And it is a bit jarring pitting Russell Crowe's pseudo-British scientist Jor-El against Michael Shannon's Chicago-inflected General Zod. But we are talking about a movie concerning a flying Jesus in tights, so silly is sorta relative.

^ Well written review; gives what appears to be a balanced perspective. Love that shot of Supes in front of the military, too; the costume really looks awesome in this film.

If you read the whole review in context it's pretty fair overall. :)

Of course I'll have to wait and see till I've watched the movie.

So when the embargo lifts are there going to be just a bunch of reviews pouring in or is it just going to be random like one every once in a while type thing

^I'm sure that many will come out of the flood gates initially, but it will trickle down as with every other wide release. Expect a steady flow until release, and perhaps another boost after OW.

i don't know about you guys, but i got the feeling that this groucho reviews reviewer came in with a bias against superman already. i couldn't shake it the entire read.

He gave The Avengers and Star Trek Into Darkness a 3/4 as well. Don't look too much into it.

Some of my thoughts having just recently seen it:

[BLACKOUT]
-Cavill good.

-Ma and Pa Kent a bit underused. Pa's death seemed to forced.

-Some of the reviews were right. There's simply too much action and not enough character development.

-Superman causes too much unnecessary destruction.

[/BLACKOUT]

I'll have to see it again to cement my thoughts.

You think the pacing was too fast? I did. And what did you think about:

No explanation or mention of the suit? He just put it on and that was that. Also unknown amount of time between that and when Zod arrived. Could've been 6 months for all we know.

[BLACKOUT]Yeah, the pacing at the beginning was too fast. There was no build up to the suit. It's just sorta' "hey, here's the suit", then him walking out with it on.

Once Zod was reintroduced it was just mindless action, and no more story. They said Lois wasn't going to be a damsel in distress, but then they just shoe horn her with the typical sidekick role to give her something to do. Kinda like Gordon in BB.

Oh, and they killed Hamilton! WTF?!

Yeah beats me. Also Zod asked for Lois to come up to his ship. I still think that's a thin plot motive to get her into the action. You have Supes, that's pretty much all he would think to need. Also the room they lock her in has a keyhole conveniently placed. Little things keeping it from being truly great.[/BLACKOUT]

I dunno who David Faraci is, but his review is actually really good.

At the same time the action is extraordinarily disturbing. Again and again Snyder takes pains to show us civilians scurrying out of the way as Kryptonians clash in their midst. The death toll must be staggering, a completely world-changing amount of mayhem. But Superman doesn’t care.

Maybe I needed it spelled out more, but I never got the sense that Superman was trying to take the conflict out of the city. He doesn’t stop fighting to rescue people trapped in rubble, and since we’re watching Perry White and some Daily Planet staffers trapped in rubble during the battle we can assume there are many others in similar dire straits.
-------
Whatever problems Man of Steel has - and it has enough to keep it from being a cohesively great movie - it has enough good to make it a must-see. Like I said up top, a couple of thousand words ago, this is the Superman movie we’ve been waiting to see. The fact that it leaves room for improvement only makes me more excited for the next one.

Is the movie Lexless? Since I'm not seeing his name mentioned anywhere.

For those who have seen the film, I only have one question:

The Wayne Enterprises logo on the satellite that Zod destroys - is it the same logo from the Nolan trilogy or is it different?

[BLACKOUT]Christopher Meloni is revealed to be Lex after the credits. He removes a wig, revealing a completely bald head.[/BLACKOUT]

It looked the same, but it's really hard to see it since it's upside down and barely on the screen.

I know it's a small detail... but for those who saw the whole movie (end credits included), what company (or plural) did the 3D stereo conversion for MOS? If it's Stereo-D, I'll see the 3D version.

CraveOnline's review - William Bibbiani

“Man of Steel is, by far, the best Superman movie ever made.”

Wow.

9.5/10

That's funny because Crave's other critic gave it a "Whatever" review. It's like the two of them saw a completely different movie. Having seen and reviewed Man of Steel myself, I could disagree with this more:
