You know, I haven't cancelled my notification on that IESB thread even though most of what people are saying is complete crap and getting notified on every single post is annoying as hell...
But I was glad I hadn't cancelled that when I saw a post today by blkyank, in which he said this:
A guy who only wanted to watch because he wanted to validate his position that Welling wasn't the guy to play Superman was won over by his performance on Smallville...
That's saying something.
See the complete post here:

Ha! That's pretty awesome. I have always believed that majority of people who endlessly bash Welling's acting and/or Smallville have never really watched the show. Sure, they may catch bits of an episode here or there, but most of the complaining stems from their pre-conceived notions of who or what Tom was before he came on the show. Or they'll harp on the whole WB connection (the oft-mentioned "Dawson's Creek" comparisons).
Just look at threads in which people ***** that Tom's too young or smaller than Routh. More often than not, they'll reach back to promo photos from Season one or his modeling photos from before he was an actor. I think the other percent of fans who claim to hate Welling or Smallville secretly do like the show, but would never admit it since it's cool to bash Welling.
Then you have the Superman fanboys who can't get past the fact that Smallville is its own interpretation of the mythos. They harp on every example of how it doesn't "reflect the source material" or "ignores the comics" (Metropolis in Kansas, Clark meeting Lois, Ollie, Perry, et al). Ironically, a lot of those same people have no problem with a film franchise that essentially ignores 30 years of comic book character development. Funny, that.
At least that's how I see it here at the Hype where posters who I've never even seen before have sigs that not only bash Smallville, but this forum as well.
