that would have been cool but how many people would complain that its was just 'Gladiator in a computer' like Avatar is 'Dances with Wolves with aliens'?

Yeah but "Gladiator in a computer" would be better than the reception of the current storyline. And I didn't care about Avatar being Dances with Wolves/Pocahontas with aliens. Also Avatar laughed its way to the bank (and awards shows) with that criticism.

^Something that Tron isn't going to do. It's getting a boost because of the holidays but after that...Yeah, the movie actually made me look at Avatar a little differently. I mean, I still don't like it but atleast it was mostly professional.

To be honest, I feel the same way 'I See Spidey'.

I'm not a huge Avatar fan, but after Tron Legacy, now I appreciate some of the elements that made Avatar work as a film.

I'm not trying to pile on the man or say that he's never going to become a good director but Joseph Konsinski should not have been the director of a 200million dollar SFX movie. It was total amateur hour and I think that the screenplay was the worst of the year by a big budget movie. James Cameron knows how to direct a movie, even when I don't care for one of his movies I usually have mostly positive comments about his direction.

I agree. Avatar's screenplay was much more well rounded and had better characterization/development. Tron Legacy had mostly shells of characters and didn't allow them to be anything more. Thus, it was hard to get sucked into the story. With Avatar, it was much easier to connect with the characters, even if I like the overall subtext and themes Tron Legacy was trying to achieve more than Avatar's themes.

I think one think Mr. Konsinski needs to work on is pacing.

For example, when Clu 2.0 broke into Flynn's hideout (looks at the apple, flash, gets mad), the scene just meanders. I understand how Clu looking at the apple and seeing his reflection is 'symbolic' but it could have been filmed better and tighter. Instead of wasting 3 minutes, it could have been a 30 second scene.

So because THAT scene was so slow, there's NO sense of URGENCY OR TENSION, which is one of problems of the film.

Granted, I did end up enjoying Tron Legacy, but stuff like that is, like what you said, is pretty much amateur hour level of work.

Theres a point in the movie where it's said that the portal out of The Grid will close in 8 hours and nobody seems to be rushing to get to it. The movie just grinds to a halt at a certain point. You hit the nail on the head with the "No sense of Urgency or Tension" comment.

In basic screenwriting, they teach you about the 'ticking time bomb', which moves the story forward, and I guess that was ignored (somewhat) here.

I think the movie was decent 7/10, but what really bothers me is the missed opportunities.

The story couldve been so much better. They couldve made it like a high tech gladiator film about Sam rising through various "games" until he discovers the truth about his father. Because the games, even though I loved them, really didnt serve a purpose in the grand scheme of the film and it would have been cool to see more of them especially if they were more intertwined with the plot.
or (and this is what I thought the movie was actually going to be about) it couldve been about a resistance force against Clu, which it was to an extent but it couldve been so much larger in scale. And yeah that angle has been used so many times, but it still couldve been better than the 3 man resistance that was in the film

Those are 2 undeveloped ideas I just came up with, my point is that the story couldve been so much better and this film just comes off as wasted potential the more I think about it which really sucks because it had a great cast.

This is one of those movies that I would love to see a sequel to with different writers, but probably wont see it

these are very cool ideas. i felt the same way, about the missed opportunities. the games were explained in the original (whether you buy it or not is another story, but at least it was attempted). unless i missed it, the games felt pointless here. especially why would CLU send his right hand mane (tron) as a participant. another missed opportunity was sam as a user using the grid to his full potential. one of the cool things about the original tron was that kevin flynn was different from other programs because he wasn't limited by the world. since sam flynn was a hacker too, it would have been cool if he took advantage of it too.

which led me to what i thought was going to be the story. i thought it would have been cooler had kevin actually become the villian of the movie. one of the things they showed in the original was how powerful he could become. it wouldn't be out of reach for him to want to stay in that world because he was a supreme being there. and alan, knowing about the grid, would ask sam to go in to get rid of a program (not knowing it was kevin), and sam would take down Flynn with the help of TRON and CLU even. the story parallels the original very much. (Sam = Kevin, TRON = TRON, Kevin = MasterControl). i feel that is the proper way to reboot and serve as a sequel. I watched the original before going to this one, and i feel that i would have been lost had i not, which is not how they sold it.

Just saw the Movie, 10/10 from it's perfect!

Visually, story and Chaarcters were SICK! I loved it, I can't find a flaw with the film EXCEPT maybe that they didn't re-render Wendy Carlos' theme but it'll do.

The scene about the ISOS was SICK!

The bit where tron says "I fight for the Users!" WAS SICKK Nothing's given me chills down my spine movie wise, not even Avatar and that's my Number 1 film!

I love the fact that Joesph Kosinski directed this too because his style showed clearly and I loved it, his architecture background can be scene and the pacing was cool, none of this "Attention Deficit" filmography that has taken over hollywwood.

Really cool how the love develops aswell, nice bit of romance without being cliche, like I said 10/10.

P.S. SO many references! I'm getting this Bluray day 1!

michael sheen was totally the TAS version of Joker. he even sounded like him at parts

But, he was kind of unnecessary. They easily could have cut him out of the film. He was entertaining, but kind of a WTF when you examine what was going on in the film around that particular sequence.

haha...yeah i can kind of see that. he definately had the David Bowie "Ziggy Stardust" look though.

haha, I thought the same thing that Michael Sheen looked like David Bowie in the bar scene.

I loved the film...the special effects were great even though the cgi younger version of bridges was so-so....mouth movement was way off....and the story could have been a little better.....and didnt like the daft punk cameo

...All of which is VERY confusing if the last movie you've watched is "The Queen"

This was very noticeable too. So many people have criticized that the black reflective gloss for the entire world was cool for a second but got tiring the next? Some have also called the world somewhat lacking in landscape architecture creativity?

Thats so ridiculous. I'd like for anyone to look at a good architects concept art and they'll see the use of repetition with symmetrical designs that compliment each other.

The only thing I've found tiring about this movie are the criticisms that are all so damn reaching.

I'm not going to use specific examples (there is at least one or two in each page of the Legacy thread) as I don't want to start an argument or undermine someone else's opinion but these "critiques" when it comes to a lot of aspects of the film could be applied to so many movies that I love but have gotten a ton of love from both the GA and critics that its ridiculous.

Legacy's reception will always be a mystery to me as there have been films that have been accepted by both movie goers and critics alike that have way more editing, structural, and plot issues along with serious acting problems or lack of vision but for some reason they get a "pass" or people decide that that certain director meant to do that for a certain reason or leaving certain plot details vague and fans calling it "masterful and genius".

Don't know if people think they are entitled to almost **** on the movie because this is Kosinski first film but let me tell you it sure seems that way as people are giving a man with so much talent "tips" its just too hilarious, he doesn't need to read my BS praise or others BS criticism but just needs self refinement and mainly a better script. There's only so much he can do with pacing when he is handed with a fairly barebones script. That was his main gripe about the entire production, he said he'd rather have a completed screenplay the next go around instead of writing it while filming.

I really hope he doesn't listen to the criticisms but rather he himself find what he personally found dragged down certain parts of the film (which are mainly script attributed). Not all these petty excuses for "critiques".

Sorry had to get that out.

The move was great entertainment, but I hope it does not win Oscar for SFX beacuse both Inception and Alice in Wonderland (and I don't like Alice) had better CG.

I liked it. It has it's flaws but so did the original and I like it just fine.

It's amazing.Daft Punk outdid themselves. It just sucks if you wnat all the songs you have to get some from Amazon,Itunes, etc. They should have just released at least a special edition with all the tracks. One of the best songs Castor isn't even on the U.S. release CD.
