Someone said that Raimi wanted to save Venom for Spider-Man 4, is that true or is it just someone taking up for Raimi? If it's true, is there a link to an article or video that can confirm this?

I wouldn't believe that for a second.

I really don't think Raimi likes the character at all. Which is sad(for me),but it's his right.

Raimi never liked the character of Venom pre-Spider-Man 3. After he made the movie, though, he came to respect the character.

You know, that's lie.
No way in hell Raimi respected Venom in any form.

If he respected Venom in any ways,
(1)He wouldn't have casted Topher Grace (worst choice possible for Eddie Brock)
(2)Would've used Venom more than last 15 minutes of movie and not kill him off.

No way Raimi wanted to save Venom for Spiderman 4.
He never wanted to use Venom, but got forced to use him, so used Venom in completely disastrous way. (Which almost makes me to think that he did it purpose)

I agree but casting Topher Grace was actually a good choice.

The Raimis (Sam & Ivan) wanted Sandman, New Goblin and Vulture as the villains. Avi Arad pushed to have Venom incorporated into the storyline somehow. The Raimis liked the idea of the black suit and how it was affecting Parker's personnality but didn't want to use Venom since they felt that they already had too many characters. The producers felt that it might be better to shoot Spider-Man 3 & Spider-Man 4 with Spidey 3 focusing on the Sandman/New Goblin/Vulture/Black suit storyline and Eddie Brock inheriting the black suit and becoming Venom at the end of the film, leading the audience into the fourth film which would have focused souly on Venom (maybe Sandman as well, I don't know). But the idea had to abandoned because Alvin Sargent (screenwriter) couldn't find a satisfying climax for the third film. They idea of doing Spider-Man 3 & 4 was dropped altogether and Venom ultimatly replaced Vulture, for worse.

For more informations, read "The Spider-Man Chronicles" by Grant Curtis.

Raimi said he liked Venom after researching the character, but that was more than likely cause it would have been in bad taste to down a character you're supposed to plug for, ya know, a movie your directing...

Raimi said he liked Venom after researching the character

No, he didn't. He said the more he researched him, the more he disliked him:

I had never read Venom in the comic books, since they came after my time. Because of that, I didn't have a natural inclination toward him. And when I read those comics, at [producer] Avi Arad's urging, I didn't understand where Venom's humanity was. I know that kids think he looks cool, and they think he's a good villain for Spider-Man. I actually didn't. What was it about Peter's own makeup that this villain represented some weaker or darker side to? Just looking like a dark version of him is not enough for me. The more I read [Venom stories], the less interested I became.

I read somewhere that Raimi liked Venom when Topher was playing the role as the character.
“Now that I’ve seen Topher Grace perform him, then saw what Alvin Sargent did with the script… He created a great character. He really filled out Eddie Brock into a very meaningful character. Tobey has a great energy with him in the few scenes that they play together as competitors, and I really like him now.”

Joker, I love how you left out this part of you quote:

But then Avi said, ''Look, you've got to be less selfish. You've got to learn what it is these kids love about Venom.'' So I tried to open my mind up. Then Alvin developed a character that I did understand, and did appreciate.

Plus, sincethe release of SM3, Raimi has stated in many interviews that his opinion of Venom has changed. Chocolate eater already posted an example.

That doesn't have anything to do with what Joker was replying to.

That part of the quote had nothing to do with what I was replying to. You said Raimi liked Venom the more he researched him. Not true at all. Quite the opposite, in fact. I quoted the part which states that he disliked Venom the more he researched him.

Raimi likes HIS version of the character in SM-3, which is photographer rival of Peter's, who's got romantic delusions about Gwen, and asks god to kill Peter after Peter gets him fired, and then runs to Sandman for help to take on Spidey after he becomes Venom.

Chocolate eater quoted Raimi saying he liked his version of Venom. Not the comics one. Raimi has never said his opinion of Venom from the comics has changed. Just that he liked HIS version of Venom in SM-3.

Alright I don't want to debate or anything (because I suck at debating), but I read another article where Raimi stated he had total control of spider-man 4 and what he said told me that he at least respected the character.
I don't even want to comment on Venom, because I know he's a great character and all the fans love him. I never want to say anything bad about a much-beloved character because usually it turns out that I'm the one that doesn't understand what makes it great."

Now in what I believe in Raimi did respect the character but he didn't understand why or how his such a great and beloved character...then again I could be wrong.
