Maybe I'm just being a biased American here, but I have to say that I don't think that Torchwood succeeds in trying to make its characters look "badass".

Case in point - the initial meeting and fight between Capt Jack and Capt John. I realize that when the Blur song came on and they started throwing punches, I was supposed to be impressed, but I just found myself laughing at the whole thing. Despite their apparent disregard for civilian casualties, I just can't see the Torchwood team as being badass.

Torchwood fail at everything.....have you learned nothing.

So the first episode...

Good -
Spike was in Torchwood
Jack is still cool

Bad
The fish trying to introduce the characters again for new comers was awful.
Gwen is going to get married
Owen is still alive
The fact that Torchwood is England worst kept secret (old lady)
General pace of the show

Well its wales worst kept secret because the are in cardiff but the statement still stands.

I wanted Owen to die so they could hire another doctor, which hopefully would of been a better character, but then I realized they would just hire Martha.

But then Martha would get her sexy on and forget about the doctor. She could also have an 'see who is more annoying contest with' Gwen.

Also anyone notice the actress who plays Gwen hardly ever blinks. Its freaking me out.

Martha's coming into Torchwood really soon.

By the way I live in Cardiff and think it's really cool to see a sci-fi action series being set here.

They film all over the place quite a bit. The old lady saying "bloody Torchwood" comes from the locals complaining when streets and buildings get closed down for filming.

They film most of Doctor Who here too. I'll try to take some pics next time they're here.

Obviously yes and it doesn't really make that major a difference to the show, so it doesn't matter.
