can you please tease one line of dialogue from Thor: Ragnarok?

Taika Waititi Retweeted sarah
"Woah, Thor just slaughtered Stark, Captain USA, Ant-person, Witch-Lady, Arrow-Guy, Bird-man, & weird Crimson-Dude".

:funny:

My theory: Hela shows up and takes over Asgard after it is revealed that Odin is no longer there. Thor and Hulk travel the cosmos looking for Odin before Surtur is released since he is the only one who can stop Hela, Surtur, the Fenrir Wolf, etc. They end up competing in feats of strength for the amusement of the Grandmaster. Eventually, Odin is rescued and there is an epic battle for the survival of Asgard itself.
