Why, because they're stuck-to-the-formula JRPGs with decade-old gameplay, identical art design, the exact same story and absolutely nothing worth mentioning in between CGI scenes and boss battles?Topdawg said:what Zenien was saying was true, the ps2 does have better games.
even most xbox gamers know that.

The Xbox's bigger games have been highly interactive, powerhouse campaigns with primarily unique plots, interesting characters, and have spanned genres that have actually evolved since the NES.
Manny Calavera said:PS2 had more games, that's true, but the Xbox and the Gamecube had, by far, more fun games than the PS2. At the end of the day, when you are looking at fun experiences you can have on a ps2 but not an xbox with better graphics, sound, etc, what do you have? Metal Gear Solid 3...Sly Cooper...Gran Turismo...that's pretty much it. Everything else is a barely interactive movie like Final Fantasy, or a laughing stock like Killzone. PS2 games, like the hardware itself, almost always turned out to be a lot of hype, but with a terrible final product that gets sold on name and hype alone.

) are what a good console make. What else does it offer that no other console offered, that a sane person would actually want to play? There's MGS3, there's Gran Turismo, Sly Cooper, and if you've not played an RPG that doesn't suck in a long time you might be able to play Final Fantasy games, but I doubt it. PS2 just didn't offer much else but hype and ****ty productsZenien said:I feel sorry for someone who can't enjoy the PS2 when it offers them so much more then those 3 games.![]()
And here you are, acting like all the Xbox was, was a FPS console. Ninja Gaiden, Otogi, even showed that the Xbox had action-adventures that could take on (and best) those on the PS2, like Devil May Cry and God of War. Thief, Shenmue 2, Fable (I don't care what you say, that was a quality adventure game through and through) and many others, and I could list them, were superbly crafted Adventure/RPG games. KotOR, Morrowind, Arx Fatalis, Deus Ex and a handful of others were brilliant RPGs that were just better than what you'd get from Squaresoft.Zenien said:Ugh ok, let's troll this in, starting..now:
My original post was designed to entice flames, but it's clear you have zero understanding of the games that are on the PS2, if you define the PS2 by just JRPGs. "Like, omg, look at our blockbuster games!", Halo, Riddick, etc, does not a better console make, when the Xbox can muster the same amazing variaty of high quality content across the board that the PS2 can (Read: Never) I'll say it's the better console.
The PS2 definitely earned it's place, I'm just saying the Xbox had more where it counted. That's not to say that the Xbox isn't a good console because it IS, but the PS2 earned its place this generation. PS3... we'll see.
Gamecube, as far as I care, can burn in hell. Resident Evil 4 was the best thing that ever happened to it, and it's on the PS2 and about to be on the PC.The only things the Gamecube has are Wind Waker (which sucks imo), SSBM, and Metroid, and I LOVE Metroid to death, but I wouldn't say the Gamecube has more fun games then the PS2. (and being that RE4 and Viewtiful Joe are on the PS2, I didn't list them as Gamecube things)

Windwaker, Mario, and all the games with "Mario" in the title (Kart, Golf, Tennis, etc...), sucked, if I can say so. So did Metroid, but you have anti-FPS syndrome.

Maybe that came out a little strong. I simply feel that the Gamecube is one of the worst consoles since the Sega Saturn, especially since it died two years ago. It was no surprise to see Nintendo's marketshare so low this generation.Extromaniac said:Don't have quite as much of the anti-GC fervor as you do.. but, you took the words from my mouth.![]()
Xbox has plenty of titles that the PS2 could never achieve. And anyone who cites 'PS2 is teh greatz!!1one" because of FF, one of it's pansy emo JRPGs, KH (though, it was a good game), KZ (definitely laughable), MGS, or near any of their other 'blockbuster games' has no idea what makes a console great.![]()
In the same way the Gamecube was: Great stuff, but not enough. There was Nights into Dreams, Panzer Dragoon or whatever... but in the end, it just didn't have what it needed to hold interest. I mean, I actually forgot the thing existed by the time the N64 rolled in. I was surprised when Sega made the Dreamcast (which I actually love).Manny Calavera said:Sega Saturn was an awesome console, games wise.
That game suckedXwolverineX said:Xbox and PS2 both had great lineups, GameCube had a ****ty one. It's simple. The Xbox rules with RPG's, actually. Kotor, Jade Empire, Fable, Morrowind, all kickass games. Add in Halo, Ninja Gaiden, Riddick, DOA3 and more, but I forget, live with it.
PS2 was kickass also: Devil May Cry, Kingdom Hearts (Omfg, best series eva) Metal Gear Solid, FFX, Tekken, Socom, God of War, Guitar Hero, Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank, etc..

NES ~ 70 million.
SNES ~ 50 million.
N64 ~ 30 million.
Gamecube ~ 15 million.
Nintendo was on a downward slope since they started, losing mass appeal every generation, sometimes by 50%, making the same mistakes again and again. Now they're messing around with the Wii, which I really don't see being the hit everyone online seems it to be expecting it to be, considering the thing that makes it unique isn't that interesting and also the thing that keeps playtime down to 15 minutes.
But still, it's very far behind the N64, meaning that Nintendo did something wrong between the two generations.GoldenAgeHero said:GC has sold 22 million units and counting. not much. just correcting you.
