I don't give a rat's ass what Venom looks like animation wise. Although, alot of his body looks out of proportion from what I saw. Maybe it wont look as bad in the cartoon.
I'm more pleased that they've totally revamped him writing wise, and actually made Eddie Brock a credible and interesting character. And he has a real connection to Peter. So, we know their forthcoming feud will be based on something concrete, and not some contrived, delusional BS that comic book Venom has.
I am looking forward to the latest incarnation of Venom in the new animated series, "The Spectacular Spider-Man". I'm glad to see that Eddie Brock will be developed before hand, have prior interactions with Peter Parker. This will make the character even more stronger, and this makes me happy. I like the design of the Venom character as well, sure it's exaggerated, but it seems to fit in with the rest of the show.
To me, this is important.
My interest in Venom started years ago when I first went to a comic-book store. I was browsing through the various comics then I came across this graphic novel called Spider-Man vs Venom.
"All the David Michelinie and Todd McFarlene Venom stories collected in one volume!". It contained chance encounter, survival of the hittest, Venom, A matter of life and debt, dead meat, and finally the sand and the fury. This was a wonderful book and the obsession with Venom sparked from there for years to come. But also at the same time, my interest in Spider-Man just began and I got hooked every since.
Years went by, and my interest in comic books died down, especially when the Spider-Man comics went sour, I stopped altogether because I was let down by the unacceptable quality. However, upon hearing of Ultimate Spider-Man and Venom making a comeback in that series, the obsession fired up. I've been collecting Ultimate Spider-Man ever since, I even got the graphic novels of prior arcs. I guess I should also include how I think highly of the treatment of Venom in the 90's Spider-Man animated series, I think that was refreshing and well done Venom story. And I also love the Spider-Man 3 Venom, I feel that they handled him well. I know a lot of people don't care for this incarnation of Venom, but I disagree with them. I just wish they utilized him a him better, but it's not the end of the world. I like Venom in any form of media. I guess I'm a "Venom Fanboy", I do however recognize the characters flaw's, but I'm fine with that. I know a lot of people hate this character, but everyone has their own opinion and I respect that. But my opinion of Venom will never fail, I feel like Venom is a part of me simply because I've been a fan for such a long time. Like I said, my obsession with Venom is powerful. To me, the character is a combination of science fiction & horror, two of my favorite genres! As for Carnage and other symbiote related characters? I like Carnage, I know a lot of people dislike this character, even more so then Venom but I think Carnage is great. Does he have terrible stories, of course! But there are a few that I think deserve recognition. I don't care for the skittle symbiotes, hybrid, or other Venom clones. I don't mind Toxin, despite how underwhelming he is.
To end this long winded rant, I know Venom isn't on the level of legendary characters such as Green Goblin or Doctor Octopus. I believe those two are the most iconic villains from the Spider-Man mythos. People are always saying that Venom is in the big three with those other two. Venom is very popular, I admit. And that's great, but sometimes I feel it's for the wrong reasons. Some people think he's just cool looking, or a total "bad ass". But I genuinely believe that Eddie Brock's unmatched hatred for Peter Parker transcends madness. I just wish a writer would come along and give Venom the proper treatment I feel he deserves, if they can't come up with anything then don't use the character, it doesn't mean you have to kill him off or anything either. Of all the time I've been on superherohype I've always said Venom is #1 to me and it will never, ever cease.
The funny thing is, I hardly have any Venom merchandise besides various comic books, and a few novels which feature the character. I have one Venom poster which I've owned for years, I have a shirt with the white spider emblem. And when I was younger I collected Spider-Man toys, but out of all of them, l I only had one Venom action figure, the one from the 90's tas with the removable mask. No, my obsession with Venom goes beyond possession of material.
Maybe some will think I'm crazy, or just a blind venom fanboy. But I'm telling you in all honesty and truth. I don't disrespect people who don't think highly of Venom, at times I may seem irrational or out of line but that's just me. I'm a stubborn person but who isn't, right? Thanks for putting up with me.
End of rant!
