First Thor: Ragnarok synopsis released by Disney

Thor-Ragnarok-Synopsis.jpg

unfortunately, this sounds like a fan fiction to me...They try to forcefully combine two storylines from the comic books as fanservice.

I'm very much looking forward to the Ragnarok aspect of the plot. But I do not care about this silly PLANET HULK aspect which will not capture anything which made the storyline so compelling in the comic books...

Waititi reacts to this news:

Finally! I've been waiting to find out this information for ages.
This man, I swear. :funny:

How can anyone read this synopsis and not get hyped for the movie? It's pure comic book craziness. It sure sounds more exciting than "Spider-Man takes on the Vulture". :o

I can't wait! I like the new photo too, because arms...

So Hela/Loki imprisons Thor in Skaar. I'm guessing they somehow find a way of separating him from the hammer... mjolnir either gets destroyed (unlikely), or damaged, or somehow Thor becomes unworthy. So after he fights in the gladiatorial arena and finally faces Hulk, they probably escape together and "get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok". In Asgard they will face Hela, Skurge, Surtur and Fenris...

* Thor without his hammer doesn't put me off that much because i'm 100% sure he gets it back by the end in some epic form to finally put an end to Ragnarok. It will be awesome to see Thor battle with other weapons and see how badass he really is without mjolnir.

One thing that is very interesting too is how Thor will be able to face Hulk but without his hammer. We already had a glimpse of that in Avengers and it went one way, how it was suppose to be... Thor can tank hits from the Hulk and just that shows how strong he really is, but without mjolnir he ends up being a easy target. Interested to see how they make this fight awesome and compelling.

Everything that comes out for Thor Ragnarok just makes this movie sounds better. The hype is alive!

I thought Skurge was going to be in the arena too. I don't want Thor and Hulk to just be fighting each other. They should face off against at least few opponents.

What if Hela is combined with Enchantress? Maybe she assumes a different form who deceives Thor into sleeping with her. Then she reveals her true form. The act of mating with Hela makes Thor unworthy and he loses the ability to wield the hammer.

But doesn't Odin have the authority to say who is worthy or unworthy to wield it? So couldn't Loki (in disguise as Odin) simply deem Thor unworthy and he would lose the right to wield it?

I doubt that Disney would make a movie where a woman tricks her uncle to sleep with her. :D

Loki may currently look like Odin but he probably doesn't wield odinforce.

Karl Urban said in an interview that a lot of his scenes are with Cate Blanchett so that indicates that Skurge will be Hela's devoted lackey, like he is to Amora in the comics. He's probably just traded out his subservience to one green outfitted villainess for another. :woot:

I can definitely see Hela taking on some of Amora's characteristics (like Skurge being her besotted muscle as mentioned above), but like AlluAllu said, I highly doubt Marvel/Disney would have Thor becoming unworthy by sleeping with the evil villainess in their family friendly movie. :woot: I don't think Thor will be deemed unworthy in Ragnarok, I simply think Hela will find a way of separating him from Mjolnir. Maybe she casts a powerful spell around Mjolnir to temporarily de-power it or something like that.

As an interesting side-note, Thor actually did sleep with Hela in the ultimate universe (where Hela isn't Loki's daughter), to save Valkyrie. They ended up having a son together (Modi) who turned evil and served Hydra so Thor had to kill him and Hela threw the mother of all hissy fits. :woot:

Are we sure Hela is Loki's niece in the MCU? Cate Blanchett is older than Tom Hiddleston, and if anything, looks more like his aunt.

Anyway, I don't know if sleeping with Hela would hinder Thor's ability to lift his hammer.

Well incest or not, Thor being raped and then punished for it is very high on the list of Things I'd Rather Never See in a Thor Movie.

Hela is actually Loki's daughter in the original mythology, not his niece. In the comics it's a little (or a lot) more complex. She was originally his daughter but then her back story was re-written by Kieron Gillan. Loki didn't father her in the traditional sense, Kid Loki 'created' her by somehow writing her into existence as his 'ideal friend' Leah, but then he somehow got fully grown Hela to send Leah far back in time to save her from his evil side (King Loki) and that Leah grew up to become Hela. It's massively confusing, and I highly doubt any of it will end up in the MCU. :funny: Loki and Hela basically have a really long and weird relationship (which I love) in the comics, I really hope they find some way of representing and honoring that in the MCU without the hugely complex back story.

A lot of the Ultimate Marvel storylines are really f-ed up and should never end up in any MCU movie tbh.

Sorry, I meant Thor's niece, Loki's daughter. Cate looks old enough to be Hemsworth's aunt and Hiddleston's mother.

But doesn't Odin have the authority to say who is worthy or unworthy to wield it? So couldn't Loki (in disguise as Odin) simply deem Thor unworthy and he would lose the right to wield it?

Nothing in the synopsis says he's unworthy. It says he's separated from his hammer. That'd be consistent with the rumor that Hela destroys Mjonir in the first act.

So there's going to be Part Two of Team Thor that will appear on the DVD/Blu Ray release of Dr. Strange.

Are we sure Hela is Loki's niece in the MCU? Cate Blanchett is older than Tom Hiddleston, and if anything, looks more like his aunt.

Good point. I wish that they will retain that from comics and mythology. Perhaps the age could be explained in Hela's backstory. Maybe Hela's mother is mortal and as the result Hela is somewhere in the middle when it comes to aging.

It's always fun when they strip heroes of their powers because it adds an air of unpredictability to proceedings. It's why stories where Superman is drained of his powers via kryptonite are interesting: you genuinely don't know how the heroes will prevail, even though you know that somehow they will.

So there's going to be Part Two of Team Thor that will appear on the DVD/Blu Ray release of Dr. Strange.

Yes! Team Thor for life, I can't wait to see Darryl again. :woot: Thor clearly needs him in order to stay in contact with Stark and Rogers via those handy electronic letters. Ravens take too long. :cwink:

I think it would be great if Rene Russo had a surprise little cameo in Ragnarok. With Hela's ability to create illusions she could make herself appear as Frigga briefly to really screw with Thor and Loki's heads, that would be interesting.

Maybe she'll appear as Jane Foster. :o

Honestly this may just be my most anticipated superhero movie of 2017, as the idea of Thor and Hulk travelling through the realms together is fascinating.

I really hope we see Hulk join Loki, Thor and Odin at the end and combat Surtur together with them!

We'll see. Still hoping the Planet Hulk crap doesn't take too much time.

I'm cool with mjolnir being destroyed. How does it get fixed for the finale though?

Perhaps it's just taken away from Thor

Will Thor feel like less of a man with his hammer destroyed? Or will this movie show that it's not the hammer that makes the man but the man that makes the hammer?

I'm thinking Mjolnir is held from Thor. Even so, Doc Strange HAS mended Mjolnir in the comics. I can see Strange appearing a couple time, just not the entire time WITH Thor and Hulk

I understand that it isn't at all likely, but I would like to see Mjolnir destroyed permamently. MCU has advantage over 616 comics in that mcu doesn't need to uphold status quo. The actors age and so do the characters (for the most part). We may not see Thor again after Avengers 4. Imo it would be very cool if something important like this would change.

What if Thor loses his hammer, wears a different type of helmet, ditches his cape and Asgardian uniform and takes up formula one racing instead? This would be very cool for such an important change since there's no need to maintain the status quo. He could race against Baron Zemo.
