I havent been extremly fond of this film yet but Im betting my money that this fillm will be the top at box office spot this summer.
Pirates seem way to overrated by critics...plenty hated the new trailer.
Da Vinci has had terrible reviews...Itll have a strong opening but word of mouth will bring it down.
Its between X-men and Supes imo.
I think Superman will take the title for number 1 summer flick

if this movie does really well, it still only going to make minimum money for WB. They have spent so much money in the past to get this project off the ground.

Back in the days of Tim Burton WB paid Cage 20mil and burton 10mil as part of a deal. The deal meant that if the film didn't get made they still be paid. Its in the book "tales from development hell," look it up its a good read.

Also not forgeting the other times they have tried, paying for scripts, pre production etc.

In otherwords, WB have spent so much money on this they are hoping that merchandise, dvds and sequals will be making them the profit and not the gross of the movie itself.

here's the thing.......you don't necessarily know what's 'playing it safe'.

you don't know if the public's reaction to this movie will be bad or good. you don't know if the public will see too much Reeve in Routh or not. you don't know if the public would've reacted badly to a Superman that shares NO resemblence with Reeve...

...but if playing it safe means giving fans a Spider-Man version of Superman, no i don't think so. Singer is creating something he believes very deep and holds different levels of underlying meanings.....and that's MORE than i can ask from a Superman movie. i'm loving what i'm seeing so far...

Thats exactly what Singer should have done because it's proven by doing it that way to make alot of BO numbers and if I can recall thats what WB is making SR for.

i agree doing a Spider-Manned version of Superman would've made WB more money but it wouldn't be nearly as good of a movie IMO. the dude askeds "should Singer have played it safe?" so i gave my opinion.....no, i think he's playing the field just fine...

being cautious of what? about being disappointed in the movie??? some people already have it made up in their mind that the movie is gonna suck so if they see the movie and end up not liking it then what've they lost?

Why do they hate Superman?

What has he done to deserve so much hatred?

Are these people jeoulous (sp?)? Are they afraid that the only thing that makes them feel good is to think that this movie will indeed 'bomb'?

This is a freaking movie for crying out loud!

I just started coming into forums that talk about movies and box office.

But was it like that with Batman? Spiderman? etc?

Good points all around.

I recall that with Spider-Man there was a LOT of carping (Tobey Maguire? Organic web-shooters? )--look how those two films turned out. Two of the best films I've seen lately.

Back to topic: yes, it's sad, but there are some people who just can't accept the fact we're getting a new film, with a new (and IMO a great) ensemble cast, and with a classic feel. C'est la vie.

Yes. They believe the WB will hire a 'real' director and they will get the Superman they want if this one fails.

Potential flop? After the awful trailer I realized I wasn't going to see this in the theater. Now, after the even worse TV spot I don't want to see this at all much less spend a cent on it. The Donner classic just gets better and better with age. RIP Christopher Reeve, you really are Superman.

If Superman fails at the Box Office, it could have a domino-effect for other comic book films, as a sign that people are truly getting tired of comic book films altogether. This is the biggest comic book character, I would think that its failure, would scare the hell out of other studios with comic book films about to come out.

Not only do I want good movies from Supes and X3, but I don't want them to fail. I just feel that the "AVERAGE MOVIE-GOERS" are going to get tire of comic book films real soon, there's just too many of them being released. And when that happens, with the cost of comic book movies being 150M to 250M, these movies are doomed.
