Venom Venom: Let There Be Carnage

I mean I think it was kind of obvious something was happening when the Morbius trailer dropped with Keaton showing up but to finally have it confirmed has me excited with what they will do next for the next movie

Has Tom Hardy been spotted on the set of No Way Home?

As someone who's prior knowledge of Venom was in Sam Raimi's Spiderman played by Topher Grace, I liked the first movie. I plan on watching it this weekend.

Something that the prior leaks of the post credits scene didn't mention, and it's kinda huge, is Venom

mentions something about being connected to other universes. So it's very possible that he know's about the Raimiverse Venom. And he clearly recognizes Spiderman. Makes me think he knows that Tophers Venom was killed by Spiderman.

RT score was at over 60% earlier but has now dropped to 59%. I see Jeremy Jahns was not a fan.

Whether he is in the MCU. will Venom remain in the MCU or will he only be there temporarily

It does look like something happens in that room that makes all this happen. so its possible its tied to the multiverse of madness and be fixed after?

Not that it matters when it comes to the character of Venom. really when it comes down to it. I imagine there would be a few things to get around to be able to fully keep him in the MCU.

About to watch this disaster in an hour, for whatever reason. It’s a lot more than I can say for the first venom, which I catch bits and pieces of every time they show the movie on FX. One of these days I’ll have watched every scene in that movie.

progress!

Jesus, there’s almost a packed house to see this hogwash

I saw Shang Chi night 1 and it wasn’t even 25% full, this is half full at the very least

I was entertained, but I can’t really give it high praise beyond “it was fine.” Really barebones story, not everything has to be some grand plan, but it doesn’t play up the crime/serial killer angle enough, it doesn’t play the potential horror elements enough, and it really doesn’t even flesh out the relationship between Venom and Eddie much more. The acting is good, I like Harrelson as Cassidy even though he’s not that great an interpretation of the character for various reasons. I thought most of the effects were good. I guess I’d rate it like a 6/10, slightly above being average but not enough to really call it good. End credits scene was fun with an audience that wasn’t spoiled.

I think he can stay but not be used, MCU would kind of need to overall him a bit. He can be funny but most of the time the Symbiote is child like with the jokes.

I figure whatever happens in Spider-Man NWH and Dr.Strange movie is how they bring the Fox characters over and anyone else they may want to use.

The tv seemed like it was discussing Parker from Far From Home, Multiverse Madness is after. Parker wants Strange to correct everyone knowing who he is in NWH though so Venom 2 must be shortly after Mysterio exposed him and Parker gets help from Strange

I only had like 12 people at my showing.
It was an okay movie, I only wanted to see it because Carnage is a favorite of mine. Visually he was well done and I liked whenever he talked, he was no nonsense. Didn't care for the motive that Kasady had at first and it was pretty easy to piece together what would happen. The movie being 1hr and 35min makes some parts seem rushed.

I knew it was not going to get high praise when the RT waited to the day of release. Still okay movie, likely only ever watching it once. Credit scene was great I had no clue about it.

"Disaster" and "Hogwash" but there you are opening night. :loco:
Just because I gave it a chance doesn’t mean I can’t think it’s both of those things. I thought it stunk. Carnage was completely wasted with this PG-13 rating and it felt like a 7 year old wrote the movie.

At least it wasn’t 2 hours, so it had that going for it. I give them credit for making it an hour and 37 minutes.

So now that it's out, I honestly had a blast with this movie. I can't express how much Tom Hardy's enthusiasm really carries this movie. While I would love to see him get a chance to be terrorizing and scary, I think Tom nails that really goofy side from the 90s comics while managing to make it really charming. I think what gets overlooked a lot with this character in the comics is how much of an oddball he really was especially in the 90s. He didn't just say these weird things to toy with Spider-Man, he would talk to himself singing nursery rhymes about how bad he'd kill Parker. I'm not saying they should've done it because some things just don't translate well to screen, but Tom's commitment makes me happy they did capture that side. Make no mistake, with a lesser actor, this take would've been an unmitigated disaster from the start so it's really a testament to Tom that it works as well as it does.

Now that I got that out of the way, I kind of want to talk about the issues I had with this movie though but with spoilers:

I think this movie would've really benefited from 15 more minutes. I would've had one more scene early in the movie with Cletus trying to "befriend" Eddie in a creepy way, maybe sprinkle one more quick scene with Shriek (who I actually like in this movie), just check in with Anne Weying and Dan because they don't show her or Dan for awhile after she reveals she's engaged. The movie has a brisk pace that is admirable but I actually think they were on to something and these type of additions could've really made this a truly quality film. I mean it was really close. As it is its fun fluff.

Also though I'm warming up to it, I really think there could've been one more battle or the final battle extended another 5 minutes with maybe Venom chasing Carnage to another location to battle after Shriek dies. I felt like considering how big their rivalry is in the comics it deserved more than just one battle. Also don't think they really earned Kasady's admission he just wanted Eddie's friendship. I want to add I really like Woody's performance and I think he captures the spirit of the character, just the script or lack of a couple scenes rob him from making a greater impact.

That said, I saw some people bummed that Carnage dies and frankly I'm fine with it. He's died a lot in the comics and he doesn't even have a physical body anymore. His essence is just embedded with the symbiote, so if Woody ever comes back it's not like there wasn't any precedent already set in the comics. Besides it would be a good way of building up the abilities of what symbiotes can do once bonded to a well matched host, if they ever do bring him back.

All in all movie was great fun for me and it really stuck with the things that I enjoyed about the first. I honestly like the first one a bit ironically, but I actually bought in with this movie because it is so self aware and has no problem being seen as trashy fluff. Really hope we see Tom do many more appearances as Venom as long as his enthusiasm remains, because he's quickly becoming a bit of an iconic take on the character. He just needs to be in a really great movie to solidify it.

yeah the leaks totally miscontextualized the mid credit scene so I was surprised at how much I liked it. The leak I read just said he's sitting watching TV and then Spidey shows up on screen and Venom says he looks tasty. But hell they left out what you brought up and also that they're transported to another universe. I mean those are some huge details to leave out lol.

I also overheard people at my screening saying the leaks did a garbage job explaining it. If you ask me, the fact the description made it sound worse I think makes people like the mid credit scene more.

My initial feeling right now is that it was pretty average. But average is a big step up from the first. Hardy and Harrelson are having a blast in their roles, the comedy mostly lands better (though there may be too much at times), it's better shot and the action set-pieces were a big step above the predecessor. The brief runtime worked in it's favor and they gave Michelle Williams more to do here which was nice.

Would have liked to see more of Shriek. Carnage looked good and was utilized well in set-pieces and story. Character wise, I would liked to see more of the characters dark sense of humor and unfortunately it did feel like the character had handcuffs on him due to the rating.

I'm guessing the post-credit scene
Takes place during Dr. Stranges spell in NWH? I'm intrigued to see how this Spidey/Venom story plays out since we know now that they have gone about totally oppositely from the comics. I've always enjoyed Venom more as a villain to Spider-Man rather than his own solo anti-hero anyway

The first Venom I have had no interest in rewatching because it was dull trash, but this one I can see myself turning on again for some fun trashy entertainment.

"Disaster" and "Hogwash" but there you are opening night. :loco:

I'm like those Star Wars fans that claim to have hated the last six movies but are still going to be there for the next one day one. Many of us love these characters so much that we'll stick with 'em through the best and worst of times.

To those that have seen it, is there one or two mid/after credit scenes?

60% on rotten tomatoes after 100 reviews... I gotta say I'm pleasantly surprised so far.
That's a really good number compared to the first one.

This movie for me is what the Fast and Furious movies are for others: delicious trash. But as a film, this one is far more coherent than the first one.

The first one was sort of a tonal Frankenstein that is intentionally hilarious when Eddie and Venom are interacting and unintentionally hilarious with various inept story telling examples. Like, what the bloody hell was Riot doing for 6 months in that 1 woman or pretty much any scene where Drake opens his mouth. Riot doesn't even join the plot basically until the movie is over.

Here, while the movie is no great examination of the human condition and is a film version of fast food, it at least has a story where the logic works. Kassidy is a far better villain than Drake/Riot. But I do think the Carnage symbiote himself suffered a bit. Carnage I think has great action scenes and works in the PG-13 environment fine, but while both Eddie AND Venom are 2 distinct characters that are well developed, with Carnage only Kassidy is developed. I felt like we didn't get enough scenes of Cletus and Carnage talking to each other like Venom and Eddie do, and it does hurt Carnage as a whole. But that said, I still think he was solid enough for this movie, and a major step up from Riot.

All in all, I liked this one more. But if you hated Venom and Eddie as a duo last movie, you will hate this one. This movie dials up their shenanigans up to 11, and you are either there for it or not. Me, I am there for it, lol! Not perfect, but this was never going to be a masterpiece, lol! This is fun B movie schlock
