Tom Cruise appreciation thread

I don't think anyone stole the movie from him in Vanilla Sky. Bangup job on his part in my opinion.

I've never seen a movie where I have enjoyed Tom Cruise as an actor.
Not even "Losing It"?

I still don't think Foxx outshone him in Collateral. Great job, yeah, but I actually prefer Cruise's personification of a killing machine.

Plus, I think he actually had the most powerful moment in Magnolia, so I'll count that too.

Would WOTW have done better if Cruise had actually promoted that instead of his relationship?
Nope...his character in the movie was all wrong....he was a terrible dad, only concerned about himself, and fairly stupid.....not what I want in a hero.

That was kind of the point.

Yeah. Spielberg didn't want a hero, he wanted a flawed human being, blah, blah, blah.

Although, I will admit, I could've done without most of the selfishness.

You may have a point on Collateral, but I think Moore was the best in Magnolia.

She was good, but I didn't feel the emotional punch with her as I did with Cruise's breakdown. Plus, he was pretty freakin' engaging as the more hardcore anti-feminist version of Hitch.

Oh I know that.....he was supposed to experience a spiritatual and emotional growth due to the circumstances he was placed in......but he was so much of a jerk at the beginning and until the last 1/3 of the movie....that I wanted Fanning to make it out alive without him.

I related to him enough to not want him to die.

I didn't necassarily want him to die........have an amputation or gaping stomach wound maybe....but he didn't have to die.

I have a hard time relating to Dakota Fanning at all ever.

I don't care what anyone says, but I really liked The Last Samurai. One of my fav films.

Ditto. I can't believe I lost my DVD of it. No idea where it went. I probably left it in France, which would really blow, since I didn't even get to watch it there with the stupid region crap.

I love that movie as well. I do not own it though.

I also love Minority Report

and MI2

Tom Cruise is gettin unfairly hated on the same way Affleck and J. Lo did during their stint. It's not fair to them that the tabloids decide to make them targets.

I'd say it's even more unfair to Cruise, since his work definitely eclipses Affleck's. Although, Affleck is a really cool guy, so maybe it's about even.

They're like polar opposites....Tom Cruise is a closet case who makes great films and makes an utter fool out of himself and acts like he is above everything. Affleck makes crappy films, but drinks, smokes, gambles, is the guy you'd want to hang out with and bangs Jennifer Garner and doesn't make a big deal out of it.

I like Tom on screen even though he's a bit off his rocker in real life. I like Ben on screen because he's awesome in real life.

Minority Report was good. I mean I think Tom is a real nut, but some of his movies are   .

Another thing that deserves to be pointed out, on screen, Tom Cruise runs better than ANYONE.
