Tim Burton's Dark Shadows - Part 2

Two trailers are the norm. That the first trailer took so long to come out is the problem. We know they were testing at least a few different trailers so it isn't like they are rushing another one out.

Where has the downright negative reaction been? I haven't seen it outside of imdb from people who didn't want this film in the first place.

Again, it's the Internet and thus skewed. But online, I saw the negative reactions that are all over imdb as well, as well as people posting about the movie on EW.com and deadline.com. It was notable enough that the writer had to come out and do some damage control, so I think there has been a noticeable mixed reaction as opposed to overwhemling fan hype for other movies this summer.

The reaction has been negative. The only positives are mostly from people who are fans of TB so they will love it regardless. I lean towards the negative but Ill wait for a second trailer to see what the real tone of the movie is.

The trailer got some laughs from the crowd when we saw the trailer for this (with The Hunger Games) today. My friend who watched the series commented though how surprised she was that it was a "comedy".

Perhaps with a little darker tone... to offset some of the mixed reaction?

That would be wise at this point. Lately, I've been seeing many ads for American Reunion and I've noticed that there's two different TV ads. One were they focus on the reunion itself, meaning more nostalgic and heart-warming stuff. And another that centers on the more raunchy aspect of the film with Stiffler as the focal point.

So, maybe WB has taken a few notes from that marketing effort. We already have a funny trailer with several comedic TV spots. Maybe now we can get one that's more serious and focuses on the gothic/vampire angle. Maybe even a trailer/TV spot with some Danny Elfman music. I've noticed that trailer's for Burton's movies always work better with that Elfman touch. I mean, remember the Big Fish trailer:

I'm not a fan of the original and I think this looks hilarious. I was actually bored of Tim Burton before I saw this.

i saw a sneak peak of this film.

i can say the editing of this version was pretty awful, they focused more on Depp's footage and characters that seemed to be the main focus disappeared, things seemed out of place, didn't make sense or were unbelievable in terms of characters falling in love.

my friend told me a lot about the original series. the series may have been cheesy but it was shot live he was telling me. And that Barnabus didn't show up till the show was nearly cancelled which made the show even more popular.

Everything that he told me that seemed pretty Great was all changed in the film.

I feel like the writer of the film didn't even watch the show. And if Depp was such a huge fan why would he just cave in and do what Burton wants? He seemed to sleepwalk through the role with out staying true to the character of the show.

They cut out a heck of a lot of character qualities and things they did in the show.

to me they watered it down into a bland incoherent mess. But that was just the edit I sat through.

the characters, sets costumes all look great but I feel like Burton is becoming more of a designer than director.

its like his passed films had soo much character that you knew who the characters were, there was a solid story, character development and build ups setups all that in passed films. It seems like he lost that along the way.

i think the studio is really worried about this film from the questionare that was handed out. they don't know what kind of film it should be and it showed in this edit.

whoever he is working with that does the screenplays for his films are awful.

It's Seth Grahame-Smith, that also wrote Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and Abe Lincoln: Vamp Hunter. And the now cancelled RJ Berger show.

Wish Josette's Lullaby (one of the three semi-famous melodies from the show along with the main theme Quentin's Lullaby) was in there.

But yeah, there are very clear spoilers to this thing.

By now I expect that whenever Burton adapts something, he'll f**k the source material up. Thankfully 1)I haven't watched the original show and 2)the trailer makes me interested in Burton for the first time in many, many years.

You can listen to some of the score now... be careful of spoilers:

I only listened to some of the first few tracks, but I like what I hear. Very dark and distinct.

According to that same site, there's gonna be a song soundtrack as well. Between Danny's score and the songs, this is gonna be wall-to-wall music. But anyway, yeah, I listened to a few tracks from Danny's score. VERY dark. So, haters can calm down. The movie won't be all laughs.

LOVE the music. Danny Elfman rarely ever disappoints me, and this is much darker than what I was expecting. I can't wait till they release the whole score.

I love the sound of "Deadly Handshake".

I love the sound of "Deadly Handshake".

I'm curious to see what that scene is all about. I noticed that Hypno Music is, more or less, the same thing so I imagine that Barnabas messes with some people's minds.

My wife and I watched the original show in the old days...I have several DVDs of the movies made after the series ended and of the movies made from footage of the series.

We saw the trailer for this over the weekend.....son, I am disappoint.

It may turn out to be a funny movie....but when they do a remake of something scary, eerie, spooky, bloody, and gothic.....and make it Austin Powers becomes a vampire.....I will not reward them with my money for doing that.

When I first saw this trailer the first thing I thought was Beetlejuice.....It looks okay, but most likely wont see it in theatres.

I can't see the score being used in a comedy movie. I'm sticking with the trailer misleading itself as a comedy.

I have been saying the trailer Is misleading.Pay attention to what people associated with the film have been saying. They have called dark Shadows part Horror Film part
Comedy part romance part soap opera part Action.HBC herself said this would be hard to
sell.Obviously If this was just a comedy they wouldn't have that problem. This wouldn't be first time a Tim Burton film trailer was misleading.

I am pretty sure it is going to be like Beetlejuice and Edward Scissorhands.

I'm in the camp that feels like the movie is a lot darker than the trailer lets on. Even if it was a full blown comedy, I'd still probably see it, but I wouldn't feel alienated about that because I was never a fan of the show, nor have I ever seen an episode of it. Hell, I had never even heard of the show before this film was announced. I'm just hoping we get something in the same vein as Beetlejuice. Or even Sleepy Hollow. Something that harkens back to old school Burton.

The final film when you compare It to Tim Burton's previous films will probally be cross
between Beetlejuice and Sleepy Hollow with a touch of Edward Scissorhands.Chloe
Moretz last year compared it to Sleepy Hollow and Beetlejuice.Yes there Is comedy
In there put the studio Is likely overplaying the comedy In trailers and using campy music to hide darker elements. There will be serious and horror moments too. This won't be a Mars attack parody from Burton.
