TPBs Bought/Thought Thread

Batman:Mad Love-Got this from my girlfriend for our anniversary{Also got Wolverine:Weapon X haven't gotten around to it yet.}This has to be one of the greatest collections of Batman stories ever.I love Batman:TAS and this is great. The main story i think most are familar with{It's Harley Quinn's origin and was later adapted for an episode of TAS.}While Mad Love is awesome and deals with themes of obession there are other gems in this collection that are great.I think my favorite is the Two Face story in which Harvey gets Plastic surgery and falls in love with his doctor. It seems that he's healed until the revelation his love has a twin sister. Also there is a great Ra's Al Ghul/Etrigan story that serves as a tribute to Jack Kirby.Other great short stories including ones involving Scarecrow and Scarface. It's a nifty little volume that makes me love Dini's writing even more.

Just got The Man who Laughs and I kill Giants

Finished the Man who Laughs. Good stuff. Very good stuff.
The Man who Laughs is one of my favorite Joker stories.I think it's one of Brubaker's better stories too. That's saying a lot.

It's meant to be ambiguous. Personally, I don't think it was real. I think it was a massive storm that Barbara got caught up in and triggered her catharsis. But that's just me.
I think the ambiguity is what makes it such a good story. It can be played out with it being real or imaginary and either one works just as much as the other. And that way you can take whatever you want from the story, whether it's a fun geeky story about fighting giants, or a heart-felt one about coming to terms with losing a loved one.

I'm just glad I read your review of one of the issues ages ago, otherwise I probably wouldn't have heard about IKG and missed such a good book

Yeah Corpy, you and Yen's comments about the story really made me want to buy it. So thanks fat ass.

Thor by J M S ... halfway thru... Very good so far

IKG is one of the few stories I really feel compelled to get more people to notice. It's sold pretty well and the trade will probably do even better, but I think IKG is one of those stories every comic fan should read. It elevates the medium.

I finally got a copy of Thor Visionaries vol 2 after having bought vol 1 way back last year, and it was well worth the wait. Seeing Odin Thor and Loki go all out against Surtur was great, and it was brilliantly played against the battle, led by BRB, on Midgard. Odin's apparent death was followed by a great issue with a mourning Thor, unable to cope with and comprehend his loss, taken in by his great great grandfather, Buri/Tiwaz. It had a great charm to it. It was really light-hearted, but it was the beginnings of Thor learning a big lesson in mortality. I can't wait now for vol 3 to be reprinted, if they do.

Simonson's run rules.

I read Deadpool: Secret Invasion the other day. Pretty damned good; extraordinary, really, when you consider that Daniel Way wrote it. Decent jokes overall with some genuinely funny moments here and there. It's no Kelly, and it's not quite up there with my new comics humor standards in Incredible Hercules or Guardians of the Galaxy, but it's good. It's convinced me to jump on the ongoing with the next arc.

Batman: Lovers and Madmen - mediocre at best.

The Boys vol. 3 - Fantastic. One scene involving Hughie and his new girlfriend has to be the funniest thing I've ever read in a comic. Also, after reading #21, I haven't hated a character so much since Ozymandias. This volume was so good I might start buying this comic monthly.

Scalped vol.4 - I don't see how Jason Aaron does it. Another excellent volume.

Daredevil vol. 10: the Widow - Definitely not Bendis' best, but still a solid read.

Death of Superman - Good. Great action and art, but thin plot and a few plotholes. I'll definitely pick up World Without A Superman next time.

Hitman vol. 1 - Very fun and simple. Can't wait to read the rest if DC reprints it all.

Ex Machina vol. 3 - Another great volume. I hope the book explores more characters from Hundred's past.

Amazing Spider-man: Crime and Punisher
Im beginning to like the ASM stuff AFTER brand new day... bnd vol 1 was good, vol 2 was downhill, and i didnt even bother to pick up vol 3...

I bought the 'Nuff Said trade because my LCS had it marked down really cheap. I actually liked rea...looking at it. The New X-Men one that Morrison did was a hoot, I had no idea what the hell was going on but it was pretty neat. It was worth what I paid for it.

Also picked up the first volume of Promethea. Not got a chance to read it, yet

I loved the Thor 'Nuff Said issue. I don't know if Jurgens planned it that way or if it was serendipity, but it featured Thor and Loki remembering Odin, who had just died. Basically worked out to be a silent memorial issue to Odin.

I like the Avengers Nuff Said issue. It was right smack in the middle of Kang Dynasty, and it was basically when Kang dropped that freaky future bomb on Washington and killed everybody there, and the Avengers could do nothing but watch.

Yeah, that one was probably my favorite too. I wasn't reading Thor at that time, but I assumed that's what was going on

I don't have that in this collection. That sounds like a good one, too

I got Spider-Man Noir the other day, I was surprised how good it was, the art was pretty amazing. I wish the ending was a bit more climatic but I really enjoyed the whole thing, wish it had one more issue.

Picked up 100 Bullets vol. 13 and everything was great as usual until the last four or five issues. #100 has to be one of the most disappointing comics I've read in my life.

I also picked up The Boys vol. 4. Another great volume.

Oh, I read Lock & Key last weekend. Really, really good. It's got a really palpable air of tension and fear throughout the story because the people are characterized so well. You never get the sense that they're in any way caricaturized comic badasses or anything. Everyone is plausibly vulnerable, their actions take heavy tolls on them, and the story is both subdued and cathartic while still leaving room for the supernatural and fantasy elements. Mysteries abound, even by the end of the book, but the narrative is definitely not unsatisfying--rather, Joe Hill gives you a full story that has a logical beginning, middle, and end but leaves just enough to keep you hooked so you'll come back for the sequel.

The artist (whose name I unfortunately can't remember right now) also does a great job. His style is a little too exaggerated for my tastes to fit the tone as well as it might have during the story's more creepy or visceral moments, but overall it works well and brings an undeniable likability and humor to the characters. He's also a great storyteller.

HULK (Loeb) Vol 2 TPB
oh man... Lady Liberators was a meh issue... Life and Death of Abom was good i guess... Rulk itself stinks pretty much... Love ms marvel's appearance... man...

Read Wolverine:Weapon X and it made me even more disappointed with the movie. While the Miller mini is still my favorite Wolvie story Weapon X was a great and engaging read.It was really brutal and I loved it.I love how it questions who the real animal is Logan or those who torture him? While I thought the ending was lacking a little it's still a great read.

Finished the first volume of Promethea. Very strong imaginative stuff going on here, I love some of the way the panels and art is. I'll be picking up the rest of the volumes, I just hope I can find a deal as good as I did for this volume.

Also, the Weeping Gorilla is awesome

Yeah, I really enjoyed the first Locke & Key series. The second series, Head Games, I wasn't too fond of at first. It just kind of goes in a different direction then the first series it felt to me. When all was said and done though it was quite good and I consider it as good as the first. Looking forward to seeing how the third arc goes

One issue in....so far, fantastic. A lot of fun, great dialogue, simple but beautiful art.
I love the whole "crime drama" setting combined with superheroes.
Can't wait to continut reading it...and get the rest of the books as well.

Just finished this and I loved it, love the artwork...

Yeah, Oeming's great. His solo stuff is pretty good as well. Like Hammer of the Gods.

Just read through the two The Stand adaptations that Marvel put out and I am HOOKED. I'm an avid trade reader and I'm just itching to read the rest of it. It was so good I even got the book (haven't started it yet) and found a user on youtube that uploaded the entire miniseries, I think I'll dive in completely during spring break.
