Farrell is a decent actor but he's never been a big draw or able to carry a movie like this. I think this will cement his not being a strong leading man type and he will go to being more of a character actor type like his appearance in HORRIBLE BOSSES.

I agree with this, but I did think that he was the one really interesting thing about this film. As I said the problem with Arnold is he will never get past being Arnold, and the character suffers.

This film touches on some of the more interesting aspects of "what is real?", but in the end fails to deliver the goods. The first movie didn't even try to deliver the goods.

Yeah, I think people overrate Arnold's charisma a bit. I'm not saying he doesn't have it, but in some roles, I think it works against him. Particularly in a movie like Total Recall... because when you add the fact that he's lost his memory and everyone BUT him seems to know what's going on... he just comes off like kind of an idiot.

Yeah I was impressed with the visual effects, the sets, props costumes etc. of TR 2012 but the movie doesn't have the flare of the original. It looks more sterile which migth be the point but its not as interesting to look at. Like a lot of movies today TR 2012 felt more "safe" and assembly line produced.

Arnold probably isn't the actor Farrell is but Farrell had little charisma in the Quaid role. Arnold's charisma is what made him some enjoyable to watch in the 1990 film.

In the new film events just kind of unfold with no spark and some good actors are wasted. Nighys role could have been played by anyone. Beckinsale seemed to have the best part and the most personality. The original wasn't exactly super deep and full of brilliant acting but it was compelling. Like The Chris said the tone is where these two movies really differ.

I basically agree with a lot of your thoughts here...although I guess I differ in that I liked this new product...i didnt see this film in the same kind of "sterile" way you talk about, especially when compared to a "Clash of the Titans" and that level of sterility.

But this TR did lack the profound scenes or moments that will likely keep it from being a re-watched cult film..in the traditional sense.

HOWEVER, When you look at the level of detail in the CGI, the efforts of the imagery (such as obvious odes to blade runner in "The Colony", Star wars inthe synthetics, Fallout in the resistance enclave etc.), the imagery of this film really impressed me. Not to mention the scenes just were executed well. I loved the elevator fight, the car.

I think many people didnt catch the ton of sci fi homages in this film, the work and attention to detail are somewhat unmatched , ever IMO. I think alot of folks will end up noticing these things on a 2nd watch.

Havent read the thread to avoid spoilers so excuse if this has been answered already: is it anyhting after the credits?

no, there was nothing after the credits.

watched the movie. very disappointing. i still prefer the first one over this movie by far... this movie had nothing to it. no chemistry, no feel to it at all. the only good thing i got out of it was that i got to see it for free.

I just got done watching the original. Holy its bad. Awful, awful acting. Awful action, awful animatronics even for back then. The only good part is how damn hot Sharon Stone is, wow she looks great.

Lol, let me guess you think the new one is a masterpiece?

Just got back from it, and this Total Recall really is the worst kind of movie. It is the very definition of mediocrity. I've seen "worse" films, but at least those films leave you with something. Movies like "Total Recall" leave you with nothing. The acting is competent, but the characters have no personalities. The action is well produced, but its by the numbers and dull. There are no standout performances, set pieces, or story themes. I'm not the biggest fan of the original, but there are a ton of bizarre moments, fun performances, hilarious special effects, and memorable scenes in that one. This movie has none of that. It's totally empty.

I actually liked the movie, but this is a fair critique. There's nothing here to get real excited about. I think Collin Farrel had some good ideas about where to take the character, and the film makers left him cut short.

The movie just seems like a mish-mash of the original, with minority report and Blade Runner, and every other Phillip K. Dick movie thrown in there.

I will remember this movie for one thing. It's a movie so bland, that even Bryan Cranston isn't memorable in it.

I haven't seen the new one yet but If Bryan Cranston's arms gets cut off in this then for me it's worth watching. lol

I agree.

But I will say that both films are strong action films. Which is what they are meant to be.

Since it spoiled itself during the FIRST ****ING SCENE in the movie I bloody hated this one. And then they have the guts to think the audience should sit by for two hours watching this piece of vomit? With characters you only wish death for, and a pace so boring it could make a dead man fall to sleep I cannot fathom how anyone could like this.

Wow, I was considering seeing this one but reviews have been so bad for it. Now I guess I'll wait for red box, maybe...

Wait a minute...Richter isn't in this movie? He was the best character in the original. I'm definitely not going to bother watching this now.

Seems like they may have taken the Lori character and combined her with elements of the Richter character by making her Cohagens right hand operative/lead agent in the field.

Different parts of the two roles may have been put together.

I don't think the original is a great film but it's highly entertaining. How much of the weird stuff from the original is missing.
