Uncharted 4: A Thief's End

there is something that happens that requires quite a bit of work for what we want it to do, and again we would have had to reduce that scope and reduce that ambition to meet that [original] deadline".

So, tough call. Scale back for Nate's send off and hit the original release date, or delay the game, disappoint fans but give him a fitting goodbye. “We were weighing those choices between fans and their expectations," explain Neil. "It was going to disappoint them to push this thing back, but this is the last chapter for Nathan Drake, so let’s give ourselves as much time as possible and go all-out for this series.”

That sucks.:(

I am sad that they're making this his last. I hope another studio can take over and make a few more

god i hope not. if they, the original creators (who's actually not even them it's amy hennig) feel that this game gives him an ending truly conclusive, it should be left alone.

I agree. All good things must come to an end, before they become bad things.

the vita game was gonna be in ndc
“It was definitely under consideration, because we were trying to see how we could collect all of the Uncharted games. But when we went back and looked at what we were trying to do with the Nathan Drake Collection, we realised that those three games – the trilogy – actually provided a particular narrative arc that led into Uncharted 4. We wanted to keep that as a holistic collection for that reason, and Golden Abyss kind of lives a little bit outside of that.” - Arne

I've heard a lot of mixed things about Golden Abyss, too, so it probably doesn't matter much anyway.

If A Thiefs End has a good ending you could always ignore future games if you wanted.

I feel the same way about the Uncharted franchise and Drake as I do about the Tomb Raider franchise and Lara Croft. Don't retire the character at all or make some arbitrary case closed conclusion. Just keep the character alive at the end of each game and always leave the door open for a possible future game. I don't need this franchise wrapped into a perfect bow or some happily ever after thing.

In other news:

Digital Foundry posted their hands-on of the Nathan Drake Collection.

Write up here:http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2015-hands-on-with-uncharted-the-nathan-drake-collection

Video here:

Steady frame-rate, 8x Anisotropic filtering, v-sync enabled even in Uncharted 1, and variable options for motion blur.

Marv I understand what you're saying, but here's a few things with that. Lara croft has had way more games, been through way more generations, way more developers, and has had (2?) reboots. ND has a different type of love for their character, as they don't want to run their series into the ground. They said no to a sequel to golden abyss which sony listened to, which leads me to believe they didn't want golden abyss made in the first place.

And of course it does not matter what they want because Sony's authority on their own property supersedes theirs, but I think even sony now is respecting the wishes of ND. Uc3 was apparently a rush job, but, when ND needed more time for Uc4, Sony allowed a delay instead of forcing them to meet their 2015 deadline.

At the end of the day, I don't really understand why they, or anyone, really cares that much. There's not much in the way of canon between the games outside the relationships of the characters, and to be honest, the characters themselves are pretty archetypal anyway. It's ripe as a series to continue on as a standalone set of adventures. It's not like we've had some kind of story-driven saga that just came to an end or anything like that. Is there even really any story connection between the first three Uncharteds at all? It's been awhile, but I don't recall there being.

In fact, the quality threshold here is quite extraordinary. In a world where many remasters simply bump up resolution and frame-rate and leave it at that, Bluepoint has pushed further, almost blurring the line between remaster and remake. At a basic level, performance and image quality are absolutely on point, but the developer's enhancements go way beyond just that. On top of the improvements brought about by the move to a higher frame-rate, the studio has tweaked the control system so the experience there feels fresh and new. Uncharted: Drake's Fortune benefits the most here, its controls brought more into line with its siblings, but all games in the package feel so much more satisfying to play, thanks in no small part to the reduced input latency.

I wonder if this will make the first game playable again then. Well, I shouldn't say playable, I guess Drake's Fortune is playable, but I remember going back to that after playing 2, and chore would be a nice way of describing that.

it's certainly the one with the most notable treatment. besides the fps i can barely even tell the difference between the old and new versions of the among thieves & drake's deception

The changes were obviously going to have the biggest impact on the oldest game. Definitely interested to see the improvements.

the "original pitch" for uncharted, project big

Before there was Uncharted, there was Project Big.

In 2005 Naughty Dog was a game studio best known for charming, cartoonish action adventures like Crash Bandicoot and Jak and Daxter. But the studio had bigger ambitions, and wanted to create a more sophisticated blockbuster, something with human leads and lots of action. The team toyed with a number of ideas — at one point they even considered a game set in a high-tech underwater station; a few months later BioShock was announced — but ultimately settled on a pulpy action adventure in the vein of Indiana Jones, now widely known as the Uncharted franchise.

The version of Drake featured in the video was based partially on Johnny Knoxville, with a comically emotive face like something in a Dreamworks film. This was ultimately scrapped in favor of the more traditionally handsome look featured in the game. Another key aspect of the character not featured in the video is the voice acting of Nolan North, which has since become synonymous with Nathan Drake. According to Scherr, the studio auditioned somewhere between 20 and 30 actors before they found the right person.

Haha that would have been ****e. Glad they made the changes they did.

Just saw a nice TV Spot on FX for the Uncharted Collection set to Aerosmith's "Sweet Emotion." Has that made its way online?

EDIT: Nevermind, I'm behind. This was it:

I thought this was a pretty good indication.

I think the little devil is there because he is teasing. Druckmann's knows the talk and is playing it up. Honestly, I don't think this is Drake's end. He might be gone for awhile, but A Thief's End is too on the nose. It probably applies to his brother or even Sully.
