Superman Returns We don't like how this movie is looking (merged)

It's ridiculous that some of you don't believe that criticsm of this movie
woah woah woah...you act as if the critics might be RIGHT but there's no such thing as being 'right' or 'wrong' about the movie. you can agree or you can disagree...it's just that a lot of us don't agree because our opinions and perspectives are different.

we should just all go along and "trust Singer" or "Routh is Superman, deal with it".
well for the negative thinkers...yes, deal with it because this is what we're getting....but for the people who actual LIKE what we're getting (such as me) we're not just 'trusting Singer'. we're getting a movie that we actually might like...

Singer is ruining the franchise and I personally hope this movie bombs so that we could get a proper Superman.
IMO we ARE getting a proper Superman. i don't think Singer is ruining anything considering the hopes of a new franchise are still up in the air...

...it's not as if Singer is taking over a franchise that's been successful lately (Superman's been out of it for a while) and screwing it up *cough, ratner*

Hello?!? Nolan did Batman Begins & he doesn't even read comics or wasn't a fan like you're making big deal about Singer not being a comic book fans. You whiners should know that you don't have to be a comic book fan to make a good movie. It based on how you handle the story & understand the characters. You all should stop claiming it going to fail like it true, when you haven't seen the damn thing. And how you guys know about the whole story to know it going to suck? You don't!! So stop claiming it bad till you see it first. Oh yeah, close this thread since BlueWolf is fussing about it going to be bad & act like he know the whole thing. And seen it too, when he haven't. I swear many of you guys are whining & hoping it fail 'cause it not done your way.

One of the best posts I have ever read in this thread

I understood exactly what Cinnamon was saying, so I don't think his English is all that bad. He has improved immensely since first coming to the boards and works at it everyday. Its pretty tough to be fluent in 3 languages, nevermind that he is dealing with 3 different languages on a daily basis.

Are you from heavens? Thanx :)

As Molina said in The Da Vinci Code, "You are my angel".

He's translating Russian into English.....so until you can do as well with his language...leave the snide childish comments at home.

Thanx

I havent been extremly fond of this film yet but Im betting my money that this fillm will be the top at box office spot this summer.
Pirates seem way to overrated by critics...plenty hated the new trailer.
Da Vinci has had terrible reviews...Itll have a strong opening but word of mouth will bring it down.
Its between X-men and Supes imo.
I think Superman will take the title for number 1 summer flick

WOW! I heard it from X-Men fan? Cool. I will see X3 next week

Nolan was a Batman fan, he's had Batman homages in other films, like in Insomnia before he did BB. Also, the script was co-written by David Goyer who is a big comic fan and comic writer who purposely took elements largely verbatim from comics like Year One and Tales of the Dark Knight. As for X-Men, I maintain, it wasn't Singer that made it work but the writing by David Hayter.

Those of us who are critical/disappointed with Singer's choices and direction do so from what we've seen so far and from what we've seen and heard from spoiled/released scripts, the novelization, and insiders, it seems what we see in the trailers is pretty accurate as being indicative of the whole product. Those of us who don't like what we see, believe Singer has badly handled the story & misrepresented the characters as well as making poor design choices in the process that only accentuate those weaknesses..

Well, I guess we just assume that having that many characters in a 100 minute movie won't do them justice. I do agree King Kong didn't need to be that long, as well as some other longer films. I do hope I'm wrong about X3, and it ends up being an action packed fun film......

The thing about Kong is, you had a 3 hour movie devoted to only three characters (four if you count Kong).

It was overdevelopment. X3 has atleast ten characters who SHOULD be developed...(Xavier, Wolverine, Jean, Cyclops, Magneto, Storm, Beast, Rogue, Iceman, Kitty)...in an hour and 45 minutes. Bad form.

I think 1225-155 minutes are good length for movie.

And X3 should be longer than just 1 hour with half.

If Superman fails at the Box Office, it could have a domino-effect for other comic book films, as a sign that people are truly getting tired of comic book films altogether. This is the biggest comic book character, I would think that its failure, would scare the hell out of other studios with comic book films about to come out.

Not only do I want good movies from Supes and X3, but I don't want them to fail. I just feel that the "AVERAGE MOVIE-GOERS" are going to get tire of comic book films real soon, there's just too many of them being released. And when that happens, with the cost of comic book movies being 150M to 250M, these movies are doomed.

I do not understand this thinking. When a romantic comedy fails, people don't stop going to see romantic comedies. Do people think "there are too many action films or cop thrillers or romantic comedies being released"? Then why single out comic book films? SUPERMAN RETURNS is not likely to fail at the box office. At all. Previous comic book films not doing so hot (DAREDEVIL, LXG, even HULK in some ways) have not affected the market that strongly.

It won't flop...it'll simply "disappoint." And quietly make its money back on DVD sales.

Disappoint in what regard? By the time all is said and done, internationally, it's going to clean up.

Hello?!? Nolan did Batman Begins & he doesn't even read comics or wasn't a fan like you're making big deal about Singer not being a comic book fans.

Chris Nolan was a huge Batman fan, and a big fan of the late 70's/early 80's era of the character, which is why that's what ended up represented onscreen. And I have already pointed out that Singer and his writers read TONS of Superman comics before writing SUPERMAN RETURNS. As for X-MEN, Bryan Singer had a lot to do with the writing of it, even though he was uncredited.

My point exactly. We have Donners movies, Dean Caines painful tv show and we have Smallville which is 80% romance but is very entertaining.
Singer just completely ignored the comic books..
Now can we please have an epic Superman story based off of Superman comics..you know...the origin of this character. People did NOT have a hard time understanding and enjoying Batman Begins and most people didn't even know who Ras Al Ghul was before they watched it.
Just put the 70's movies behind us and lets do this properly and on a grand scale.

Superman Begins

No. He didn't. Watch the movie. You will see. Or was The Ace O' Clubs in the Donner films?

Last I checked, being The Last Son of Krypton was a big aspect from the comics. That will be explored in this film. So will a number of comic book inspired concepts.

Superman Begins
you forgot Superboy...

This movie is not going to flop. It may not beat Pirates-teenage girls and young women do love their Bloom and Depp-but it will not flop.

I honestly don't believe it will flop. The numbers should turn out to show it successfull, though I don't think its going to be the big summer movie.

Once and for all: what is the budget of the film? It is 180 Million, isn't it? Not 200 Million, not EVEN 250-300 Million, thats nuts.

singer doesnt put out KICK ASS trailers he makes his trailers about the story and themes just look at the X2 trailers they are exactly the same way mainly about story with hints of the action and the film was amazing it will be the same for superman have no fear it will blow X3 out of the water

SCREW BRETT RATNER!

The marketing is going to be huge. No possibility for a flop. It could be the blockbuster of the summer.
