Tom Welling as Superman

I think Steve's post makes sense and it also fits the time line that WB said that they wanted the Superman movie to take place and that was in a 3 year time line. And about the Cameo of different heroes in Superman I also believe that, cause they are doing the same thing with Green Lantern as reported in Latino Review where there is a scene where the GL ring is trying to find his new master and it flies next to Clark Kent and some of the other DC Heroes before choosing Hal Jordan. So that kind of makes sense that WB is trying to copy the Marvel substance for their own movies and I approve :D

Until warners and co say a new supes is cast, I'd never take welling out of the running.

and yet neither talking head has a source of any kind. It just seems like Jamie is *****ing about the Superman film and putting out his personal feelings as fact...again.

I saw that "article" and it kind of astounds me that these very biased editorial type write-ups are presented as if they were factual.

Gotta say though, I don't think much more of that other guy's supposed inside scoops.

I'm deeply into the 'I'll believe it when I see it (or read it in Variety)' mode. :D

and after the whole Sanchez/IESB debacle with the JLA film thats exactly the attitude you should have.

Speaking of which did that guy and his website get banished to the Phantom Zone or something? Talk about falling off the face of the Earth... Once JLA went kaput there's been nary a peep at that place. I still believe to this day he blabbed something that he shouldnt have and now he's paying the price for it....

I posted this in the Talon first, but here's my idea for how Welling can cameo in that scene you're talking about:

So WB/DC has finally gotten their act together and the GL movie is moving forward. Exciting news because word is that this particular script is a big wet kiss to fanboys (who deserve it after putting up with the Jack Black rumors).

One thing that I learned in some of the news accounts is that Michael Green is a producer on the movie. He was a producer/writer in the first season of Smallville (he wrote eps like "Craving" and "Nicodemus"). And it got me thinking (though I know it's highly unlikely) that maybe we can get TW a cameo in the GL flick?

There's supposed to be a scene in the movie in which Abin Sur's ring, when looking for a suitable bearer of the ring, come upon Clark Kent before getting to Hal Jordan. Wouldn't this be an awesome opportunity for Welling to cameo?

Think about it, there's nothing in the scene that would necessarily point out that the guy being passed up for the ring has any extensive dialog to explain who he is. And, unless they've figured out what to do about the Superman reboot, no one else is currently cast as Clark Kent (except Tom). So, we could have a five second cameo of Welling (maybe even in glasses) getting passed over by the GL ring.

By casting Tom, your audience instantly knows it's Clark Kent. Otherwise, you'd just have a random black-haired dude in glasses who may or may not be Clark Kent.

What do you think? I doubt it's possible. But it's definitely plausible, no?

^ Shades of the Batman Begins' casting rumor. LOL

Y'know, I bet Welling would have no problem (desire or availability) to do a cameo like that - it's still Clark Kent, afterall - but I doubt the studio would approve it unless TW was going to play Superman in the solo films. There's also the argument of continuity between SV and the Superman film franchise, because now they'd be connecting SV to the GL franchise as well, and I re-heeeely don't see them wanting to do that LOL.

That said, I'd love to see it happen. :woot:

It's a great idea, if they can throw Tom's fans a little bone, all the better!

Actually, I cameo like that works. Because if Tom manages to land the roll of Superman, then they've got a perfect cross over.

but if he doesn't. then it doesn't necessarily need to be a Clark Kent cameo. The fans of Tom would be like "OMFG it's Clark Kent!" but non believers could easily pass it off as just another dude that the ring passes by.

If they did something like that they'd more than likely go to the point of hammering it home for the rest of the general audience by showing something indicating that the guy is Clark Kent, like a name plate on a desk or someone calling him "Mr. Kent," etc.

Well, I agree, but appealing to "Tom's fans" has never been one of Warner's priorities, we being the red-headed step-children of Superman fandom, and all that. LOL :oldrazz:

Assuming they're nowhere near casting the new Superman film franchise, never mind having a director or writers attached yet, I think for the purposes of the GL film, they'd want to get a "generic" Clark Kent. Somebody who everybody recognizes as Superman's alter ego, but not recognizes as a particular actor. Because right now, Welling is only recognized as SV's Clark Kent. He doesn't wear glasses (yet), and Superman as Superman hasn't made his first appearance. So a generic Kent would be better for a general audience (in the GL film) than the actor from Smallville.

Don't get me wrong - I'd love to see it - but I'm just looking at it from Warner's pov. It also opens up a can-of-worms, because if they weren't barraged by SV fans in the past to have Welling step up to the plate for the films, they most certainly would be at that point. I don't think they'd want to swing open that door again - not that it's ever really been closed. :p

Good point. They could do a montage of the ring jumping from character to character, but not actually show the character him/herself. Would the general public "get" an image of a desk with a "Daily Planet" newspaper opened up to some natural disaster story, and a pair of horn-rimmed glasses laying right next to it (implying that Superman is off saving the day somewhere)? I think that might be more creative (and cheaper :p ) than actually casting an actor for the role. It leaves their options opened, and Hollywood is all about wanting options.

That's a good idea. That would also explain why the ring didn't choose Clark. But it'd still kick a** if Welling was chosen for the cameo.

Heh. Poor Hal.

The rings first choice was out saving the world, so it settled for him.

Take this with a huge grain of salt...

Yes, I was the one who posted it. I tried in vain to make it sound a little more appropriate. But I let my emotions get the better of me, and for that, I apologize.

I may not be in the same camp as some of you, but that doesn't mean I can't play Indian giver once in a while.)

^ It's been posted a long time ago. Any other week old op ed articles from wannabe news websites you'd care to regurgitate to lamely attempt to "get our goat" over here? Maybe Steve Younis' rebuttal to IESB's Welling in the JLA story?

I realize that Routh ever donning the cape and tights again is pretty much a lost cause, but the whole thing with you only ever coming here in some lame attempt to dump on Welling and the people who support him (which is awfully apparent in your post history in this forum) is pretty sad. It's not our fault that your boy dropped the ball.

Anything on the new Supes movie yet? Its been a few months since they said they were rebooting the movie.

The only real news about this movie has been that they would like to keep Brandon Routh but that's about it. Also they never said they were rebooting Superman, they said they were going to reintroduce Superman so that could mean anything from a reboot, to a prequel to SR, to a action packed sequel (much like TDK was to Begins), to a requel (Sequel and Reboot in one).

LOL your take on the latest bits of news is most amusing. No one said they "would like to keep Routh." The Latino Review writer inferred that from some general off hand comments the DC Comics guy made about Rufus coming by the Studio. That was it.

And the reboot is pretty much confirmed, despite the semantic gymnastics that you and some of the clowns over at BT are trying to go through. Why else would they have guys like Millar in pitching trilogies? Or inquiring into the availability of guys like Leterrier and Zack Snyder?

I am not trying to claim anything Hulk. I am stating the truth we have no idea what this movie will be plain and simple and I am also stating the truth about Routh when you would have the president of DC Comics openly say that they would like to have Brandon Routh back then happen to invite Routh to a big WB event and call him Superman and show case him with Batman it is pretty clear at the moment they would like to still keep him aboard. Now things may change but at the moment the only person who seems to still be in is Routh. But as far as the type of movie we will get no one knows that because the WB can't make up their mind all we know is that they want a dark action packed Superman movie.

Also Hulk don't take what Paul Levitz said lightly. I mean he is the president of DC Comics and since the summit DC and the WB have been pretty much on the same page where they are now working together where as before it was the WB working alone.

Also don't classify me in a group because I could care less who would be Superman just as long as we get a good Superman movie. I would have posted the same info if it was rumored that Tom Welling is to be Superman. Right now that is pretty much all we know about this Superman movie is that they still like to keep Routh and they want it to be a darker more action packed movie. However that can change and tomorrow we could have Welling or someone else as Superman. Hopefully though we will know something concert soon.

 But Levitz never said that. The whole thing about Routh coming back as Supes was the LR writers take on Levitz's comments about Routh "being by the studio" and even he only said "still in the mix."

Which is why I say Hulk he is still in the mix only until they find someone new or even if they want to find someone new. I am not saying that it is a sure fact Routh will be Superman for the next movie. I am just saying right now all sights including your SaveSuperman is reporting that they would like to have him back as far as the type of movie we will see how ever is still up in the air although it is rumored we should hear something this month or next regarding all the DC movies.
