Tom Welling as Superman

I would debate this with you but I already see where this argument will go and I will not give Pat that satisfaction.:oldrazz:

There is nothing to debate. Smallville makes money. SR did not. Smallville gets renewed year after year BECAUSE it's a cash cow for WB. SR is not.

I don't care what you're opinion or anyone else's is. I don't care what your reasonings or explanations may be for why the above is what it is - because it just is.

Numbers don't have opinions. People do. Numbers don't have excuses or explanations. People do.

The reason people argue or spin the numbers is because they are cold. Hard. Factual. Numbers don't care about how you feel, or what you want.

You like SR/Routh? Good for you. I respect your opinion. But your opinion however does change the facts or the numbers.

So quoted for truth!

I still love that people say that Welling doesn't want to play Superman in a movie...Yet, can never back it up with an actual quote from him. :)

If I had a dime for every time Pat ended an argument with facts, I'd be rich enough to buy Warnerbros. and finally get a Superman film done right :D

That's a valid point. So why do so many people believe that Tom didn't get on with Al Gough and Miles Millar and that they prevented him from playing Superman?

Hmmm...

I actually have such proof Welling stated on a radio interview that he didnt want to put on the tight and cape due to the fear of been type casted in that role.:yay:

Ok folks I managed to find that interview I mentioned earlier.

You post that as if it's new to any of us die-hards. I think most of us TW fans heard that the day after it aired.

Here's the thing - I believe that Tom does not want to wear the suit and be the costumed wearing "Superman" character on Smallville. He's said innumerable times that that simply isn't what the show's about. Does that mean he hates the idea of ever playing this character on the Big Screen? Well, some like to extrapolate his comments to prove he does - which is ridiculous.

The truth is, unless you are Tom or one of his nearest and dearest, you have NO IDEA what he would do if he was actually offered a great deal to play the next step of this character he's been for 8 seasons now in a big budget movie.

I certainly don't know either, but at least I don't pretend that I do.

Still, I'd love for him to at least have the opportunity presented to him because I don't think there's any doubt that he's absolutely the best option out there.

The point of posting that was pretty obvious - even you should have understood. But alas... :whatever:

Someone said that no-one can back-up claims of Welling saying he didn't want the gig. That radio interview made it crystal-clear.

What excuses do we have now? Because I have no doubt in my mind you all will come up with something else... :o

Wow. Even I should have understood?

My, my... aren't we a little defensive. I'm sorry your hardcore "omg!proof" doesn't impress me much.

I have no doubt you will come up with something else.

Ive heard that before but its not a declaration that he wont play Superman or wont don the suit, he was addressing a question that playing Superman has sometimes hindered his predacessors on perhaps getting other roles, He definatly doesnt say no I'm not going to don the suit ever, he implys that if he avoided the tights he may have a greater chance on certain roles...I wouldnt even call that a smidgen of proof hes said hes not gonna, even wear the suit on Smallville...

Also that was near 4 years ago & it was before The Fog didnt do as well as people might have thought, by now hes probably looking at BR & hes had a few albeit small roles after Superman Returns.

It didnt matey, he simply answered a question about people who'd played Superman before him, perhaps being handicapped when it came to getting other roles due to people connecting them always to Superman & he said that if he avoided the suit/tights it possably could benifit his long term career, he doesnt actually say I dont want to wear the suit or say he doesnt want to play Superman, therefore it aint proof :)

Saying that I dont know the guy so I dont know what he'd say if he was told he was wearing the suit for an episode of Smallville, or if he was offered the role for the reboot by WB...and neither does anyone who isnt a close friend of his :oldrazz:

Doesn't this guy have a "scoop" to write about or something? Posting in here is just a waste of his time.

THAT interview of all interviews is your "crystal clear" proof that Welling doesn't want anything to do with Superman? LOL Is it still 2005? Back before the whole JLA fiasco

maybe we should bust out the interview where he said he didn't want to play Clark Kent in college, at the Daily Planet, etc. too

oh wait....

I'd think they're too busy trying to talk themselves into how having a completely rebooted franchise with the same lifeless stiff of a lead actor from the previous failed one is a good idea.

It's like 2005-2006 all over again where some people just accepted all of the silly things we were hearing about SR because "SINGER IZ TEH BESTS!!!11!!1" and then when it sucked, they all acted surprised.

I wish tom would do more interviews. He's an entertaining dude.

He really is.

Here are a few favorites:
This is Selma Blair talking about working with Tom. She's a RIOT. [YT]7_TBOv4aPeo[/YT]

Being a big fan of both Steve Martin and Bonnie Hunt, I LOVE this interview with Tom about Cheaper by the Dozen. Note the hysterical comment he makes after they show the outtake clip. [YT]mGMrZ9-CDSw[/YT]

He's such a goof sometimes. He really has a great sense of humor. He talks about why he sucked at being a male model, and what meeting Shaq was like in this one.

Yea i just hope what ever wb decides to do with the next superman film be that total clean slate reboot or singer sequel they just give the character better justice. Singer totally dropped the ball with Sr. But like i and others have pointed out with the on going copyright share battles between wb and the creator's families wb really needs to get on the ball and do something with superman to try and cash in one last time in the slime chance if they do lose the copyright.

Why is it in this video he claims that talking with christopher reeve, he wanted to know more about Superman & Chris said, he doesn't need to know yet because he's not Superman, yet in the season 2 dvd he says it was the other way around, that he himself did not want to know & Chris wanted to explain more to him?. No wonder the guy doesn't do many interviews, he kinda sucks at it :woot::oldrazz:

Theres a video that pretty much would cancel out that so called rock solid proof Welling wouldnt wanna play Superman,I'd never heard of that before that he actually went to the possable director (aka Brett Ratner) house & the main obstical was schedule clashing for that particular failed Superman series launch..

I was thought I'd heard that as well, maybe he was sniffing glue with Michael Rosenbaum for the season 2 dvd extras tho & got confused :woot:

You need to be consistant in interviews....like Vin Diesel - http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=JJYXqq9xpOk

In fairness, if your asked the same question over and over, you dont really have 30 different answers :P

Welling thought that it was cool of Shaq to introduce him as :supes: to his Shaq's kids. SWEET!!! :cwink:

I have said this a million times. But, WTF is up with Warner? C'mon make a decision about the new Supes movie already. It's been months since your decision to go in a new direction with Supes.

yea i hate that wb cant get things moving along with the sc stable of characters. Right now in that area we got hex and gl the most likely films to be shooting next yr for 2010/11 releases but flash/ww and others are still moving no where. I so would like to see them finally get these films out there and they are good quality films like bb/tdk has been for batman.

Let's just assume for a second that Tom isn't going to play Superman in the next film (I personally don't think it will happen). Would you want another Superman film whilst Smallville is still going?

Whilst I was a Superman fan before a Smallville fan I would prefer them to wait a while before making a new Superman movie.
