Surprisingly, it was only last night that the possibility of an MCU connection between Pym and Ultron.
I read some site speculating on the reference to Pym as a "founding member" of the Avengers, finally coming to the big screen.
I had just taken this as a reference to him being a founding member in the comics, and now finally coming to the movies.
They made the lead that Antman would ret-con him into the history of the Avengers somehow, which, although a bit of a leap from the "founding member" description, but one I would have no objection to.
It would certainly tie the film more into the wider MCU, and makes sense with the inclusion of Agent Carter, and Howard Stark in Antman now.
Combined with the already being discussed "long dormant" descriptor in reference to Ultron, I could see Ultron definitely being something Pym had started in the past during whatever his involvement was with Howard, and the SSE/early SHIELD.
It's all very speculative, of course, but none of it would be disruptive to either film, Antman, nor Avengers:AOU, and could easily flow in both, and enhance both films, as well as further tying together the MCU. All of which I really dig and can get behind, IF it ends up being the case.
Wonder if any of that, if a reality, would have been tied to the disagreements leading to Wright's departure. I could see him not wanting to make so many creative changes to compensate Marvel's greater universe, but also, as I said, these changes don't seem like they would really alter these films substantially. That is, it all seems like little tweaks that wouldn't affect the integrity of anything already in motion, while still adding a lot to the grand scheme of things.
Then again, maybe it really altered Wright's vision for/characterization of Pym. Won't really know till someone speaks up on what lead to the split.
Unless they did a horrible job with the re-writes, and Wright's vision for Pym is still present and in conflict with the inclusion of a connection to Ultron.
Man, that's a LOT of speculation, lol.
