I beg to differ...I saw ROTF on a sunday early afternoon and watched SM3 later that day...had lots more fun watching ROTF....I cant watch SM3 past the parade, it just gets stupid after that

It is a masterpiece compared to ROTF.
i disagree. spiderman 3 wants to be serious but fails on every level. it has some campy scenes that didnt fit in the spiderman franchise. at least Bay said ''f... it'' .

is Bay a better directoro then Raimi? no.
is Raimi more inteligent? i think he is

but when it comes to spideman 3 i was in pain when i watched the movie.

With ROTF at least I knew what I was getting into. I expected a really dumb CGI extrabaganza. With SM3 I was expecting so much more. That trailer where they revealed VENOM! had me super duper pumped. Then the movie came out and it was the dumbest, sappiest, kind friendliest, chick flick that I had ever seen.

No, ROTF may have many fualts but it is nowhere near the epic fail of Spider-Man 3.

In my opinion at least.

Spider-Man 3 remains as the most disappointing superhero films I have ever seen. After Spider-Man 2 the crap I saw in SM3 was unacceptable.

You wouldn't believe how hyped up I was for this movie to find myself cringing and frowning throughout the entire movie. Especially the "bad" (incredibly dorky and flat out stupid) dancing Peter Parker.

Ugh. I don't even like remembering SM3...... :csad:

:pal: It's kinda like that episode of SouthPark where they're all in denial after having watched Indy 4.

Sm3 is probably the only SM movie I will NEVER watch again. That movie was kinda embarasing (sp) to watch. I felt like I got tricked into watching a movie made by seventh graders

Spidey 3 was indeed a big disappointment. I remember that I pissed off a lot of my fellow Spidey fans by stating that I thought the 2007 TF movie was more entertaining and satisfying in the theater than SM3 had been. And this was after I had been bashing Michael Bay's vision of Transformers for a while.

But that being said, ROTF is overall worse than TF or Spider-Man 3.

The movie has already made 600 million dollars at the boxoffice, I'm seeing 900+mil total. The studio has a tremedously successful franchise with the dumb humor and incoherent action scenes I'm shocked that anybody would believe that they will listen to the complaints and change things...unless the movie is far less successful than the first on DVD. Not bloody likely IMHO.

I wonder about the DVD sales. Sure, this movie is fun to watch in the theater, but how many people will care to watch this in their living room? Too many, probably.

The studios aren’t going to listen to complaints; they only care about the money. As for Bay and the writers, I don’t know. I’ve read somewhere that Bay was *****ing about critics judging the movie before they’ve seen it because it was directed by him. I think it might actually start bothering him that he isn’t considered a serious director. As for the writers, supposedly they are fans of Transformers. If I was a writer, I’d be upset if after all the effort I put into writing a story, everybody’s biggest complaint, fans and critics alike, was that the story was absolute crap. Yeah, this movie is making a lot of money, but Bay and the writers are human, and artists, and I’m holding out hope that they just might want to prove that they aren’t just over-glorified hacks. But, I might just be overly optimistic.

Much like when the first made a ton o' cash, dissatisfied fans on the net started asking AND expecting a deeper, less comedic sequel, and obviously no one listened. Now I see it on several forums, people expecting Bay and CO. to listen to the reviews and "fix" the next one. They won't, so don't expect it. The formula is sound, and has been proven TWICE. So three times the Bayhem and sewer humor next one.

Even with the first movie, most reviews I remember were pretty positive, even among critics. I’m surprised this movie is doing so well compared to the amount of negativity I see concerning it. This formula may have been proven twice, but it’s been my experience that the third in a trilogy is usually the big bomb, so TF3 might actually tank regardless of what they do.

It's kinda like that episode of SouthPark where they're all in denial after having watched Indy 4.

That’s funny, because after coming out of RotF, my first thought was the episode of South Park with Michael Bay:

Guy: “Michael, that’s not a story, those are just special effects”
Bay: “I don’t get what you’re saying”
Guy: “I know you don’t, Michael”

I was thinking about this the other day. Spiderman 3, Batman Forever, Daredevil, all these movies are generally considered crap around here. What makes RotF different? I’m not talking about money made, because I’m sure someone will use that as why it’s better, I’m talking about overall quality of the product. I just don’t understand why some people think RotF is better?

It's called having an opinion. Just because some instantly view something as crap doesn't mean others has to as well.

I know that. I was looking for an answer with a little more depth.

Yeah. To me personally ROTF was crap, but it was expected crap you know. Compared to the first one it sucks but for the most part it was simply more of the same on a larger, dumber, more cleavage-ridden scale.

Those other movies that you mentioned ["Spider-man 3", "Batman and Robin" (I think that's what you meant since "Batman Forever" - as corny as it was - isn't dogged on as much), and "Daredevil"] well as sad as it is to think about people actually had high hopes for those going in.

"Daredevil" was the first Daredevil movie and it came out after successful X-Men and Spidey movies. "Spidey 3" had high hopes because the first two were good and this one promised VENOM. And the worst comic movie ever "Batman and Robin" was actually expected to be somewhat decent. Sure "Batman Forever" was kinda weak before it so "Batman and Robin" was expected to be kinda stupid but no one expected what we got: "Batman on Ice".

Here's a quick example to show why you can label some movies "worse" than others (even though in all honesty they're equally as bad) simply based on expectation.

Ask any comic fan "what's the worst comic book movie of all-time?" For the most part you'll get answers like "Daredevil", "Spidey 3", "Batman & Robin", "Fantastic Four", and maybe "Superman Returns".

But really there have been much worse "movies" than these. How bout "Howard the Duck"? That wasn't even a god awful movie, it was just god awful. But you won't hear many people respond to your question with that. Because first of all it's an old movie and not many people watched it, but second of all was anybody even expecting anything from that one. How about "The Shadow", "Barbwire", "Catwoman", "The Phantom", "Tank Girl", "Supergirl", or "Steel". Anyone of those movies could be labeled worse but really who had any hopes for those movies at all? Probably no one.

Meanwhile "Spidey 3", "Batman and Robin", "Daredevil", the first "Fantastic Four", "Ghost Rider", and "Superman Returns" had our expectations somewhat high going in and failed miserably. For that reason you're more likely to hear one of those as the answer to the "worst comic movie ever".

"Superman Returns" is a great example. It gets dogged on constantly and really it wasn't that bad. (I feel like Butters now "It thought it was kinda good"), but it's just that people expected so much more.

Superman Return is a bad example if you are trying to make a case. That movie was a soap opera with no action that didn't please enough people to warrant a sequel. It should of cleared 350 million easily cause people had waited 25 years for a new Superman movie. Instead there was almost no buzz at the end of the movie. Despite the negative reviews of TF2, at least it had buzz.

I agree I think people were expecting to have this awesome movie and it didnt deliver. I like SR and the plane scene is one of the best superhero intro scenes in any movie but I think that the movie didnt live to the expectations.

SM3 was great. I could've done without the dancing scenes, but I really liked it otherwise. SR suffered from a lack of, well, "Superman-ness".

Unbelievable!!! Simply un-be-lievable!!!

In the words of Borat: "Wow Wow Wee Wow". It looks like ROTF's records are going to fall very soon. Hell, it looks like TDK's records are in danger.

The boy wizard becomes the Box-Office king once again. Remember HP1's $90 million OW was the biggest ever at the time. It greatly surpassed The Lost World's $72 million OW records. Potter reigned as champ until Spider-Man put up $114 million.

Why anyone would think Harry Potter wasn't going to be huge bewilders me. Harry Potter will be the biggest and best movie of the summer.

It sure is looking that way. I'll find out in three hours although I doubt I'll be disappointed.

Yeah I'm sure we all knew Potter would be a huge success for WB (especially overseas) but I personally did not think it could put up numbers that surpassed TDK. It may be a little more front-loaded than TDK but at this point I don't see it making any less than $220 million after 5 days, and maybe even $500 million when all is said and done. I mean who woulda thought that TF 2's Wednesday opening records wouldn't even last one month?

BO records are window dressing and more bragging rights for the studio than anything else...its not like they come and take the money away or anything...TF2 has still made bank

Nobody is arguing that. Definately TF2 has already made Paramount a good profit. However this is a Box-Office thread though so I would imagine that the records do mean a little something to the people on here.

Also funny thing is that HP6 is released so close to TF2 that I would imagine that a bigger success for HP6 will consequently mean a steady decline for TF2. Especially overseas. Domestically I'm sure Paramount expected it to fall short of $400 million but now overseas it is under attack by Potter. $400 million overseas is nothing to frown about but think of all the money that Potter is seazing from it. I'm sure Paramount would've liked it to reach $900 million worldwide but now it may not anymore.

Still like I said $800 million is nothing to frown about.

who didnt think it wasnt going to be big. I hate the HP stuff and I knew it was gonna be big

Hold on there miggizle85. $500 million is a far bigger feat than your giving it credit for. Even $400 million is an elusive club. After a strong start, ROTF might even fall short of that. HP is a front loaded franchise. Hopefully with HP6 it'll have the legs to finally cross the $300+ million mark DOM. You also have to keep in mind HP had more anticipation and demand built up from the delay. I find HP6's midnight gross astonishing because it did so without IMAX. There is no question this film will be a monster overseas. As far as TDK's records go, yes they have the potential to be broken by some future film. At this point I wouldn't say it's major ones are in any real "danger". That's a bit a of stretch. That was an amazing box office run that film had. It's records shouldn't be taken too lightly.
