Tom Welling as Superman

^^ Not a surprise, CR and TW blow the competition away as usual. Looking back, WB made a mistake by not ending SV back on season five to make the movie soon after, what a difference for the better it would've been, a credible Superman, a better Lois with Erica and the best Lex ever, Michael Rosenbaum.

I think Welling could be in the Superman film series, but I wouldn't cast him as Superman. I'd keep Routh as Superman, and I'd cast Welling as Mon-El! I think this would be a good compromise, and then Welling could spin off into a Legion movie. Thoughts?

I agree with most of what you have said, but to say Welling is a better Superman is rediculous considering he has never been Superman. Routh has! And personally I'm not certain Welling has the acting chops to play Superman on the big screen.

lets not get into the who is a better superman between TW & BR. Personal opinion, Superman isn't an emo character and Routh did not make me beleive a man could fly it's that simple

Why say, "let's not get into" it, then proceed to do just that?

Here we go again.... :whatever:

Who would Reeve choose to succeed him as Lois Lane's lover? "In my opinion," he says, "the character is more important than the actor who plays him, because it is an enduring mythology. I'm sure that they'll cast appropriately, and take their time and find the right person. But it definitely should be an unknown." That said, Reeve adds that "[Smallville's Tom Welling would] be an ideal candidate. I don't know if [he] can switch from one job to the other, but I'm sure they'd figure it out!"

Christopher Reeve voiced his approval of the show:

"I was a little bit skeptical when I heard about [Smallville] at first, but I must say the writing, the acting, and the special effects are quite remarkable. In 1977, a big stunt scene would have taken us a week to film – it's pretty impressive what they are able to do with computers and effects technology today on a weekly TV show. It gives it a lot more production value and inventiveness than I thought I was going to see when I first heard about the series. I think the show is doing a really good job following the mythology, and Tom is doing a good job following the tradition."

He knew what he was talking about (unlike others). :word:

I have to agree with Mikelus to an extent here. I've been a fan of both Routh & Welling since thier names were first mentioned, Welling obviously my first choice. I see great thing's that both men can contribute to Superman's character so my judgement is not biased to one or the other. However I'm getting mighty sick of the usual "I don't think Welling has the acting chops to pull it off on the big screen" arguement. It's not only weak, but flawed & used far to often as a way to get the Welling fans going. Welling has every bit the acting chops that Routh has & if Routh gets most ppl's tick of approval then why not Welling?. Routh's acting in SR was flawed & wooden alot of the time but he gets cut the slack alot of the time & it's wrong. Both Welling & Routh have alot to learn but hey, so do all actors. you learn & grow with each new endeavour. All I'm trying to get at is, stop with the Welling hate, Smallville's downhill slump is not Welling's fault, nor is the bad writting. his acting is sufficient for what is required from the script, he can only do so much with what he's given. You put an award winning writting team togetehr with a great director & i gaurantee you'll see a different Welling, but sadly you'll never see that because Hollywood, much like alot of you want to kick Welling while he's down, it's wrong.

Yea lets not make this thread into a welling/routh debate we do that enough over in the superman movie threads. Though yea i love welling's work in smallville and i would love to see what he could bring to the big screen but its doubtful we will see him as supes on the big screen let alone in smallville. As for routh i still didnt like his superman in SR he like many others have said and i think he was wooden and didnt do well in the role. Though most of it was probably routh's ability and the script/singer making him play it like reeve.

Though like i said a few times over in the superman threads routh should only be staying if the next film is a direct sequel off of SR but if its a total reboot we need an all new and fresh cast to get away from the donnor world. As for the crazy rumors of doing a reboot with routh still in the lead come on that doesnt make alot of sense there. If you want to reboot it should be a full on reboot so you can get away from all the things the failed product did.

Anything is possible with the morons at WB, they think allowing Mr. Wayne in SV or Clark with the suit "conflicts" with their movie franchises, like it would be the end of the world and destroy anything, whatever....

im sure this will be the final smallville season. i can't wait to see clark in the suit in the finale. i have to admit this season is awesum so far.

Please vote for Tom in this new poll: http://www.**************.com/fansites/news/?s=15&a=5796#

I am really getting tired of the waiting. I just want Smallville to come back so I can see the Legion!

LOL

People have been arguing reather Brandon Routh or Tom Welling should wear the S.

I HATE it when people argue reather! :D

Not only did they make a typo, but they also made one using the wrong version of the word "whether." Who edits that site? And reading some of their other articles, they read like they were written by a middle schooler without spell check.

That being said, I see Tom is winning handily again. When will the accusations of cheating start flying?

Dear lord, Hulk is right. What god awful website is this?

Having written the script and baring the approval of Richard Donner himself, Singer seemed as exited as a child at Christmas to be able to create what was to be the “official” and “new” adventures of the most popular superhero ever to come from a comic book.

yea i hate that wb can get their heads straight with superman. Hopefully things have changed now since wb and dc heads had that summit talks a few months ago. Hopefully what ever they do they make a much better and well rounded film.

I think if offered the role he would take it

1) He has been on Smallville 8 years now he may play Clark Kent but most people would say he is Superman so it's a bit late to worry about type casting

2)Robert Downey Jr ,Christian Bale and Edward Norton all great actors have all played Superhero's it's no longer looked down at to play a Superhero and certainly it hasn't hurt any of thier career's.I would argue that Tom's best option is to take Superman after Smallville as it would lead to other roles.

But you know maybe Tom like's working on TV and will want to continue that after Smallville ,think David Boreneaz who did many years in Buffy and Angel ,Sci Fi shows and has moved into a more mainstream show in ''BONES''.

Their careers were far already established by the time they played Iron Man, Batman and the Hulk.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but that poll is indeed rigged. In the same manner the USA Today poll was.

yea its a nice poll in all but you can multi vote which is a drawback to any poll.

Wait a second, are you telling me that a poll on some crappy little web site that nobody cares about got 1,000 votes in a single day through cheating? Say it isn't so.

Both "sides" cheated. I voted at 11:30 last night. I went back less than an hour later and both sides had somehow accumulated 100s of votes during that hour, at that time of night. Anyone who takes anything out of an internet poll like that is crazy.

^ If you feel like spamming the poll, have at it. It's a ridiculously small poll on an obscure website that nobody gives two hoots about anyway.

Even mainstream polls on gen aud sites like EW's Popwatch don't mean squat because some fanboy (or fangirl) will always cry foul about something. That said, I do find it funny how the popwatch poll, as timely as it was back then for being asked a week after SR left domestic theaters, is conveniently forgotten.

Eh. Whatever. Back to reclusion...

My point obviously was that the poll doesn't matter.

I dont think any of the major problems most people had with SR was Routh, Bosworth or Spacey. Change out the cast and you still had the same Lex land plot, Superman still not throwing a punch and the super kid. IMO if they should have done a reboot instead of Superman 2.5

LOL @ "bursting my bubble"....though I guess that explains how Routh came back and won then, almost simultaneously with you seeing this post no less. Guess you spoke to soon, huh? DOH! I hate it when that happens....

Seriously though, the frequency with which you monitor the goings on in this thread is almost disturbing. When I posted that, my first thought was I wondered how long it would take the Ruth Brigade to come in here to discredit the poll..... it's really sad.

My point obviously was that the poll doesn't matter.

but yet I'm sure you all voted in it first chance you got right? lol
