Uncharted 4: A Thief's End

Agreed, I was pleasantly surprised by the route they took with Sam.

Also, I've seen a couple of complaints about the chapter where you're exploring that old lady Evelyn's house and its place in the story, and I must say, I really love that chapter and the thematic weight it drops in that moment in time:

It seems like all anyone talks about with that chapter is, "oh, we find out about their mom and where the whole 'Drake' thing came from," but what I got most from that chapter is the poignancy of that Evelyn character. Going through and reading all her letters and stuff, she's like Nate's "Ghost of Christmas Future" - someone who got so caught up in the adventure she ended up forsaking the things that meant the most to her. Her husband left her, still loved her but kept trying to get her to be a more present mother to their son, take him on one of her adventures, etc. And then when she reached old age she had regrets and tried to reach out to her son and grandchild, they wanted nothing to do with her. So she ended up a sick, regretful old lady, dying alone in her deserted mansion full of all the "treasure" she'd collected over the years, which was now just collecting dust. She represented the future Nate was afraid of, and the reason for that "empty feeling" that set in after each adventure.

And I felt it's placement in the story was perfect, right after he found out Sam lied to him and really just wanted to continue the adventure with him, realizing he'd "left his life" for this. It's like that was the moment he realized that fate he'd long feared was in danger of coming true, and was reminded of what the real "treasure" was in his life, what he wanted to hold onto.

The "Drake"/Cassie Morgan reveals were really just icing on the cake in that chapter, imo.
So anyway, I really liked that chapter and found it to be one of the more beautifully sad and poignant moments of the whole game.

Flick I could not agree with you more, so well said  This game seriously was just so well done. The story and the development of the characters. ND really too a big step in story telling and all of that with TLOU and it showed in this game. I think Darth said it way back in this thread and I agree. This game is basically Uncharted 2 (plus the Uncharted series in general) and TLOU had a beautiful baby and it's called A Thief's End. :hrt:

As someone with a a very close relationship with his brother, that chapter hit me right in the feels. I have no problem with this kind of stuff in the game and in fact quite enjoy it. One of the things I don't like about UC3 is the repetitive action set pieces that seem there because they want more "gameplay". I much prefer these storytelling chapters, which feel like they come organically. No random brute fight because we need an action beat here.

This glitch is awesome. Also, spoilers if you haven't finished the 4th chapter yet:

Cool glitch haha but how did that come about? I experienced none with this game.

The only major glitch I experienced was in New Devon during my Crushing playthrough. I accidentally fell behind some trees into some water and fell through the floor of the game and was swimming around in this murky swamp water abyss with this giant sphere beneath me and the game world above me. Had to restart the checkpoint but it didn't happen anywhere else.

That is true. But if it does happen, you will get the usual stuff. Either they downgrade the look, or it runs at 30fps. That is the norm.
the original versions will still be 30fps but there'll probably be like a 60fps options for the Ps4K/scorpio editions

Just picked up Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection from Best Buy.
Thought I would start from the very beginning before playing A Thief's End.

Very good decision, playing the trilogy adds more weight and impact to the story and outcome of Uncharted 4. Enjoy

It's a bit more slow-paced than I'm used to,
but it's refreshing in the same breath. It has been a
long time since I've played a game like this and I
am enjoying it.

I started the game the other night, loved playing in Nate's normal life as a salvage worker and at home just to get into the feel of where he's at these days.

The story so far is classic fun adventure stuff and the set pieces and graphics are superb, as is the banter between Nate, Sam and Sully.

I just escaped the mountain in Scotland and I'm starting the level in Madagascar where I'm driving a Jeep. :D

I think the only thing the game was missing for me was a small nod to the supernatural. I'm totally fine there wasnt a crazy twist but i wouldn't have minded a very subtle supernatural presence like Avery and Tews ghost showing up, or hearing the screams of the dead pirates and soldiers at libertalia.

What does everyone think of this compared to the other games? Where does it rank? I won't be playing till I get a free weekend to go over to my mate's house.

Played the Madagascar section last night! :hmr: It's right up there with the Himalayas train sequence as the most exhilarating action set piece I've experienced in a video game.

1. A Thiefs End / Among Thieves (Both are juggernauts of their respective consoles)

2. Uncharted 3: Drakes Deception
3. Uncharted 1: Drakes Fortune

It's my favorite of the bunch. Easily. That said, the previous installments probably work better as standalones. This one sorta requires familiarity with the stories/characters of the previous games to truly appreciate, which is how a concluding installment should be, imo. The payoff is what makes it so great.

1. A Thief's End
2. Among Thieves
3. Drake's Deception

4. Drake's Fortune

Yeah, I've replayed that chapter 3-4 times now. I LOVE it. Glad to hear you're enjoying the game so far too!

I totally forgot we are getting story DLC
Do we have any idea when that's coming yet?

My rankings as well. Although I do enjoy Deception a whole hell of a lot. Just not as much as U2/U4.

And Flickchick no set date for it, but judging by what ND did with the Left Behind dlc for TLOU I believe that came out about a year after the games release.

Ah, I see, thanks. That seems like a long way off, but then again, it also just means I get to go a long time knowing there's still more Uncharted coming, so...not so bad. :woot:

I anticipate that we'll at least get a teaser at E3.

Wow! 2 have it ahead of and one level with UC2. That's pretty much the best praise available.

How long did it take you guys to get through the campaign once?
