Uncharted 4: A Thief's End

:loco: I'll assume it's ok to ask here. I was able to pick up my copy of the Nathan Drake Collection today. I'm going through Drake's Fortune and I have encountered some very bizarre glitches.

The first occurred early on after kicking down a gate. Drake snapped into place, and moments later he stood, arms outstretched, frozen in place. I had to reload a checkpoint to resume play.

The second was, I think, just after. Just after killing an enemy, the game momentarily froze up on me, and then, seconds later, continued.

Another was just before a scene, again, he teleported to his position and when the game resumed, the animation on his legs became warped.

And the last I can say off the top of my head was a small moment looking at a map. I was supposed to see that map, but the game cut away and showed me Drake instead. I tried again, I could view the map.

Nothing has occurred since, outside of some stuttering which I'll assume are framerate drops. I have not tried the other two games yet. Fortunately, I have videos of all of this occurring recorded.

The first patch is installed, so that isn't an issue. I've been tempted into thinking it might even be the patch itself. Nothing, anywhere, in any comparison or review of early copies or from review sites, mentions issues like these. I don't even recall reading about stuttering, and we're talking isolated areas sometimes. No enemies, not large open spaces.

I'd also read texture pop when loading a level, like the original release, was gone. I had, in the same chapter it was always at its worst - early in the game, when you reach the main island itself, statue in the center, locked gate at the far end - the game texture pop. It was quicker to load, however, but it was still present.

I'm just curious, really. I'm curious if anyone else has encountered these issues, and I feel like I'm more likely to get a decent response here than some other sites I go to, where even so much as a mention of a glitch apparently means you don't actually own the game, or the console, and you hate video games in general, life, and suddenly have a personal vendetta out against everyone in the gaming world and should be ashamed of yourself.
This is interesting. I'll be picking the game up tomorrow. I'll keep an eye out to see if I encounter similar issues. Hopefully that isn't the case!

Game should be waiting for me when I get home, looking forward to jumping in

I'm off to Best Buy to pick up mine.

I haven't come across any, but then again, I literally just started.

All I can remark on is how incredibly well these games have aged. It's unreal. Iv said it before, but Naughty Dog is in a class all by themselves. Their games are timeless. With or without a new coat of paint.

I'm curious what will happen when I play Uncharted 2 and 3. It may well be Drake's Fortune presents more potential issues, being the older of the three and the amount of work they had to put into it to bring it up to the same level as the other two games.

Apparently, after doing some research, some of these issues were in Drake's Fortune on the PS3 anyway, and I can honestly say I never encountered them then.

Still, I've played through a fair chunk of the game now, and though I am battling the controls at times - I just wish they'd have given a sensitivity option for the main camera, not just aim. It's a little too low for me - I haven't come across any more major issues. Fingers crossed you don't.

But I agree. Uncharted was the game I dreamed of as a kid, and I loved it when I first played it - and though I hate the same chapters I hated then, I'm loving everything I loved back then, too. I cannot wait to play 2 and 3 again.

I hope you don't. I mean, they're not major issues in the sense that my saves could have been erased, you know? I've had some major issues with Disney Infinity 3.0 that just spoil the experience a bit. If anything, these are chuckle worthy, but they do make a fluid sequence go from exciting to comical.

But like I said, I've now progressed to a later chapter in the game, and outside of a couple of lighting and sound issues - that look to have been present in the original game anyway - I don't appear to have had anything near as bad since, thankfully.

But let me know if anything does happen. Fortunately I've heard back from some other folks and they have encountered the snap to place, arms outstretched glitch. So I feel less like I'm going mad now, and more relief. :woot: And a simple checkpoint load fixes it.

Forgetting all that though, and the camera struggles that are simply my own personal preferences for sensitivity, it's great going through it again. I'm extremely impressed with what they have done. The different areas in Drake's Fortune always were gorgeous to look at, but my Gods they look incredible now.

I jumped straight into Among Thieves as I had recently completed Drakes Fortune not too long ago via PS Now. It's been a while since Iv played through AT and even longer since Iv gone through Drakes Deception. I can't wait to play through that again. Some of the absolute best writing acting and directing in the industry were found in that game.

IMO the best thing to happen to this series, the dual shock 4. I had the hardest time using that damn DS3 to precisely aim, now, with the DS4 I'm picking goons off like it was nothing.

The ps4 controller is perfection. So much easier to use.

Yikes. NOT a great start to my experience in playing this :lmao:

Installed the game along with the patch. Started the app and it had the "Sony Presents" or whatever that screen is and then the Naughty Dog logo. I noticed the music got cut off with the Sony Presents screen and it jumped to the Naughty Dog screen. And then just black screen. Like as if my TV turned off or something.

The home screen was still accessible so I was in-game, but in-game was completely black screen. Yeesh. Closing the app to retry was unsuccessful as it just hung on the closing app screen. My PS4 just shut itself off at that point and when I turned it back on it rebuilt the database and all that jazz.

The game is running fine after the restart but eeeyeah, system crash on first attempt with the game :funny: I'm really hoping it was bad timing or something weird I did. Hopefully I don't run into any other issues. My PS4 hasn't given me any major issues except for a HDMI missed handshake once.

In a long-form interview with the Official PlayStation Magazine UK, Uncharted 4 writer and studio veteran Josh Scherr said that creating Left Behind “was really just like making a big game on a small scale”, though with the freedom to take a couple of risks along the way.

The studio deviated quite heavily in places from the approach they had taken with the main game, with “experimental” moments of branching dialogue, interactive cinematic scenes and extended non-combat sections all proving popular with players. According to Scherr, the fact that these segments were successful and resonated with users is “really encouraging” Naughty Dog to do a lot of those things with Uncharted 4’s single-player DLC.

He concluded: “Now that we know what’s involved in making something that size, hopefully whatever mistakes and mishaps we may have made making Left Behind… we’ll be able to avoid those and make some brand new ones!”

Man, I don't know how long it's been since I last played Drake's Fortune, that game for PS3 is at the absolute bottom of my trophy list as it was one of the first games I ever got with my PS3.

The last trophy I got for it was the platinum which was 6 years ago to the DAY. Oct. 10, 2009 :funny:

Having said that, this game holds up very well in my opinion. And I agree with ProjectPat & Broseph, this game really compliments the already terrific DS4. I don't remember this game feeling this good and I know the controller plays a big part in that.

It feels like an eternity that I've been able to enjoy some Uncharted. I'm loving this collection so far. I like that I could select my options of inverted at the base of the Collection menu and it'll apply to all 3 games after that.

I also like the online component they added with stats popping up between your friends to see how everyone else is playing the game. It seems like it tracks every single thing in the game. Eternal from here is racking up headshots at probably 2 domeshots every other gunshot ha.

Uc4 animator on tighter controls

Jak felt really good, he was really smooth, he was very responsive and to go from that to say, "Okay, now make a realistic character that has to move with weight, you know, he needs to feel like he’s 190 pounds, but we want it to feel like Jak and Daxter." It’s like, those are two opposite things, right?

That was a really hard problem for us to solve and it took us a while to kind of like perfect that. I think we’re just now getting to the point, on Uncharted 4, where like, yes, yes, we finally got it. We finally got it to where it feels like a ball.

I jumped right into Drake's Deception because I've never played it before, and good lord, this game is BEAUTIFUL. Like I keep stopping and standing in place just to admire the environments, lol. If I didn't know better and you told me this was a game originally made for PS4, I'd believe you. I can't believe how much of step up from this UC4 appears to be, because this already looks fantastic.

Also, the hand-to-hand fighting is more fun in this game than the other two. I feel like I can actually mix it up a bit more rather than the game just telling me what button to push and when.

I can't believe, that even with my minor complaints, it has drawn me in. Again. Like it did the first time. I loved it the first time and played it on and off after, but I can't put it back down now. I just can't wait to play 2 and 3 again. I feel obligated to play Drake's Fortune - which I absolutely love - but I can't wait to see the next two.

How is that, by the way? I don't have it set to show stats at all, I'd rather not be distracted right now. I'll probably look at it more once I've finished all three games.

:drl: Looking forward to going back to Uncharted 3. I was so disappointed on the PS3 that they didn't use their AA like they did in Uncharted 2, so you ended up with edges on distant objects shimmering and looking, frankly, awful. Which was frustrating, because it was a gorgeous game, and I adored the story - but then you had this contrast of distance looking bad, close looking incredible. Then, for some reason, my PS3, more likely, performance - especially now - is just poor. :( My copy on PS3 stutters like mad now, and I don't understand why.

I've felt very drawn in as well. I wasn't expecting to play until 3 last night but I was really enjoying it.

And the stats thing is just a little small box that pops up in the bottom right every great once in a while like a trophy. It's not that obnoxious and so far has only come up a couple times for me. I just thought it was kind of cool to see up-to-date stats of what my friends have going on with the game so far. I guess since there's no multiplayer included with the collection they wanted to incorporate some kind of online function.

Yea I can't wait to reach that game. I only played through that game twice(compared to the countless numbers of DF and AT) and that was back not far after the games release. My PS3 crapped out and I never got it fixed. So I'm deff looking forward to hitting up Drakes Deception again. As I said earlier, that game featured one of the best moments in video game history.

Which moment is that for you? The airplane battle?

You mean that spectacular one-on-one QTE battle? People weren't on the edge of their gaming chairs for that? Shocking.

No I only ended up playing the 1st two on PSNow. I was gonna play the 3rd, but then I heard that this set was coming and decided to wait for this version. I wanted something to hold me over for UC4 when it was pushed back, lol. And so far the wait was totally worth it, as this is doing the job quite nicely. :woot:

that wasn't a boss battle. i get your sarcasm tho

word. i wonder if they're gonna opt to not show any mp and just have the beta be the exposure.

I never noticed the difference between Uncharted and Uncharted 2 until now. Don't get me wrong, I knew visually, they were different, and the improvements were obvious when it was first released.

But the drastic differences, those big differences between the controls and the lighting and the cutscenes and general gameplay itself was never as obvious going from Drake's Fortune - finished this afternoon - to Among Thieves. I wondered during Drake's Fortune if the controls were going to feel as stiff across the entire collection. I couldn't remember the demo - man, my memory stinks - from the other week, and I couldn't remember them being as stiff as they were originally.

But Uncharted 2 feels as smooth as butter, and visually there are little details missing from Drake's Fortune that make up, say, that museum sequence at the start.

And I have to say, as much as I love Drake's Fortune, whoever decides the last three or four chapters of that game would be fun should never get to pick level decisions again. I hated them then, and they were even worse now!

It's funny, playing through these games now and I'm like 'man, how will they ever be able to top this' and then I go and watch that 15 min gameplay demo of Uncharted 4. Holy hell. That game is gonna raise the bar to levels that might not be reachable for other dev studios
