Watchmen

One thing I thought was interesting, reading it again just a few weeks ago, is that the Keane act forced heroes to either register with the government or retire. I don't suppose that sounds familiar to anybody, does it?

Trust me, that wasn't the first comic to have something that sounded a little like the SHRA in some regard.

I'm very selective in my postings, but I need to chime in here.

If you don't think Watchmen is brilliant and among the finest works ever created in the super-hero genre, or even the comic book medium as a whole, you're either insane or ignorantly stupid. Neither would surprise me given some of the responses I just read.

Watchmen is better than your favorite comic book and then some. Watchmen is deeper than any other comic you've ever read and then some. I still find new things EVERY time I read it, and I've read it somewhere around 10 times now.

It's a masterfully woven tale. Every single piece of it fits together. Every single character matters. Every single line of dialog has meaning. Every single thing, panel for panel, line for line, is a part of the larger whole.

Plain and simple: there is a reason why it continues to be considered a landmark word in the medium 21 years after its original publication. BECAUSE IT'S F**KING BRILLIANT.

I'll go out on a limb here... if you don't like Watchmen, you are not, nor ever were, or ever shall be a super-hero comics fan. You're just a drone in a sea of emptiness. End of story.

^Ignorance. Judging a mandate for someone to be a fan of something.

That's like saying people can't be a car fan if they don't absolutely love Deusenbergs or Bel Airs.

You can easily be a super comic fan and not particularly love Watchmen for more than just a complex story.

Exactly. Doesn't apply to me since I love Watchmen, but that's just being stupid CC.

I'm many things, but ignorant is not one of them.

Thanks for sharing though.

Dude, to call one ignorant for not absolutely loving Watchmen IS ignorance. :o

As long as you realize it, THEN you're not ignorant.

Cobra Commander isn't ignorant guys, he's just plain stupid.

Nope.
As I said my favorite comic is From Hell, which is at the very least just as deep and complex as Watchmen. I personally think it's much more complex.

Hm... I can't imagine why I decided to stop posting here for such a long time. :whatever:

Hey, you're the one crying ***** tears, not me. You don't like it, leave. That simple. You made an incredibly stupid post, buck up, and take it like a man.

Okay, why doesn't everyone calm down? This is ridiculous. There's no reason to call ANYONE "stupid." It's rude and immature. Everyone has different opinons, different tastes, different likes or dislikes. If someone didn't like Watchmen, that doesn't make them better or worse, just DIFFERENT. The amount of name-calling that goes on here is appalling.

I bought it a few weeks ago.
I just finished The Great and Secret Show and I don't know when I'll get to Watchmen. I've got a few other things lined up. [/tagged]

Hm. Perhaps I overstated when I used the term "stupid." For that, I apologize.

But I stand by my feelings on Watchmen. It's a seminal, ground-breaking work, and remains a benchmark in the industry to this day. To dismiss and undermine that is narrow-minded and short-sighted. Anyone should be able to appreciate that and see the value in Watchmen.

You can appreciate it and its effect without liking it (I do BTW).

I wouldn't be shocked if the people who didn't like Watchmen were simply being disagreeable and panning it because it receives so much praise. I'm sorry, but not liking a story because it's good doesn't make you cool. There is a reason that it's considered by many to be the best superhero story ever told. It's ****ing brilliant.

I've read Watchmen a good 3 times now and I still don't consider one of the best things I've read.Just not my cup of tea.I guess that makes me stupid.:whatever:
