Age of Ultron Ultron! We Would Have Words With Thee! Official Thor/Chris Hemworth Thread - Part 1

So, I'm kind of late on my MCU rewatch, considering I'll be sitting in the cinema watching AoU on Friday, 16:15 GMT :D Wondering if I should watch Thor: The Dark World, or just The Winter Soldier. Kind of leaning towards skipping it, was NOT a big fan.

Back from my two viewings and Thor is very well represented in this movie. His character is written well, he's very powerful and also has some cool team up moves. From my point of view no one should have to worry that he's used poorly in the movie.
Glad to hear that. Not the biggest Thor fan compared to Captain America or Spider-Man, but I was hoping he'd be more of a god like in the comics rather than just an alien with a hammer :D

if he is powerful as he is supposed to be then I think I will be very happy. He did not seem as powerful as he should be in TDW. I hope he has a very good representation of his power in this film. That is the one thing that I was worried about.

Mind giving any details bro?

Sure.

In these tags there will be spoilers about some of Thor's deeds/scenes in the movie. Includes some Vision spoilers. Don't read if you want to go in with fresh eyes on these subjects.

For starters he has a more dynamic fighting style. He jumps and flies around more than before. He smashes things with his hands and feet, not only with Mjolnir. He uses some lightning, but to a lesser extent.

He's clearly a top dog of the Avengers where he smacks pretty much everything but Ultron, and never really seems to be in physical danger. He apparently kicks enough ass for Ultron to get pissed at him and single him out.

He has a couple of great teamwork moves with Cap. One we've seen in the trailer, the other one is cooler. They also have a cool civilian rescue scene together.

Vision can use Thor's hammer but while I've felt that they could have saved it for Cap I didn't have any problems with it. It happens twice but it's never diminishing to Thor. Vision clearly has lots of respect for Thor and he's the reason Vision chooses to have a cape. Thor is an important part of Vision joining the team. They also don't fight in the movie, Vision just flies at Thor at one point and Thor grabs him and throws him across the Avengers tower.

Thor destroys something with a lightning hammer strike at the end, which is a monstrous special effect.

So he blows up an island?!

:woot:

Glad to see Thor finally getting the respect he deserves!

Thanks.

Thank you Mjölnir. First time poster here…so sorry in advance if I'm not doing this correctly. I had a question. Thanks again.

Vision just flies at Thor at one point and Thor grabs him and throws him across the Avengers tower

So Thor actually throws Vision? I only ask because in the spoiler thread someone posted Vision threw Thor into a wall.

Thor destroys something with a lightning hammer strike at the end, which is a monstrous special effect.
That sounds awesome! Like the lightning hammer strike from the first Thor movie…a GodStrike !

Hey. Welcome to the forums (as a poster)! :)

No, Vision never lands any attack on Thor. Thor is sent flying when Vision bursts out of the container in which he's created, but that's just Vision getting out, not making an attack.

Yeah, it's kind of like that. But a much larger effect as he's hitting something with a lot of energy. :)

For all that Kenneth Branagh gets dismissed as not having a handle on the action parts of Thor, I still think that first big fight scene for Thor in Jotenheim was the most impressive of all. I loved the Iron Man/Thor fight in Avengers, but nothing has beaten that first fight for the wow factor. And that's a shame.

Part of the problem is that no matter how many bad guys Thor is swatting off in his fights, all the other Avengers are equally able to do the same, even the ones without any superpowers. He might use a steel girder while they use another less heavy weapon, or magic, or speed, but the outcome is still the same.

And unfortunately most scenes that involves flying are allocated to Iron Man.

I really hope they can work out how to make Thor do something with the wow factor again.

Is the island Thor destroys a big moment where Thor saves the day and really stands out like Tony did when he saved NYC from the nuke?

Not sure if my question was actually in reply to you, I'm new to this site

Oh yes, it's the huge climactic moment to stop total devastation. It's Stark and Thor doing it together. Stark's plan and he's providing energy as well from a different spot, but Thor is apparently the big power needed to destroy it.

Time for me to get some sleep. I'll be back tomorrow to answer more questions, should anyone have them.

well from not clicking on the spoilers sounds like overall Thor gets represented pretty good and is not a punching bag for anyone. I hope all thats true

Totally agree on this. You could just tell that Branagh was a knowledgeable fan of the character. If I remember correctly he approached Marvel about directing Thor because he loved the character and read the comics as a boy.

A few things I love about Thor from the first movie:
- the spinning hammer attack (thats how Thor should be shown in melee with multiple opponents

- the massive lighting charged hammer strike ( the lighting/ power charge seemed to amp up Mjolnir's striking force - a godstrike

- standing in the sky and creating a tornado - its a subtle thing, but imo having Thor stand in the sky just makes him seem more powerful - as opposed to holding onto a building in the first Avengers movie. And lets not forget the tornado!

Imagine if in that first Avengers movie when Thor went up in the sky, he stood there and dark ominous storm clouds began to swirl around him with flashes of lightning and booming thunder finally revealing multiple tornados .

Thats the wow factor I'm looking for :yay:

Based on performances alone, it definitely felt like all of the cast were more invested in their performances when working with Kenneth as their Director.

Heck, the biggest reasons why Natalie and Anthony signed on was because of the fact that Kenneth was attached as the film's director.

So true.

I loved Anthony Hopkins performance. That banishment scene…when he rips off the emblem and yells at Thor "You're unworthy!" His face is visibly angry, but there's also a look of hurt and disappointment in his eye :cwink: and voice.

I've watched the movie. Don't worry. I don't have problem with his character in the movie. In fact, I really like him here. One of the funniest characters.

There's one minor problem with his story but it's not because of his character

Without spoiling yes, he does get his due this time

That's what he uses to destroy the floating portion of Skovia. It was awesome.

thor is very funny in this! he also gets the hulk one shotting the leviathan moment in this film! also I don't believe this is a spoiler but at one point he flies holding a car! which is a feat of strength yet seen from thor, he also didn't seem to struggle at all!

The "Hulk one shotting the leviathan" scene of this film is
Thor destroying that city right?
