WB has them 2? Wow! :wow:

Keeping my fingers crossed. I think GL has the most promise of being a huge tentpole for WB. Not as big as Bats but bigger than any other previous DC superhero film. Bigger than the X-dudes is my hope.

Not if Justin Timberlake plays GL.

If you man Gary Oldman's comments, I think the jury's still out. I'd like at least to hear from some writers or producers at least.

The story was on the super hero hype homepage also so Oldman is right. Batman gonna start production next year with a movie out in 2011.

Maybe WB is finally wising up. Bats 3 will be Nolan's last most likley. DC needs a new comic mega-franchise. GL comes out in 2011 also. WB is hopefully doing this to position GL as the next comic tentpole after Batman.

There is still some little hope for a 2012-2013 release date

GL is set for 2011 and Bats 3,

2012 and 2013 sound defintely like Flash and Aqauman. So I think there is lots more than hope for DC projects in 2012 and 2013. Let not your heart be troubled.

So let me get this straight... Flash and Aquaman will be released before BB3 (which probably won't be 2011) and the next Superman? I can see Flash but sheesh. The point is I was making is that if WB is lacking a 300 million dollar movie for 2013 and beyond... Superman would be the logical choice. There is no other DC character that can make HP/Batman type money other than JLA. Unless WB has another property I am unaware of. Something... non-comic book for a change that can still make TF or POTC money? That's what I was asking. If not I see Supes no later than 2014 barring they hold onto the rights ofcourse.

There isn't any problem. I can wait.
Nevertheless I doubt that between Flash, Aquaman and GL there will be more than a movie able to make more than $150m at the box office.

Most of those films listed in that article will never see the light of day.

probably so with wb's track record for dc films, hopefully though we do end up seeing flash/aquaman make it to the big screen. We know the issues with ww so she is more likely not happen soon but i dont see why flash or aquaman couldnt be next after gl if they get the right people in charge of it.

Remake, remake, unproven, Holiday movie and one sequel max.

Franchise, franchise, potential franchise, continuation of the Lord of the Rings franchise (and don't think that they aren't going to try and get the rights to Children of Hurin).

Warner Bros. is a film company with many franchises that go beyond just DC Comics. They have the Looney Tunes, Hanna-Barbera, Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, the film rights to Sex and the City, Final Destination, Rush Hour, Mortal Kombat, the Suffering, Happy Feet, Mad Max, Warcraft, the Adventures of Pluto Nash, Juwanna Man, etc.

Most of those are Halloween franchises that have been around for 30 years. Not mid July 300 million dollar franchises. There is clearly a difference. LOTR is a winter franchise as well. WoW may also be a winter franchise that will pick up after LOTR so the case is still out. Rush Hour? Hope you aren't talking about the Tucker/Chan movies. The Murphy/Lawrence movies? Good joke there... :hehe: Mortal Kombat? I am smelling the next Batman there... the rest are animated features. I was thinking live action. So none of those look like summer block busters by any stetch. As for GL, even if it was the next IM, that only covers them every 2-3 years. What about the sandwich years like 2009 and 2011 where WB had to adjust their slates to compensate to fill their slots? Again, maybe there is a franchise out there. What you listed I doubt will be one of them on par with what we are comparing them to.

It is still a franchise for Warner Bros. to exploit.

Who are we to determine what's a summer or winter franchise?

Yes, it's a small franchise, but a franchise nonetheless.

The Murphy/Lawrence movies? Good joke there... :hehe:
I know :oldrazz:

Mortal Kombat?
Warner Bros. now owns Mortal Kombat after buying Midway Games. A franchise that they can exploit.

Nothing is going to be the next Batman. The Dark Knight came out on the perfect date with the perfect hype with little competition.

And don't knock down animated features. Happy Feet was very successful and I personally don't get why Warner Bros. doesn't milk the Hanna-Barbera and Looney Tunes properties to the best potential. They can make some excellent animated films with them.

My point is that Warner Bros. really doesn't need Superman when they have a lot of other properties out there that can also be exploited just as much. They're not like Marvel Studios that is dedicated on bringing out adaptations and interpretations of their comic book characters like Iron Man, Hulk, and Thor. Warner Bros. has to be more diversified because they're a major studio.

Flash and Green Lantern both should easily top 200+ Mil. Ryan Reynold's Hal Jordan is going to become a blockbuster film icon. Flash is such a visually stimulating character that he will kill with the right director.

Aquaman will be harder, but if Leo does it (what better way to ensure your films success?) it will make bank as well.

IMO you are overstimating the potential of these franchises. I think that WW could be a great hit, but I doubt that GL and Flash can do better than Wolverine.

I'm sure alot off ppl wrote off Iron man also, since he is more a side hero to the front runenrs at marvel & look what happened there. A great comic book movie doesn't come from what Hero is the better hero, or what hero has the most fans, it comes down to quality of script, director & actor & I think GL has that & can be great.

Steve

You are right, but Iron Man is a perfect character for a movie: a cool metal armor, incredible weapons, tanks, jets, fire, explosions, fly, beautiful girls, cool cars, etc.

I doubt that Flash and GL can have the same appeal among the teen agers.

It is still a franchise for Warner Bros. to exploit.

Franchises that are irrelevant in terms of being WB's huge tentpole in a given year.

Who are we to determine what's a summer or winter franchise?

Maybe it will be a summer film. All it is now is a potential franchise. A big one possibly. We'll see.

Yes, it's a small franchise, but a franchise nonetheless.

A franchise that is pretty much over. We are talking about new franchises not has beens.

Good.

Warner Bros. now owns Mortal Kombat after buying Midway Games. A franchise that they can exploit.

So I guess between Superman and Kombat, Kombat is more likely to be the next big thing at WB, nevermind the fact that it will also require a reboot.

The animated features can not carry a studio like Warner Bros. If this was a Pixar or Dreamworks branch off company then you can focus soley on those films, but it isn't.

And to the second point... the only franchise that you listed that would be remotely capable, IMO, of dominating the summer is WoW. But even then, it will start off slow with all the skeptics and non-geeks WB needs to win over to make a decent profit. As far as GL, it only bodes well for Supes if it does well.
