Viola Davis' Amanda Waller Posted In This Thread, Then Threw Away The Thread!

Viola Davis, absolutely.

Yeah, that's fair. My issue is Oprah loves the limelight, and she's only interested in things as mechanisms to further her brand. Her involvement as a force "bigger" than the other actors and even the directors/writers could undermine the project. Why take that risk when Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer are more seasoned actors that will kill it in the role without jeopardizing any aspect of the film?

Davis and Spencer get my vote. Spencer was fantastic in Snowpiercer, and she's been doing the sassy badass thing for some time. She'd be my pick, but Viola Davis looks more like the Waller I saw in Assault on Arkham, she's got a sterner expression and more imposing face.

Just to get it out of the way, I can't stand Oprah. I think she does everything she does out of a need for attention and engineers her career moves to pander to her sycophantic audience. Maybe she'd make a good Waller, but I'd much prefer one of the other two candidates who I think are better fits for the role. Oprah might take too many people out of the movie. It'll be like watching Donald Trump in a movie.

I see what you're saying. Oprah could feel that the project isn't "important" enough in terms of social issues or too light or popcorn etc.

Viola and Octavia are great to me. Oprah does have a great look for Waller. I wouldn't complain if any of them got the role. I can see how Oprah being in it could take you out of it, but if she is serious about acting, and she has shown it in the past, and makes it about the work, the role, and not overshadowing with her persona, she could surprise people.

Yeah, I'd agree with that. I just think her previous successful projects had her personal investment, they were about historical injustices, etc. The kind of topics she's been discussing for like 20 years. I don't see her being invested in this.

Spencer and Davis seem like safer bets. I hope they don't chase Oprah for her "name" so zealously they forget what could go wrong with that casting.

The only thing that worries me about Davis is the scheduling of her show on ABC but aside from that I feel she's the one that would be the most dedicated.

What I like about Viola Davis more than Oprah for this role - her voice.

Yes her schedule because of her TV show could be an issue.

Though I dislike the New 52 slimmer and hotter version of Waller and would like live action one to be a larger woman like pre-New 52 Waller was, I must say that I still prefer Davis to Winfrey and a lot of other actresses that fit the type.

Her face, stance, demeanor and voice are just perfect for Waller.

And if for nothing else, then they should cast her for Batfleck's sake:

:hehe:

Her voice and her overall presence is incredible not to mention her acting is always on point. Always.

She should actually be in the clear for this. The show is a 15 episode thing, rather than 22/24. She'll most likely be done with the first season pretty soon. If they're filming from April to September, they could have a good few months from her before the second season starts filming in July.

My choice for Waller was always Chandra Wilson from Grey's Anatomy:

Cch or viola for Amanda

CCH Pounder would have been a nice bit of symmetry from her days voicing Waller in the Justice League cartoon.

Any of you guys heard of Kellita Smith?

Kellita never crossed my mind for the role, but I actually wouldn't mind her for New 52 thinner-Waller. (Beautiful woman!)

Warners still has the role of Amanda Waller, the character who oversees the team (similarly to Nick Fury in the Marvel universe), to cast before the film goes into production. The studio’s shortlist of actresses being eyed for the role includes Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer and Oprah Winfrey, whom sources say would be WB’s first choice for the part.

I honestly am curious to see if Oprah would take the role.

The idea of Oprah in the role is intriguing. I think she's a talented actress and could possibly nail the role.

That being said, Viola Davis is on fire right now and would be absolutely perfect! Might as well sign her up while she's hot.

Viola Davis!

And hopefully in her wardrobe from How to Get Away with Murder.

lol...THIS! Good grief this woman's curves!!!

Viola Davis, absolutely.

There's a lot of good choices for Waller

CCH Pounder
Viola Davis
Octavia Spencer
Oprah (Yes I would support that)
Mo'Nique
Queen Latifah

any of the above and I'd be happy with the casting.

I'd be happy if any of them got the role. Spencer and Davis are great, and Oprah's proven that she's a good actress before. Heck she has an Oscar nomination and an Emmy. It'd be even more outside the box than Robert Redford or, well Will Smith, doing a CBM.

WB went after their top choices: Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robie, Tom Hardy. They managed to get them. If Oprah is their top choice, it's probably likely she would end up as Waller. She does have a certain instant gravitas about her.

Viola Davis or Octavia Spencer would both be great choices. And I'd actually be fine with Oprah, as she's proven to be a good actress going back as far as The Color Purple. The only risk would be her public persona overshadowing the role. Though I did see a great joke on Twitter....

"You get a bomb in your head! You get a bomb in your head! Everybody gets a bomb in their head!" - Oprah as Amanda Waller

My choice is still Taraji P. Henson but Viola Davis would also be good.

My choice was Monique but I could get down with Oprah.

I just hope they do Waller justice this time round. She's a freaking great character, and I think it's a shame she was so underutilised in Green Lantern, even with a quality actress like Angela Bassett in the role.

If they weren't going for a black Amanda Waller, then they could go for Judi Dench.

After all, is there anything about Waller that says she has to be black? :o

Raven... I beg of you... Please stop making this "joke" to prove some kind of point.

Not a joke or making a point for the sake of it. Judi Dench would be a solid pick for Waller if they weren't just sticking to black women. She's already played a similar role as M in the Bond movies. She even kind of resembles some short haired versions of her except that she's white. And in Waller's case, unlike someone like Black Panther or Luke Cage, being black isn't part of her identity.

I'm sure Raven is being sarcastic, but still...why stir the pot? Everyone seems to be in pretty good spirits on these boards. Why change that?

Henson has been one of my top picks, too. But all of the names getting tossed around would be great.

Agreed. Makes you realize how deep the pool is for talented black actresses. Even the out of the box choices are great. Hard to go wrong here.
