I just happen to have two quotes handy [Pat waves hi to the forwardee], and since the *other* thread was closed, I'm just gonna repost 'em for posterity...

"Flyboy" (The title of the article just Cracks. Me. Up! LOL)
by Robert Falconer

"There were so many rumors out there, and it's the kind of situation where if you speak about it you're damned if you do and damned if you don't. I'd rather be damned if I don't. I've even had the rumors reach the set. People came to me to say, 'Is this true?' or 'Is that true?' I tend to just let the snowball go... then get out of the way."

"Well, I have been approached, but that's all I can say on the matter," he grins, a twinkle in his eyes, and refused to say more...
If you quote those you got to quote where he says he did not want to play Superman or even Clark going off to college and things.

AgentPat So we shouldn't believe what he says publicly? How 'bout the comments made by a certain film director about his casting choices? C'mon Milkman! We've got to hang our hats on something said:
say[/i]. Read between the lines if you want (I do), but I think we need to take things at face value first before boarding the train to assumption junction

True, I see your point and always have. I'm just saying let's not hang our hats on what he has said publicly either. We both know there's more to it, that's all.........

Indeed. There will ALWAYS be details left unspoken.

Great quote by TW. He knows NOT what to say, which further fills the pot of speculation on what happened when he was cast on SV and his offers for Superman under the director's McG and Brett Ratner.

Of course not. He's a smart cookie. He KNOWS when to shut his trap about these things. He's not about to burn any bridges with past, present, or potential future employers.

Agreed.

What is? Character development? It should be the focus of ANY character. Some just have more to "develop" than others.

True, the character is always the focus, not his suit/outfit.

Did you audition for Nolan?

I wish I could of. I'm built like Bale but being just a tad shorter........

There's "definitions" and there's "preferences." Defining a comic book character is pretty haphazard since there's so many interpretations to reference. I can tell you what I prefer and what I don't... but sheeeit, you already know my feelings on that, doncha? :p

Yeah, you love Tom, which is fine. I really don't have a preference. Give me a good Superman film with any actor that has the potential to pull it off and I'm fine........

I dont know I guess I see him more as Superboy because thats pretty much who he is and is acting like.

So how about that Tom Welling as Superman.

LOL, Avid your trying to do the same thing I was when I made my Dolphins comment.:D

unfortunatly mine created just a new avenue of argumentation.:O

Maybe in Season 1 and 2, but I think progressively since Season 3 and particularly this season he has grown into a man with some of the hurdles he had to cross.

Although I do find it interesting that he hasnt done anything particularly heroic in Season 5, except for the missile in Hidden and the helicopter in Exposed. And by heroic, I mean using his superpowers to save the day.

I know I said the same thing when that conversation was going on too long as well. :D

I would like to see TW and Christian Bale in a Batman/Superman crossover film about 15 years from now.

Not really because if you read the Superboy comics he is pretty much doing what he did back then with out the time travel. It also reminds me a little of the Superboy series only more advance. I mean for me to say Superman right now he has to learn what it means to be Superman. Right now he is to human and Superman is not human. He is not a leader yet. He has not shown me he is the person I want to lead me during OWAW or something like that.

I would love to see them more doing Kingdom Come. I think TW would make a great Kingdom Come Superman because right now his Clark and Super Clark are almost like the same person that I am not sure how he will do playing a duel role. So I like him in Kingdom Come there he is always Superman.

The only thing that still raises an eyebrow on Welling and the role for me is..

The TCA, I know he wasnt smiling and winking because he was cast in The Fog.

Maybe he thought who ever was asking him the questions was hot.:o

That's what I meant - IMO, a Batman/Superman film should take place later in their careers, kind of like that excellent Andrew Kevin Walker script that almost went into production with Wolfgang Petersen directing. In that case, we were looking possibly at Colin Farrell as Batman and Jude Law as Supes. The story is good, but thankfully that casting didn't happen.

I think having both TW and Bale in their late 30's or early 40's would be great for a film that takes place later in their careers........you could re-cast Supes easily to Welling if Routh doesn't work out.........

True it is easy to pretty much re-cast all of the Superman cast if you wanted.

^Exactly. Adding another 10 years of age on TW and 15 more pounds and he'd make an excellent older Supes...........

He would really come out looking like Geroge Reeves Superman toward the end which still wasn't that bad.

I think I'm feelling a little ill...

Someone let me off this ride, please?

^This conversation is about TW as Superman. What ride are you talking about?

What ride, you ask? The merry go round of this argument, of course.

The argument keeps going around and around and around and around...

Around and around she goes.
Where she'll stop, nobody knows.

*sigh*

^Well, that's debating and what message boards are all about. Why would you come to a board where everybody is a robot and thinks and acts the same way? I'm sure we'll continue to have fun and have this go around some more............

I've been around, milkman. I know what it's like on forums so you don't need to talk to me like I'm a newbie.

It's just frustrating to me when people say the same things over and over again and don't listen to each other. It becomes a game of one-up-manship that no one can ever win...

Well you better be very careful about where you go with your posts, or where you try to take the argument -- and I mean VERY careful. Every mod was sent that initial EULA and most agreed to have zero tolerance towards those who try to turn it into any of the usual debates.

EULA for the Tom Welling as Superman thread:

Discussion is to be restricted to Tom Welling as Clark Kent/Superman on Smallville and what Tom Welling brings to the table (with regards to the character) on THAT show only!
By entering this thread you agree to not post, mention, or bring up Superman Returns in any way shape or form. By posting Superman Returns related pictures, information, opinions, or insinuations in the Tom Welling as Superman thread you will agree with any punishment that can or will be handed down to you by SuperHeroHype Forum Moderators.

Not saying you're doing anything wrong now, but you're fast approaching the line that could easily launch a flame attack, and get you in trouble.

TW and Bale? Yeah, that works for me.

Uh... Go Bears. :D
