Superman Returns We don't like how this movie is looking (merged)

It won't flop...it'll simply "disappoint." And quietly make its money back on DVD sales.

I personally think it's gonna be a mega-hit. It could potentially be bigger than Spider-Man. Especially, if Pirates 2 would move its ass out of the way the following week.:O

The marketing is starting to rock: 2 trailers, good tv spots, pepsi, merchandise, probably a preview...
It will be one of the blockbusters of the summer.
No Spiderman numbers, but very good numbers.
Good reactions and reviews--->huge dvd sales.

A rebirth for a great franchise.

The disappoiments of the Summer are MI:3, The Da Vinci Code, Poseidon and probably the bad surprises will continue (POTC2?).
X3 and Superman Returns prove that people love superheroes movie: BB and FF did very well.

It will be a success. Critics understimate the power of the character and the marketing campaign. It's interesting that they liked MI:3 and The Da Vinci Code...two terrible movies. Probably they haven't seen a single movie...

What the superman returns movie needs is a script leak like batman begins

why leak the script when you can go to wal mart and buy the novelization for 9 dollars

Looks at MI3's numbers people... Thats what SR will do also.
This Summer will have only 3 major blockbusters, and those are Potc2, DVC. X3... Everything else will tank.
Mi3 & SR will both hit 140 - 170 tops in the usa.

The bad buzz around SR has not let down since the day Routh was cast... I cant see this having a good outlook...

How can you say the DVC will be in the top3 the critics already hate it so its not looking to good for the film, although that considered it might not have any bearing on the film. I have to state that i was concerned about this film a lot but of recent after hearing about the novel i dont think there is any one on this earth that can convince me this will be a bad movie supes really is back and its about time so all you negative boys and girls deal with it. :supes:

If it wasn't for Singer and his X-Men movies most likely we wouldn't have all the comic book/superhero movies that have been made the past 15 years or so.

Not to jump on anything i like how your defending singer its just that your statement is wrong i believe it was Blade that actually started the reign of the comic book films.:)

Blade showed that money could be made from a comic licence if done properly. X-Men brought the comic book films to the mainstream and kicked off the trend.

Blade simply started the trend of Marvel not using crappy production companies who hired C-movie writer and directors make their films, thats pretty much it.

DC has had WB for years, just in the mid-90's they let themselves get a bit to out there with the Batman films, then REALLY stumbled produsing Catwoman a couple years ago. Batman Begins put them on the right track.

It always comes down to the general audience though. Not fanboys who know these characters in detail, but Joe and Jane Average witha vauge memory of who the character is supposed to be. They are the ones who make or break a movie.

One thing´s for sure, it looks like X-Men3´s job became a lot easier, I thought it was going to face a VERY crowded weekend with all the recent big releases, but MI III disappointed, Poseidon sank and DVC looks like it will have no legs...

Superman Returns will be big. People will be shocked (at box office reports) when this movie comes out.

In the meantime....

Superman begins media takeover

Bryan Singer's Superman Returns has the box office steam to be the year's biggest film, and as the world waits eagerly, UK-based film magazine Total Film has put together a special collectors' issue.

im willing to bet that da vinci code will have a HUGE line tonight cuz i know im going to see it.. and pass my own judgement rather then listening to a fat tubby bastard who knows nothing of movies

Well, if X3 disappoints, which all indications are that it will (a laughable 95 minutes long), Over the Hedge could be the big winner in all of this........

look dude, we get that you probably want Superman to beat X3 because of some rivalry you imagine between the two films, but quit saying that X3 will be 95 minutes long. out of all the reports the lowest time that's been mentioned is an hour and 40 minutes, or 100 minutes total. it could even be longer than that, who knows? i know it's only a five minute difference, but i see that you're trying to do: it's like when a car salesman tells you that a car car is $6,999 because it sounds better than $7,000.

Look dude, I'm only stating facts as I've read them, and 95 minutes has been one of them. The other was 103 minutes. Happy?

It's true I'm more excited about SR, but that's just because it's been close to 20 years since we've seen him last. I have more invested in the X-Men franchise though, since I really liked the first two films and I'm hoping the franchise goes out on a high note. I'll be there for X3 opening day, FIRST showing Friday morning.

no problem...it was already pointed out I messed up on the time period...don't know why but I was thinking X-Men came out in the early to mid 90s....seems like it was way before 2000:confused: :O

I'm sorry, but Batman mostly, not just X-men kept the comic book movies alive. There was nothing in the late 80's to mid -90's but Batman.

X3 will be disappointing i think... i like most superhero movies... but x3 will not live up to its other 2 before it

Regarding X-Men 3, does it really matter how long a movie is?

Just speaking for myself here but lately movies have been too long just for the sake of being long. King Kong comes to mind which was unnecessary long. Long doesn´t always equal better nor does it equal being epic, a story can be told in a shorter amount of time and still be a quality movie. 1 hour 40 does sound a bit short for X-Men 3, but perhaps it will be 100 minutes that are tight and actionpacked.

And on that note, this is not the X-Men 3 spoiler forum, I´m spoiler free going into X-Men 3 so I wish that people would not post spoilers without adding a spoiler warning tag to their posts. The length of the movie is not a big deal, but something might come up in this thread.

Well, I guess we just assume that having that many characters in a 100 minute movie won't do them justice. I do agree King Kong didn't need to be that long, as well as some other longer films. I do hope I'm wrong about X3, and it ends up being an action packed fun film......

It's ridiculous that some of you don't believe that criticsm of this movie should be heard and we should just all go along and "trust Singer" or "Routh is Superman, deal with it".

I completely agree with the thread starter. Singer is ruining the franchise and I personally hope this movie bombs so that we could get a proper Superman.

Then again, at least it isn't Nicolas Cage.

I can't see how anyone can say that X3 will beat SR! WTF?!

Have you watched the 7min crap..erm...i mean clip from X3?

The Superman Returns Trailers and TV spots have put EVERYTHING X3 to shame.

AND this has been comfirmed by several people that aren't fanboys of either - the casual viewer is WAY more interested in SR than X3.

Based on the trailers and Cannes reviews:
Davinci will ONLY open big, but fizzle after people start talking.
X3 will do better than MI:3 - but not much.
PoTC will be huge.
Superman Returns will be huge.

It's not that we are against the negative criticism...it's just that people are judging this movie without even seeing it. How can you claim he ruined the franchise if you havent seen the movie????? How many people thought that Fantastic Four ruined the franchise too(as of this writing FF2 is planned with an appearancee by Galactus)?????
I am taking a "wait and see" attitude. I will criticsize it when I have seen it. Bashing a movie based on a few pics and a trailer is rather extreme.
