Thor: Ragnarok The Official News and Speculation Thread - Part 5

My position is definitely better than you or anyone else speculating that she is death given Marvel's toning down of the supernatural elements. This happened in Strange where magic was basically Kung-fu and with Asgardians who are basically super-powered aliens. It's also supported by the fact that no website reliable or not has even hinted of the possibility of death being in there. of course there are many things that we don't know yet but very few MCU villains surive their first movie. I'm going by precedent here which is fare better than your wishful thinking.

When a player with 40% on free throws goes to the line and i say he is going to miss it based on his past samples and you say he is going to make 2/2 because YOU WANT HIM TO who is the most unreliable?

Poster 1: *Makes a perfectly plausible speculative post about what could possibly happen in an upcoming movie using evidence to back up that speculation*

Reasonable, mature response to that post: I personally don't agree, but hey who knows? We'll have to wait and see who's right.

Typical GeckoMoria response to that post: No. You're wrong. I unequivocally know that you're wrong even though in reality I don't really because I actually don't know any more than you. But still, you're wrong because I said so. And I'm going to let you know how wrong you are at every available opportunity.

For goodness sake, it's like trying to hold a conversation with a petulant child. For the 50th time, I'm not saying I'm right. I'm posting my opinion and speculating what's going to happen based on the long long history of Marvel changing things up in the comics to reflect what's happening in the movies. It's hardly like it's just a few people on this forum either, if you look around on social media, e.t.c there are loads of comics and MCU fans who are not only speculating but are utterly convinced of the same thing. You act like this is all based on nothing and it's smoke without fire which is blatantly untrue.

And I'm not even going to justify that 'magic is basically kung-fu' nonsense, it's like you haven't even seen Doctor Strange at all. I'm not going to argue with you anymore about this bud, because quite frankly it's becoming pretty tiresome. If I'm wrong, what the hey? I'll be disappointed but I'll get over it. Let's just wait and see what happens, yeah?

I'm no more or less adamant thaan you and i have about the same right to express my opinion on the matter. Nowhere i said i believe 100% she won't be Death. My prediction is that she won't be.

Your prediction is that she is. I'm not any more dogmatic than you are so don't use that as excuse. The reality is you don't like someone "raining on your parade" since as a fan you have subconsciously convinced yoursself that she is and you are going to mock every other opinion.

No, we don't like people being condescending and arrogant, which is what you're being. And yes, you ARE being more "dogmatic."

And yes, LOTS of people have speculated on the "Hela might be MCU's Death" idea, both here and elsewhere. It's hardly a fringe "out there" idea actually.

Express your opinion all you want, but then don't be surprised if other people respond/call you out on it, it's that simple.

When a player with 40% on free throws goes to the line and i say he is going to miss it based on his past samples and you say he is going to make 2/2 because YOU WANT HIM TO who is the most unreliable?
I find myself agreeing..logic says the safest guess is that she's Hela, only. While it is possible, there is nothing to indicate that she is also death, no factual or written reason for that rumor to start as well

Actually, if you want to talk statistics and evidence, then that'd lean to there being likelihood of the rumor being true. Marvel has a long-storied history of changing elements in the comic books to better match up with the movies. If I had to list them all I'd be here all day, so a brief selection:

* They gave Tony an arc reactor in the comics because of the first Iron Man movie.
* Nick Fury was retconned to have a black son also named Nick Fury who conveniently lost an eye and looked a heck of a lot like Sam Jackson in order to have a Fury closer to the one audiences knew from the film.
* Hawkeye was redesigned to wear black spy gear like his movie counterpart.
* In the months leading up to the Avengers movie, Marvel launched a new series starring those six heroes.
* The Guardians got relaunched in the first place because of their upcoming movie (after having been cancelled several years earlier due to low sales). Partway into the new series, Star-Lord was redesigned to wear a red trenchcoat like Chris Pratt and has since been written as a sarcastic jokester (Star-Lord was originally more of a grizzled military veteran-type character).
* Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver were retconned into not being mutants or Magneto's children so they would be closer to their counterparts in Age of Ultron.
* Elektra now wears the exact same costume she has in the Netflix show.
* Daisy Johnson was retconned into being an Inhuman to match up with Agents of SHIELD, and Mockingbird also started dating Lance Hunter (a character she's never had any interaction with in the comics before) because they're exes on the show.
* The Collector was redesigned from being a skeletal-faced freaky looking dude into a more foppish and natural-looking person so that he'd resemble Benicio Del Toro's portrayal of him in the movies.
* Rhodey started wearing the Iron Patriot suit because of Iron Man 3.
* The Chitauri were introduced into the mainstream canon and look exactly like their movie counterparts.
* The country of Sokovia now exists in the comics and is featured in the current Captain America series.
* Misty Knight has been redesigned to look like she does in the Luke Cage TV series.
* Groot is currently involved in a storyline where he's been reduced to a smaller size to match up with the "Baby Groot" character from Guardians Vol. 2.
* If we go back even further before the MCU was a thing, you had Spider-Man getting organic web-shooters because of the Sam Raimi films, Bullseye switching to black leather street clothes because of the Daredevil movie, the X-Men ditching their spandex and masks for more practical clothes because of the X-Men movies, and even Cyclops and Jean Grey getting married in the comics during the 90's because of the X-Men animated series airing at the time.

Phew. That was longer than I thought. Anyway, case in point: Marvel has a huge habit of creating story developments in the source material to make them seem closer to whatever the popular media adaptation of their characters is relevant right now. This same series with the Hela development? Yeah, it also just redesigned Thor so that he now looks like he does in Ragnarok.

So you can not like the theory and disagree, sure. But to say there is literally no evidence for it being true is a stretch, since, as I just demonstrated, big developments in the comics are often indicative of what's going on in the adaptations. Hey, maybe it's a huge coincidence that Hela and Thanos are now lovers during the exact period where it's being rumored that'll be a plot point in Infinity War. But history has indicated that betting on it being more than a mere coincidence certainly ain't without precedent.

They also gave Blade vampire powers but not their weaknesses

Been that way since that poster arrived. They never take a day off.

Yep, Hugo Weaving, Tim Roth, Robert Redford, Christopher Eccleston, Jeff Bridges, Mickey Rourke, Sam Rockwell, Guy Pearce - all one-off appearances.

since the Justice League first trailer is coming up Saturday, i suppose Marvel will counter attack with its first trailer for Thor Ragnarok

My comments were before i saw the Unworthy twist. It does make the possibility more likely as you have explained with your examples. We will see. I hope it is true but i won't shocked if it's not.

I gotta say i would love to see Thor with the Uru metal arm. I think it looks badass.
If he lost the arm on a massive fight agains Surtur, Hela or some other foe it would only make him look even more of a warrior...

Isn't Justice League much father along than Ragnarok? They've had much more lead time to have the CGI and special effects ready.

I assumed that's why all of the pictures in the EW article were practical shots and nothing showing any CGI-intensive characters like the Hulk.

Thor Ragnarok wrapped ont the 27th of October. The movie will come out on the 3rd of November.
Justice League wrapped on the 15th of October. The movie will come out on the 16th of November.

WB releases the second trailer for JL now on the 25th of March.
I bet Marvel will soon release the first trailer for TR... My bet is still the 20th of April.

Technically Rockwell did appear again, though not in a theatrical release.

I am aware. But it just became revealed that Thanos is partnered with Hela in the comics, literally just came out. As for there being similarities between comics and movies, I'd say it's a marketing technique...selling to the same audience, ideally. It was a popular theory.

But with Hela being involved with Thanos (and Thanos cheating on himself), the Hela thing seems more likely.

Have you guys read Unworthy Thor 5 yet?

Thanos and Hela DO get involved. She gets Thanos to help get Hel back, BUT we don't SEE that yet

As I didn't see this lol But yes just not HOW much they ARE involved yet

I'm aware of that. Marvel often does these in advance when they know what's going to happen or at least have a vague idea of what's going on in the movies, hence them giving Thor the same haircut before that was officially revealed either. They also just recently did the Baby Groot thing before that movie was out too.

A certain COUPLE in Unworthy Thor 5 :D

I hear people are upset that there's going to be too much humor in the movie. I don't mind if it has humor. My one main complaint of TDW was the over-reliance on the human characters.

Shouldn't be a big problem since Thor's off planet for most if not ALL the film lol

since the Justice League first trailer is coming up Saturday, i suppose Marvel will counter attack with its first trailer for Thor Ragnarok

Possibly, though I'm not sure Marvel takes that much notice of what DC are up to.

It's *possible* but it would still be pretty darn early compared to their usual average time frame.

*IF* anything MCU related is released as a 'counter' to the Justice League trailer release, I'd lean more towards the next Spider-Man: Homecoming trailer dropping (we're about due for it - assuming Sony is taking advice from Marvel on how to market S:H)

Marvel doesn't follow any pattern and they definitely don't need to engage in any back and forths. They are doing thier things and they have a timetable. BvS had released 2 trailers before CW had even one in the Internet.

Marvel doesn't care what WB is doing.
