Which is just how you guys looked at him anyways.
What has *our* view of him now got to do with his reasoning for turning down the job five years ago?
Man, what IS it about this topic that's so difficult to understand? If Welling has any aversion to wearing the suit or flying ON SV, it's because it "goes against what we set out to do." He's said this DOZENS of times in DOZENS of interviews. In fact, there's a nod to that point in the latest EW article. He said (paraphrasing), "as long as they keep to the original plan, there's no telling how long the show could go." Read between the lines of that quote and you'll understand the big picture here. Clearly, Welling likes playing Clark. Why? Cause Clark doesn't have all the answers. Clark is still learning, so there's plenty of character development open to HIS interpretation.
Look at it from an actor's POV. It aint that hard. TW has been giving an opportunity that few other actors have had: the chance to reimage and mold one of the greatest fictional American icons from the ground up. It's more fun to start from scratch than it is to duplicate what somebody else did - and did well.

I really don't care what he says on camera...
So we shouldn't believe what he says publicly? How 'bout the comments made by a certain film director about his casting choices? C'mon Milkman! We've got to hang our hats on something, and unsubstantiated rumor and heresay ain't a good place to start. Listen to what people actually
say. Read between the lines if you want (I do), but I think we need to take things at face value first before boarding the train to assumption junction.
I just happen to have two quotes handy [Pat waves hi to the forwardee], and since the *other* thread was closed, I'm just gonna repost 'em for posterity...

"Flyboy" (The title of the article just Cracks. Me. Up! LOL)
by Robert Falconer
"There were so many rumors out there, and it's the kind of situation where if you speak about it you're damned if you do and damned if you don't. I'd rather be damned if I don't. I've even had the rumors reach the set. People came to me to say, 'Is this true?' or 'Is that true?' I tend to just let the snowball go... then get out of the way."

"Is Smallville's Superman going to transform into the big screen's Man of Steel?
by Thomasina Gibson
"Well, I have been approached, but that's all I can say on the matter," he grins, a twinkle in his eyes, and refused to say more...
That will be all PC and not the entire truth and you know it. There's a lot more to it, come on.........
Indeed. There will ALWAYS be details left unspoken.
Sorry, NOTHING is incorrect at this point. Again, do you actually think TW is going to describe everything that happened during his casting process and his likes and dislikes to the public? NO.
Of course not. He's a smart cookie. He KNOWS when to shut his trap about these things. He's not about to burn any bridges with past, present, or potential future employers.
Agreed, but isn't that the main focus of any "superhero" character?
What is? Character development? It should be the focus of ANY character. Some just have more to "develop" than others.
For example, I'm more interested in the psychological make-up of Bruce Wayne than seeing him in the actual suit.........
Did you audition for Nolan?
Well, I guess it matters what your own personal definition of Superman is.........I stand by my quote until proven otherwise.........
There's "definitions" and there's "preferences." Defining a comic book character is pretty haphazard since there's so many interpretations to reference. I can tell you what I
prefer and what I don't... but sheeeit, you already know my feelings on that, doncha?
