Tom Welling as Superman

You know, I haven't cancelled my notification on that IESB thread even though most of what people are saying is complete crap and getting notified on every single post is annoying as hell...

But I was glad I hadn't cancelled that when I saw a post today by blkyank, in which he said this:

A guy who only wanted to watch because he wanted to validate his position that Welling wasn't the guy to play Superman was won over by his performance on Smallville...

That's saying something.

Ha! That's pretty awesome. I have always believed that majority of people who endlessly bash Welling's acting and/or Smallville have never really watched the show. Sure, they may catch bits of an episode here or there, but most of the complaining stems from their pre-conceived notions of who or what Tom was before he came on the show. Or they'll harp on the whole WB connection (the oft-mentioned "Dawson's Creek" comparisons).

Just look at threads in which people ***** that Tom's too young or smaller than Routh. More often than not, they'll reach back to promo photos from Season one or his modeling photos from before he was an actor. I think the other percent of fans who claim to hate Welling or Smallville secretly do like the show, but would never admit it since it's cool to bash Welling.

Then you have the Superman fanboys who can't get past the fact that Smallville is its own interpretation of the mythos. They harp on every example of how it doesn't "reflect the source material" or "ignores the comics" (Metropolis in Kansas, Clark meeting Lois, Ollie, Perry, et al). Ironically, a lot of those same people have no problem with a film franchise that essentially ignores 30 years of comic book character development. Funny, that. ;)

At least that's how I see it here at the Hype where posters who I've never even seen before have sigs that not only bash Smallville, but this forum as well. :whatever:

Absolutely:up:

I find the whole uplifting nature of the show and americana elements far closer to Superman than an angst ridden dull movie.

I think although Smallville has made some changes-its all still handled with the upmost respect to the source material-unlike singer who gave us a waterd down version of the donner movies

its been said before but honestly the lack of news of any kind has been really getting my panties in a bunch the best thing I have read so far today is hey we dont know whats going on if you do let us know. Sure let me back seat in one of my pilots f-18's out to california to talk to Warner Brothers personally and someone tell my wife i will be back by dinner time cause i cant miss my time in the evenings with the kids

LOl @ that article acting like losing Biel was some death blow to the movie. That site is just regurgitating crap we've already heard. The guy who "confirmed" Welling be out of the running has since gone back and said it's now up to him if he wants to do it...

how can i be in the cool club? Coalition of Welling? Whos legs do i need to break.

You don't need to break anyone's legs, just go to your control panal (the User CP link at the top of every page) and change your custom user title in your profile...

Easy peesy!

:D

its been confirmed Tom will not be in JLA. But what this article didnt tell you is that its been confirmed that Tom is actually Superman in RL and wont play in JLA because he cant accept payment for something he does in RL (right)

LOL@how that article opens:

"According to reports in the times of india.com..."

HAHAHAHA!!!

DvilDog, it aint over till the fat lady sings. Hang in there. ;)

I'll make one for you...

Just let me know which manip you want it based on, if it's one that someone has done here you will probably want to get their permission first...

emijayne from CD chimes in with this today:

Okay...so I received an email yesterday that someone had posted a message on another board that a casting office in New York (Susan Shopmaker Casting at 21 East 26th St in New York City) was saying all characters had been cast for JLA. I looked into it and so far 3 of the 8 offices called (not including the named office above) have indeed said casting is finished. Of the remaining ones, 4 had no comment and 1 claimed to know nothing of the project. This all leads me to believe it is true. WB would only say that announcements would be made "in due time". The interesting part is Welling's agent said "I have no comment". Last time this question was asked, Welling's agent actually said he was not cast. Why the sudden change?? I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Also, the NY Times article was wrong about the script not being finished. It is on it's 4th draft. I was told it is absolutely good enough to shoot with and that Miller is quite capable of making revisions during production as he sees fit.

My other sources said announcements were expected this Friday but may have been pushed back up to a week. So the wait seems to be almost over. Thank God.

But if there are no announcements confirming nothing before October 31st & the strike happens on November 1st then I guess it will still be more rumors. I wonder if Robert will follow this up.

Educated guess: they're going to announce SOON! We're not gonna have to wait till Halloween for this. So...

Aight. I'm ready. What say you guys? :ninja:

Place your bets! Any predictions of the casting?
Based on all the casting rumors, spin, suggestions, and prayers so far, im 80% sure.....

Superman - Tom Welling
Flash - Ryan Reynolds

Everyone else im not sure. :)

And... Remember....WB wants BIG names for this film. JL is WB huge blockbuster for 2009. They are going to try to do everything not to screw this up.
