I think the movie was decent 7/10, but what really bothers me is the missed opportunities.

The story couldve been so much better. They couldve made it like a high tech gladiator film about Sam rising through various "games" until he discovers the truth about his father. Because the games, even though I loved them, really didnt serve a purpose in the grand scheme of the film and it would have been cool to see more of them especially if they were more intertwined with the plot.
or (and this is what I thought the movie was actually going to be about) it couldve been about a resistance force against Clu, which it was to an extent but it couldve been so much larger in scale. And yeah that angle has been used so many times, but it still couldve been better than the 3 man resistance that was in the film

Those are 2 undeveloped ideas I just came up with, my point is that the story couldve been so much better and this film just comes off as wasted potential the more I think about it which really sucks because it had a great cast.

This is one of those movies that I would love to see a sequel to with different writers, but probably wont see it

Actually, the original version of the Script had a major Subplot about two programs, Bartik and Shaddox, who united all the Grid's factions to confront CLU and stop him from rectifying programs into soldiers of the Black Guard. The scene on the End of Line Club, by example, was originally a meeting between the leaders of said factions. They are all betrayed by Castor. Sam's presence is a lucky coincidence. However, this would have called for a 2h50min movie which Joseph Kosinski had neither the time nor the money to do.

that would have been cool but how many people would complain that its was just 'Gladiator in a computer' like Avatar is 'Dances with Wolves with aliens'?

Wonderful. I really wanted to see TRON again, and what am I told when I go to book tickets? They aren't showing it in 2D anymore. I have no interest in 3D, and I don't want to go to the cinema to watch any film in 3D. All I wanted to do was see this film in 2D again, relax and enjoy myself and I can't even do that? That's just great.

Reminds me of a trailer I saw before the film, claiming one film would be 2D in selected cinemas. Guess I won't be seeing that either.

I hated this fricking movie so much. So much. The happiest moment of it for me was when Zeus died. What a slap in the face of the original TRON.

I'm trying to work that one out myself, DB - just how is Tron Legacy 'a slap in the face of Tron'?

I'd start with the fact that it's entirely about being flashy and glittery and has absolutely no substance at all. Or the fact that the plot makes no fricking sense. Or the fact that the best part of the film was Daft Punk's soundtrack. Yes, I am a fan of the first movie. Yes, I hated Legacy. Yes, that's allowed.

Well, that's entirely subjective but what I can tell you is that you can see from this thread that there are fans of the original (just like yourself) who like this movie, despite any flaws it may have.

I, for one, certainly dont see it as 'a slap in the face to the original'.

Well, there's nothing wrong with liking it. Like I said, Daft Punk rocked the film and I would certainly watch it again just to listen to their music.

and the first movie ................. :wow:

Did have substance. It created a new, believable world that challenged or reinvented one's notions about cyberspace and technology and it was cultural and relevant. All of which are things that good science-fiction does. At least that's how I see it. And the plot did make sense. And I did like it.

Blackman had a couple of points above that I agree could have made Legacy much better, but I also really think they didn't fully tap into the potential of what this film could have been.

because tron is hardly in it.

imagine if spider-man turned up for 10 minutes and disappeared in a 'SPIDER-MAN' movie.

anyone know when the original tron is due out on blu ray?

But Tron really wasn't the main character in the first film either. He certainly had a bigger role, but it's still Flynn's story.

lol, never underestimate the Hype's ability to f**k up when making a post.

Yeah, heh - the s***ty server lag and double posting is practially a SHH institution now. :D

Just saw the film. I think 7/10 is what I give it. It was good and I enjoyed. Funny seeing two Batman Begins actors Cillian Murphy and Christine Adams in the movie.

Still way better than stuff like Transformers movies.

I really dont get the hate for this film, it was a really well done film. Not to mention it looked magnificent when i saw it in Imax 3D (thanks to suggestions on this thread). I think the film as a whole gets the job done as i feel this film was meant as a introduction to a new generation of Tron. Create a new fan base with this new stuff but keeping the original Tron lovers satisfied. When i went to go see this film there were older people that were fans of the originals and then you had teens and little kids. So it gets the job done in that respect by creating a new fan base along side the old fan base.

Visually this movie is amazing, on par with Avatar on practically every level and perhaps even beat out avatar in some respects. The cgi looks fabulous and i could never really distinguish what was a set piece and what was computer generated. Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde did a fantastic job in this film and i loved how the characters developed really well by the end of the film, especially the last scene of the film which imo speaks volumes in how both of have grown from beginning to end. Lets not forget the scene near the end where Flynn and Clue are face to face, that scene was really well done. The film in general was thoroughly entertaining and i was constantly wowed by the grid, and imo gets the job done introducing a next gen Tron, sequel anyone? I'll give this film a 8.5/ 10 but because the daft punk score was so epic, not to mention daft punks cameo ill finally and officially give it a 9/10.
