Age of Ultron Ultron! We Would Have Words With Thee! Official Thor/Chris Hemworth Thread - Part 1

I don't recall who said it, BUT, the way it was explained is the Asgardians speak in their OWN tongue, but we as Humans HEAR what ever language we were raised with.

I think it was in the Regin arc in the comics.
I didnt know the difference between Shakespearean and old english.. I knew Shakespeare spoke in a more eloquent wway but alas thanks for the info. Im goin to bunker up now

Where da ryders at

If Thor spoke actual Old English you wouldn't be able to understand him. Well, unless you speak German. I mean even then you wouldn't be able to understand it perfectly but you would have better shot than someone who spoke English.

Shakespearean English is Modern English, it's just an early form that had slightly different syntax and slang. Honestly the biggest problem most people have with EME is that they're reading it, not hearing it, and this was back before there was a really a set way of spelling things. I mean imagine if people wrote phonetically - you would get all sorts of spellings depending on accents and just how a person thinks something sounds. There were a few letters back then that made different sounds and such (for instant, I believe the play title "Much Ado About Nothing" would sound the same back then as "Much Ado About Noting"). So really Thor doesn't speak in EME either as that would totally confuse readers and viewers alike.

Hey did anyone catch he name Thor says when he's talking about where his Asgardian liquor comes from. He says something like:

"It was aged for a thousand years in barrels made from the wreck of __________'s fleet."

Can anyone fill in the blank? It was a two-syllable Norse sounding name. Not a big deal, just curious/for fun.
Wow, not sure myself, I remember that too. I NEED TO see AoU again!!! lol

Well that's the point I am making In another thread, there posters are making out Ultron beat the **** out of Thor, which I just did not see when I watched it.

Tell them people who think Ultron beat the **** out of him

It's pretty hard to laugh and crack jokes after someone beats the s*** out of you.

Thor did both after being attacked by Ultron by the way.

He never actually went down though, Ultron gave him everything yet Thor was virtually unfazed.
I liked how the one Avenger that ticked off [BLACKOUT]Ultron in terms of fighting was Thor[/BLACKOUT]. It showed (or at least implied) that [BLACKOUT]he's[/BLACKOUT] #1 in terms of power on the team.

Tell me about it! I've only seen it once, but my finals end tomorrow so I'm planning to go again on Wednesday!

I might too, I have a few things today to take care of before work myself

Good luck on your finals. Too bad "MCU" isn't a major! :)
I think there IS one, SH lol I KNOW the local college here has a Trade Paper Back Class for Marvel, but I swear there was a class for the MCU somewhere in the states

I really liked how Vision, Thor and Iron Man used their power to try to stop Ultron before Banner's hulk hit him. lol. That was a cool moment.

Another Marvel movie, another hideously underwritten Thor.

Hardly. He actually has a pretty major role in the movie (far bigger than his screentime would suggest) and has some of the funniest moments. In contrast, I think Black Widow (who had far more screentime) was written poorly and thus had less of an impact on screen.

Screentime doesn't always translate into how well a character is portrayed.

The Avengers movies aren't the place to expect any of the characters to have deep character arcs. All the heroes are boiled down to their core essence to let everyone shine. Thor's solo movies, especially TDW, have dropped the ball but that shouldn't be held against the Avengers movies.

TDW dropped the ball, not the first Thor.

But interesting, Thor originally spoke to the norns. That's probably who the woman in the trailer was. But it seems that Thor is taking Silver Surfers role in infinity war

What was Surfer's role in Infinity Wars? I don't quite remember...

He was basically the first hero who knew that Thanos was coming, and his arc was kinda built from that into a typical hero for the Infinity Gaunlet.

Thor appears to be the first hero (cosmic hero, like surfer) who is telling the earth heroes that someone is going to make a play for the inffinity stones.

You're right, I misspoke. I actually just watched Thor again today after a long, long time and it's a lot better than I remembered. Very good movie overall. Nothing Earth-shattering, but I liked it a lot.

What's funny is that Thor had so much presence here than he did in the first Avengers film. He was so much better utilized and he did some badass stuff in this film.

I agree. He was so stoic that he was boring in TA. Whedon utilized him in a much more entertaining way this time around.

I think my fave scene with Thor was the Stan Cameo lol

Thank you seahammer!

Well I finished 'em! :D Treated myself to AOU on Wednesday as a reward, going to see it again this weekend with my brother (who hasn't seen it yet!). Hope your stuff went well Vartha.

Oh and Vartha, is this what you were thinking of? :p : http://comicbook.com/2014/09/21/new-college-course-to-focus-on-marvel-cinematic-universe/

if they adapt the one scene in infinity gauntlet, thor fans will be happy. Thanos says Thor is the biggest threat. Can't give reference because my copy is in another country, but i just read it a few weeks ago
