Wolverine and the X-Men to premiere on 8/2/08

That's interesting, but now to think of it, I don't recall the character's name in the first episode.

But the resemblance to Ultimate John Wraith is hard to deny:

I could be wrong, but I think that the reason why he may resemble the Ultimate (and IMO, crappy) version of Wraith is because the creators of the show might have wanted to give a tribute/shout out to ULTIMATE X-MEN. I'm just glad he is not Ultimate John Wraith.

Hopefully this MIGHT mean that we will be seeing the cool 616 version of Wraith in this series. Which would make a lot of sense, since the 616 version of Wraith will be in the X-MEN ORIGINS:WOLVERINE movie.

Eh, ever since the Ultimate Universe was created Marvel has been using elements of it outside of the comics (animated series, movies, etc.) as an alternative to 616. It's usually whichever they feel worked better of was more popular. It's obvious Marvel has a liking to Ultimate Nick Furry furry hence the use of him outside of the comics (most notably in the newly created movie-verse. So I don't see the point in complaining over the use of Ultimate John Wraith as opposed to 616.

Just so you know, I'm opposed to Ultimate Nick Fury being used in the movies. I believe that the ORIGINAL 616 versions of the characters should be used in the movie and TV projects. I also DO NOT believe in changing the race of ANY character.

The show is supposed to debut in Canada on Saturday. So hopefully there won't be any problems there like with the disgraceful BBC.

That will be in English on YTV.

I knew the beeb would find some way to cock it up for us.

But Ultimate Nick Fury is better.

I second the preference for Jim Steranko's Nick Fury Agent Of S.H.I.E.L.D. I would like to see Sean Bean portray that Nick Fury, the leader of the WW2 Howling Commandos, that took the infinity formula (an off shoot of the super soldier program) and is still leading S.H.I.E.L.D. today.

No he's not.

IMO, yes. Yes he is. I'd even go as far as o say he was far superior. Glad Marvel went with him for the Movie-verse. :o

You're just not a fan of the Ultimate Universe, huh?

BladeX, JP, Can you 2 at least say Why you prefer one Nick Fury over another instead of just saying that the other is wrong? I started reading Nick Fury when Jim Steranko wrote the comic in the 70's and I prefer that Nick Fury. I enjoy seeing Fury fight HYDRA, A.I.M. and his brother Scorpio, while also joking around with Dum Dum Dugan and his gal pal Val. I do not mind the Ultimate Nick Fury, but he seems to be more of a desk bound General than the one man army of Steranko.

Yep, I hate the Ultimate Universe.

And I think that the only reason why they went with the Ultimate version of Nick Fury is because they HAD TO, since they made him resemble Sam Jackson. That's the price they had to pay for making one of their characters look exactly like a real life person. In fact, IIRC, Sam Jackson has said in at least one interview that he had BETTER be cast as Nick Fury since they made the Ultimate version look just like him.

The reason why I prefer the REAL/ORIGINAL Nick Fury to the Ultimate version is because of the following reasons.

1. I don't believe in changing the races of characters.

2. I think both Millar and Marvel's reasons for making Ultimate Nick Fury black was because they wanted to give the IMPRESSION that they were making the Ultimate Universe more diverse. I find it both sad and funny that they made a B or C list character (who couldn't carry/support his own book for more then 3 years at most) like Fury, black in the Ultimate Universe. Notice how they didn't make much more popular characters like Iron Man,Ice Man,Cyclopse,or the entire Fantastic Four team black.

3. It seems that the only reason why Millar and Hitch made Ultimate Nick Fury resemble Sam Jackson is because they were trying to write and cast a movie instead of writing and drawing a comic book.

4. Because they made him into a boring and stereotypical desk bound general. You know, like the kind of role Sam Jackson played in XXX and the kind of role many black actors are given in action movies these days. Typical Millar, always trying to write a comic like a movie as a sort of resume to break into Hollywood.

BladeX, I agree with all your points. It is sad that the only Nick Fury film will be the David Hasselhoff Fury aired on Fox. While the film wasn't terrible the lower budget tv film didn't have Fury vs Baron Von Strucker, as they made the Baron 80 years old.

radio times still lists no UK date by the way. I've been thinking, maybe they are saving it to follow sarah jane adventures, which is getting a lot of promotion

You know i don't mind waiting longer to see the show it's just that the station had us believe it would be on in August. An explanation why they decided to shift the start date would do wonders. :o

To my knowledge no tv stations here have purchased the rights to Wolverine and the X-Men here so BBC is my only hope right now to see it on tv since i don't want to get in to the habbit of downloading this kind of thing.

Retroman, sorry if this is late to bring this back up.

But we know that BBC bought the UK broadcast rights for this show. Another company, the name of which I forget, but it was on Comics Continuum, got the DVD distribution rights for R2. But no, the BBC has been incredibly non-responsive on the fate of this show on your shores, when I think the first DVD release was supposed to come up for you guys I think around November.

So I wonder what happened since the show is already airing in many parts of the world including English.

No worries.

The BBC as i understand it is funded by the taxpayers money so unlike commercial stations i feel they should be a little more responsive when asked about matters like this.If they had said they pushed back it to a later date to capitalize on the buzz of the movie then that would be totally understandable. But they haven't said a thing. That's so strange.

Season one for X-Men TAS was released here recently on dvd and according to a review there's a trailer for Wolverine and the X-Men one the set.Hopefully that means one of the dutch kids channels has picked it up.
