The Dark Knight Was Batman in this movie?

the batman character in TDK definitely felt more sidelined and on auto pilot. like, with all the focus and effort they put into making the joker awesome, they were spent when it came time to focus on batman and give his character his due effort.

He was anything but autopilot, he was constantly questioning himself, being challenged, shaken, forced to re-evaluate his POVs and decisions.

personally, i prefer my batman to be a little more confident in himself and his actions. leave the self conscious pitty party for spider-man.

A character with no conflict is nothing but boring and bland. Bruce wasn´t in self pity, he was truly seeking a way to help Gotham without wearing a mask. As for feeling guilty about Rachel´s death, it was an understandable feeling and Batman went through similar situations a number of times in comics. And it´s not like he just kept seating around moping, he shook the dust and kept going.

yeah that's why i don't like Iron Man so much.

i agree. i also think that in a near-flawless acting performance from everyone involved, i think christian bale was the worst actor. not that he was bad, i just did not see an arc in his character as much as i did in dent, dawes, gordon, or the joker, and i feel that i definately should have. then again, ive only seen it once. maybe a second viewing will satisfy me more.

At least Batman doesn't sit around and mope "Why me?" :oldrazz:

I disagree, I, like you said, loved everyone, but i thought Cillian Murphy was pretty bad.

Atleast until they took of his mask. Then he was good again, but only had one line.

Maybe it's just hard to act with the mask when you don't see him in the fear toxin thing.

just because a character is confident doesnt mean he's void of conflict. and i dont think he felt guilty about rachel's death. in fact, i dont know what he felt, he didnt really react much to it in the movie.

Your comment is so off the mark, actually part of the problem with Batman in the movie is he was TOO confident, "Batman has no limits". It´s stated pretty clearly that he felt like Rachel might have died because of him. You wanted what, that he sat around moping a lot, you´d probably have complained about that as well.

He already has:

And he did feel guilty. I forgot the exact line, but it was something like, "Did I bring this upon her?" And then he moved straight onwards, focusing on what he would have to do to catch the Joker.

Joker never knew batman's identity, FYI.

yeah he did, he was talking about rachel and his relationship with her in the jail cell, he was aware they were intimate, he cracked that he was bruce wayne

Yeah, but when was it publicly stated that Bruce Wayne and Rachel Dawes were intimate? How would the Joker know that?

the joker is a genius, he knew fully well that harvey wasn't batman and was two steps ahead of everyone with regards to everything else.

That is total BS. Not once in this movie did he ever imply that Batman was Bruce Wayne. He knew that there was a relationship between Batman and Rachel, but that was it. Now if he ever started looking into Rachel Dawes' private life, maybe he could have come to that conclusion, but it's not like Bruce is the only man Rachel's ever been with before Harvey. Hell, as far as I know, she was never "with" him at all, other than as a friend. It was even implied in Begins that she had a relationship with D.A. Finch at one time. So yeah, I think even if the Joker started to look into her personal life (I doubt he'd be interested enough to do so), he probably wouldn't find anything out about who Batman is.

Bingo.

oh yeah that girl, she was a ho... fo sho.

there's a part in "a death in the family" where it is implied that the joker knows who batman is so maybe team nolan implied it as well... But i don't really think the joker really cares who batman is... since he's just "too much fun"

I'm not a big fan of Rachel.

Although i hated her in the first movie, i think it was just katie's take on her.

I actually felt kinda sorry for her in this movie.

Same here. Even thought I knew she was gonna get killed, I kinda felt bad when she did.
