According to the information Disney released, it sounds like Leto is playing Ares.
Maybe the movie will change my mind, but I have no interest in a sequel where the Flynns, Tron, Alan, and Quorra are not involved.
I just don't get why we waited 15 years and this is the direction they are going? Also, Tron Legacy was a box office disappointment as well, so much so that they dragged their feet for years on Tron 3 and ultimately decided not to go forward with a sequel.
Sean Bailey I think was President of Production of Disney as well when Tron Legacy got released, so I think he has a soft spot for this franchise. I guess Iger was willing to give it another shot with a different cast, team.Yeah I don’t get that either. A Tron movie being a hit is a massive long shot even when you have Jeff Bridges involved so I don’t know why they think Morbius is going to knock it out of the park.
The premise also doesn’t sound that interesting. Part of what makes Tron cool and unique is the dark, neon-lit world where it takes place. I had issues with Legacy but world of the Grid looked amazing. Basing the whole movie about a rogue AI program running around the real world just seems pretty boring. I get that everyone is afraid of AI right now but it sounds like a dozen other sci-fi movies we’ve already seen.
Leto must have some dirt on producers, even in Disney, I guess.
Tron: Ares follows a highly sophisticated Program, Ares, who is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, marking humankind’s first encounter with A.I. beings.
Look, I think at this point, Disney will take Tron Legacy’s box office as long as they keep the budget down. 400M worldwide and 172M domestic in 2010 dollars doesn’t sound so bad anymore. Especially for a franchise that was dead for 30 years.
