According to TV.com, Crusade aired on September 22nd last year...
LOL! Yup. I'm kicking myself for not noting where I first saw it. At the time, it was just another version of the same ad I had 10 other copies of. But I'm a packrat and save everything.

Sheeeit... Who knew? I mean, other than the designers of *that* ad, of course. :p

Okay, nuthin' new here, but I still get a good chuckle when I see this. I don't know where I scarfed it, but it was something "official" at the time. Possibly an ad for the then new season, or perhaps a cross marketing piece through Warner Home Video to sell the 1st season box set? I dunno.

What I DO know is... well... it speaks for itself:

It speaks for more than itself. ;)

I remember seeing that as a HUGE scrolling ad in Woodfield Mall - the ginormous mall in the Chicagoland area. It stopped me in my tracks. LOL..I'm sure I was quite the sight drooling at the big Superman ad in the middle of the mall. :)

I think I would die on the spot if I saw a ginormous version of that poster in a Mall.

Then I could hope that he would leap out and resuscitate me. :D

Yeah, I remember the mall ads too 'cause the same thing happened to me when I first saw it. It was shocking, actually. But I don't remember if they had the "Tom Welling as Superman" label? The ones I remember were the ones with just the preem date, and the ones that had "it was only a matter of time [till] Lois," or something along those lines. No matter though; I do like this one with the S1 insert.

That's pretty cool. I always thought that in the cover of the season 1 dvd he had that Superman look. And of course that image from the Season 4 promo shoot speaks for itself. Really neat Pat.

The huge poster in the mall at Tysons said "Look Up!"

God that was sweet!

Bingo! Yeah, that's the same one I saw here in Boston at the Burlington Mall. That's all it said: "Look Up!"

God that was sweet!
Understatement. I was in awe. Talk about being bigger than life. They couldn't have made him look any more amazing if they tried. And it did what it was supposed to - stopped me dead in my tracks. Damn fine ad, it was, it was. :D

In the latest Wizard, Jeph Loeb offers his thoughts on Welling's appeal as Superman:

"C'mon! He's my guy! Nobody works harder and delivers more. As they approach 100 episodes, I'm sure he'll hold the title for longest and best remembered."

Awesome! :)

Thanks for sharing that Raku.

That was a mighty nice thing to say. See, Tom really does pull off the look of Superman.:supes:

I hope he would say that after how much work he has done on the show.

That's one helluva compliment there. Wow!

Now I have a lump in my throat.

Yeah, 'cause such overly biased opinions couldn't possibly be legitimately heartfelt.

Hell, I bet he'll be comparing Jorge "Hurley" Garcia from LOST to Orson Welles next. :p

That's what makes that quote so special. He's seen first-hand how much work Welling's put into the character. That's something only someone who's worked closely with the production team can fully understand.

Once again you are putting words into my mouth I said what I said because like how RakuMon said he worked with him for all those years anything less would be an insult. Your reading why to much into what I said.

Wow.. What a wonderful thing to say. I'm joining Pat in the "lumpy throat" corner.

hahaha, now THAT would have been a sight to see ;)

Hey Thunder, you out there babe? You're better at this than I. ;)

Triplet first posted the first image from Aqua. I resized it and flipped it for "proper" orientation, just in case anybody wanted to... oh, I dunno, drag it elsewhere.

Oh look... Sideburns! LOL :p

Here's another shot with a different height on the camera...

Yeah. Suit or no suit, THAT'S my Superman. Yup.

He does pull off that "I'm really an understanding guy, but if you mess with my city I'll punch you into next year" looks doesn't he. Very Supermanly in the Reeve sense. Strong looking, yet kindly.:D

It's funny but I haven't seen yet a Welling Supes manip that has him smiling. All of them show him in a stern, serious pose. I wish I had the time to make one manip that shows him relaxed and smiling. The picture would exude charisma. :)

And yes Tom is my Superman and I am proud to say that no shoulder pads are required by him.

HWSNBN will make an excellent interpretation of Superman, but Tom Welling IS Superman :D

How long have you been lurking?

My gosh, I haven't seen that acronym in like... a year.

btw: you shouldn't talk about that film here... bad form.

Erm...actually, about two months. I haven't seen the use of that acronym here but on other forums, so I decided to use it to not talk directly about the movie. Even so, I still ended mentioning the movie in some form. Sorry, couldn't help it, because it's a good way for me to conciliate the two. :)

Hmm. Smiling shots, eh? Well, here's a few semi-recent ones in character for the helluvit. Anybody feel like maniping 'em, knock yourselves out.

Actually, the whole smiling thing is an interesting point to ponder. In S:TM, Reeve portrayed diametrically opposed personas in order to make the Clark/Superman deception more believable for the audience. It worked very well, even if his Clark was a complete goof ball. Welling's Clark is more like Reeve's Superman, minus the angst of course LOL. Reeve's version of Clark doesn't exist in SV, save for one or two silly instances (Clark putting on his tie crooked in Commencement, or his accident prone moments in Hidden - albeit while human - stubbing his toe, knocking over the statue, etc.) Reeve's Clark smiled a lot. His Superman however was more stern and determined looking, though he did have moments where he smiled. Sound familiar? (Look up)

This might have a lot to do with why many SV fans already see the Superman in Welling's Clark. Quite simply, SV's Clark ACTS like Superman. B8 summed it up nicely...

Supes' is stern and bullheaded, but there's a kindness in the eyes that's comforting. Yeah, there is a certain level of subjectivity to it, but there's definitely something palpable there. And while Welling's expressions run the Superman gamut, the proof is in a completely expressionless face because you still see Superman in the eyes and overall demeanor. The ability to just BE the character w/o making any special effort to "look" the character (through facial expressions, poses or costuming - whatever) is a HUGE part of buying into the fantasy for me...

The latest "fad" now seems to be that fans need to have certain reference points in order to connect the dots. It's a form of reality check. My reality check is right there. ^

Do we need to see an \S/ shield on his chest or him wearing colorful duds to recognize the character? No.
Do we need to see him catching a car (or throwing one) like it was a beach ball to recognize the character? No.
Do we even need to see him flying to recognize the character? NO!

He just is.
