The important thing here is why all the old timers have not returned to push for Welling in the new Superman movie.

Come on...return...you know you want too. Make this place fun to read again :)

I havent gotten to that point yet. I'm just happy as a pig in stink that Singer's abomination is going to die the quick death it so deserved.

I'm not sure I have the stamina or interest in another hardcore Casting War.

My first choice for Supes hasn't changed though (never will), but since that tends to NOT WORK OUT , I'm more receptive to them finding someone else who will fill the boots properly. I don't think Tom's the only option out there - just the best one I've seen.

Totally quoted for truth!

Tom is completely the best one I've seen.

So, I'm right there with ya...

Well now that most of the regs have returned, you guys will need someone to lead you. I volunteer myself!

I don't know if I can take more rumors. I know I wasn't here for the SR news but if the whole justice league debacle (emi reporting who's the next Superman, Batman, i.e.) was any indication then I'll sit this one out (probably not, though). lol

Hells yah. QFT!

:D

Wow! Welling is owning that poll! WB should take note and do all they can about getting him in the costume. Plus, he and Bale are close to the same age with Bale being a little older, like Bruce is Clark so this would be perfect. But will Rosemblum be asked to play Lex?
Back to me being the leader of this forum......:cmad: :p

Fans clearly love Tom, well a lot of them do anyway, so why isn't the boy in more movies?

I'm hoping this is the last season so he can finally get his film career on track.

I think the problem with Tom is why go with a guy & alienate half of the Superman fan base that does not like him or Smallville when they can just get a guy that will probably just piss every fan off. After Returns the next Superman movie need every single fan behind it as possible & them chosing Tom Welling just will not do that. I don't think its about Smallville baggage but Superman needs a Christian Bale for this movie where around 95 % of the fan base loves him as Batman & they need that for Superman. Tom Welling just does not have that power with the over all fan base. The WB is in no win win situation when it comes to casting Superman. They will either alienate a fan base or just piss everyone off

The time is now guys, its time to go all in and see if we can pull off a Royal flush :D

Yea even though i love smallville most of the time and think tom would do great as supes in the reboot. He is likely not ever going to sign deal to do it. So i am fine if they can find a known or unknown actor who has the look and can act well. We dont need someone like routh again who had the face for supes but his acting was wooden and all that.

I'm not sure that's Routh's fault though. I seen an episode of Fear Itself where he did a great job of acting. I blame Singer for that more than anyone else. Still I'm hoping Welling will come to his senses, accept the big contract and wear the red cape. For the fans who "hate" Welling, as long as the story is good, they'll come around!

I've always taken exception with this statement. When I look at who hates Welling (now and yesteryear) I remember a handful of vocal people way back when who constantly got outnumbered by those that had no issue with him in the role.

When SR came out you had an influx of new members loyal to Routh, and the hate group grew. Everyone who still liked Welling either moved on to a different board, or stopped posting altogether.

The 'geek' audience would not be anywhere near split if he were ever cast though. The Smallville panel at Comin Con is one of the biggest year in year out, and Welling's never even there. Could you imagine how ape people would go if he actually attended?

As always, there's a very loud group who hate him dearly, but that certainly does not mean even close to half the people would be pissed if he was cast. Even now poll after poll shows that not to be the case.

Even the fans that will be pissing themselves angry if Tom were cast will STILL SEE the movie.

Then they will be so blown away by the perfection of his casting that they will kick themselves for their incredible short-sightedness and will all start wearing I  Tom Welling t-shirts.

:D

I'm all for it too, its Tom's turn :D I'm putting a few things in motion tonight, should all be ready tomorrow

I think Tom would deliver a performance that would blow his critics away... he has shown real talent and is very smart.

He'll do right by the role, if he were to get it, IMO. In fact, he would probably do it so right that people will wonder why they didn't see how perfect he was going to be.

And now for something completely different.

You remember the 6'5" Batman, Armmie Hammer? He's got a recurring role in Reaper this season:

Over on Entertainment Weekly.com:

Ask Ausiello said:
Question: If you want to keep your title as spoiler king you need to hit us with some major Reaper scoop. -- Jeff
Ausiello: This just in -- major Reaper scoop! Armie Hammer (no relation to the baking soda) is joining the cast as Morgan, Sam's half bro. Although it would seem he's only concerned with spending time at the hottest clubs and dating super models, Morgan is secretly jealous of Sam, and has a darker agenda which will prove to be dangerous to Sam and the gang. Do I get to keep my title?

Sounds pretty good to me... I watch the show anyway, but I'll probably pay more attention when the half-brother shows up.

;)

I love when people make up statistical %'s of people's tastes as if there was somehow a big fan poll done of the entire Superman fanbase. Every poll I've seen on non-biased sites has Welling winning in a landslide. Hell there was a poll that came out about a month after SR unspooled, I forget the site but Pat or trip or Rene likely have the link, and Welling still won it in a landslide.

As for "alienating" the fanbase, I would hope that one of the things learned from the SR debacle is that the actor that plays Superman is really secondary to having a good director with a great script. SR didnt have either of those (I'll concede Singer is a decent director but handled SR poorly) thus anything Routh might've been able to do with the part was negated by that and Singer's subpar direction. If the vocal minority *****es about Welling initially, big deal, a decent film will shut most of them up anyway.

We also need to point out the unknown % of fans who aren't online but would support Welling for supes.

I agree,Routh could have been better given the appropriate script to work with. An Tom would be an awesome Superman given the chance, but like I said before its very unlikely we'll see that.

In the face of all the recent statements of a season 9, I have to ask the obvious question of just how valid the argument is that Tom doesn't want the role of Superman.

Welling is not signed through season 9. They'd have to get him back under contract for the show to continue (and the show runners seem to be talking very seriously about season 9, as if it's a foregone conclusion Tom will re-sign).

So I have to ask again: how sound is the logic in saying Welling doesn't want to be Superman? Consider that he'd be re-signing for a TV show about the same character (after playing that character for 8 years already). Having to endure a MUCH harder schedule (when compared to a movie). Receiving far less money than he'd get for playing the same character on the big screen. Further cementing himself to a role he apparently doesn't want. Etc, Etc. Etc.

Every piece of logic and twisted quote about Welling not wanting to play the character kind of goes out the window if there's a season 9 of Smallville.

I think you're right, Zing. Tom would be far more welcome in the role by the general public than disgruntled SR fans would otherwise like to think...

I think he'd own the role, but given a terrific script and less arrogant, self-aggrandizing direction, almost anyone with some acting skill and the right look would probably do okay...

Just think how excellent Tom would be with the right script and the right director!

If they can get the right combination with Tom in the role, I'll be first in line at the midnight showing and will probably skip work the next day to see it again at the first showing during daylight hours too...

You know, this is why I am totally against a ninth season. They really should wrap everything up this year and just move on into movies. I mean, the way the show will be set up in Season 8--i.e., Clark and Lois at the Planet; Lana and Ma Kent gone--what else is holding them back from being a full-bore Superman story (other than dragging the show on past its prime to reap in ad dollars)?

Everyone keeps talking about how difficult it is for movie goers to relate to a 70 year old character or how hard it is coming up with a modern take on Superman. All the while ignoring the fact that they've had a frickin' TV show doing just that for the last eight years! And if Robinov wants dark, Smallville has shown you can go dark and still be an effective Superman story.
