The beauty of unintended irony.

Haha, yea there's a section of the game where the story goes from being good, to just, on another level and I couldn't remember where that "hook" took place. I thought it was right after 10, but I can't really remember.

****. My L3 button for a few weeks now has been kinda ****ed. But been managing to still play. But it seems it's time for me to get a new controller. It's too wonky now sometimes not even moving the character right away when I'm pushing it forward.

It made part of the game a bit tough the other night as I was running/following certain characters. Ugh great just before the weekend when I can finally dive more into the game! Now I gotta go buy a new controller.

I never had an issue with the supernatural elements, I mean Nate Drake is just a current year version of Indiana Jones and his adventures, just current year Dr. Jones adventures and those featured mystical elements. With that said though, they were my least favorite part of the franchise.

So to see them completely removed from this game, was a welcome change.

Its not that I disliked them.. But they kind of "took me out" of the game if you will. Indy was super natural.. Yeah but it worked better IMHO. I would have preferred if the blue dudes were legit Yeti guardians. Something about their bug blue mugs were silly more than intimidating.

Yeah they don't make a big deal about the start/end of chapters; it's just some text on screen for a few seconds during a cut scene, so it's easy to not remember which chapter something happened in, or even miss the chapter title card completely.

I just started chapter 16. Calling it a night. The last few chapters have been bonkers. There a lot less action and epic set pieces, but it's thrilling nonetheless (though I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss them). I do like this this is a "smaller" more personal journey this time around; Nate can only save the world so many times, haha.

It works better for Indy films because Indy tended to go after things with a more supernatural bend to begin with (such as the Ark of the Covenant, the Holy Grail, etc). In the first and second Uncharted, there's really no indication of that since they are searching for the more straight-forward goal of treasure or a lost civilization or whatever, the supernatural elements just sort of appear more or less at random near the end of the games. Tomb Raider is a lot more like Indy in that regard, since the supernatural aspect of whatever is being hunted in often introduced very early on.

I like the supernatural elements in U1 and U2. But I'm not gonna be upset if they aren't in this game either.

I liked them fine myself, but they were pretty random, though. I think maybe there was some mention of the Yeti in UC2 maybe earlier in the game, but I still remember it being kind of out of nowhere.

so does this game offer any kind of recap of the story so far, for those players who may not have played the prior 3 games?

Not that I'm aware of. It pretty much just jumps right into everything as if you know the characters and stories so far. I mean, to a degree, though, all of the UC are fairly standalone and this one doesn't seem all that different so far. You can probably jump into the game with just knowing that Nate was a former adventurer who is now settled down and be fine.

I'd say though you really should play the trilogy first before jumping into this game. You'll get more out of the overall story and characters. Plus you'd be doing yourself a disservice to just skip the first 3 jumping into this. Chapter 4 in this game has some nice little moments of nostalgia and what not. It carries a lot more weight if you've played the trilogy.

thanks!!

I was going to pick up the Collection on sale at BB, but my local store was all sold out. :(

but, this isn't really a top priority, so I'll just wait for another sale on the Collection and by the time I get to UC 4 that will probably be cheaper, too.

Well, I would say you're doing a disservice by skipping 2 and 3. The first one...eh, really good for its time, but it aged pretty poorly. It was almost shocking when I tried to revisit it not too long ago (I had an original copy on PS3) how poor it was compared to the other two. You can tell they really hadn't refined much at that point at all. Apparently, Bluepoint did some tinkering to it in the collection, but I don't know, unless they overhauled the whole game it's probably not even worth going to nowadays, in my opinion anyway. 2 and 3, though, have stood up very well and are still solid titles.

I just hit Chapter 20 and all I'll say is I freaking hate Elena, but I love her at the same time. From what I've read, there's just a few more chapters left, so I'll finish this tomorrow night. But it's been one hell of a ride so far and I'm so engulfed in this in a way that I wasn't expecting.

Naughty Dog has to be one of the best developers in the world right now. This game is a joy to experience.

ND is one of those developers that doesn't come around very often that does very special things. They're amazing.

Gameplay-wise, it's easily the weakest, but I think it is the most important in setting up the Nate-Elena romance, which is very important to the series as a whole. I almost feel like they spent the most time together alone in that game, and it really sets up the dynamic between the two that makes them both lovable characters.

Plus U1 is still fun to play. I don't see the point in skipping it if you're gonna play 2,3 and eventually 4. Play 1 and experience the entire franchise.

Yeah, some of the best moments of Uncharted 2 mean absolutely nothing without the context of U1.

No. Just subtle nods to the past games. If you haven't played them, wait until you do before playing 4.

Yea there's no reason to skip any of them.

So...watching the demo was one thing, but actually playing that whole Madagascar sequence, I really think it rivals the train sequence in UC2 as my favorite set piece of the series (I mean, so far. Haven't finished the game yet, lol).

This game is really slow. I'm on Chapter 12 or so and can't believe it goes into the 20s.
