Superman Returns We don't like how this movie is looking (merged)

It seems there is a thread about this every other day. Am I mad that Lex is CREATING a totally new land mass in the middle of the ocean with Kryptonian technology? The answer is no. The only way i would be upset is if he was trying to blow apart the united states again using the fault lines.

Singer's not one for imagination, he's too closed minded, and for that he should be kept away from comic book movies.

This does feel like a retread, yet different, but in a way it's as if the first one is being remade to make way for a new era of Superman movies. This one does look good, but for the sequel it should have a new director and be more faithful to the comics.

It's good to have Lex in the movie as the villian, as it's been years since there's been a Superman movie, the main villian in the first should be the arch nemesis of the hero, but in part two, it's time for a big Super Villian.

Alot of people just want to see something never done before, and they feel with technology being what it is now, Superman's potential for big stories are being wasted on a small Lex story, but this one seems like a big Lex scheme, Huge I'd say. The thought of him trying to make a new Krypton sounds really cool.

Now if he was just trying to blow stuff up and increase property value of his land again then, that would suck and be lame, but this is pretty cool. I think.:supes:

Yeah....uhhh.....this plot is completely different. And....uhhh....having a different director do the sequel is friggin' ******ed.

For those critics who are predicting that SR will flop are clearly out of their minds. There is NO way SR will flop. How could this movie possible flop. Yes, the budget is very high about 200-225 million. But in order for this movie to 'flop' will will have to gross like say about 150 WW. Sorry haters. I just ain't happening. The critics can say what they won't but the superman fanbase, comic fanbase, and general audience don't care what the critics have to say. Right now people are dying to see a good summer flick and SR will deliver. The Superman name alone will bring in 200 million dom. and 200 mill overseas. Then you can add DVD sales and rentals and you'll have a pretty good profit. But let's face it will gross a lot more than that. Are you kidding me? Assuming that this movie opens in 4150 theatres and has a PTA of 25,500 we're looking at a 105.8 mil. OW. The hype will reach a whole new level come mid-june. Tv's will be bombarded by commericals and we'll be hearing John Williams theme in all glory where we go. I heard people say MI3 would own the summer, then DVC will own the summer. In the words of Lex Luthor WRONG!!! X-3 will do good and same with Pirates but not as big as everybody is making out to be. When all is said and done, when all the dust clears, the only one that will be left standing is the Man of Steel. The critics couldn't take down Star Wars. They never will. The same is the case for Superman. 70 years and still going strong. Soon, very soon my friends, everybody and ever the naysayers will believe a man can fly.

I dunno.....I think critics usually manage to equate such a large budget to flop......flash and no substance formula, I imagine.

Fans will love it....and in the end.....that's all that really, really counts.

The only movies that the critics will have an affect on are below average movies like Gigli. But when it comes to the big blockbuster like Superman, Star Wars, Spider-Man there is nothing the critics can say. There is nothing they can do to enourage viewers not to see this film. Let me tell you guys something. I'm a huge Star Wars fan. But in IMHO, the prequels were pretty bad. The visual effects were great, the story was fantastic but Haydan was a terrible cast. And the dialogue was atrocious. Revenge of the Sith was good though expect for the dialogue. The critics blasted Menace and Clones, but did that stop the viewer from watching Star Wars? No way. You know why. Because it's a block buster movie that has got a huge fanbase. Superman is one of the biggest icons every and nobody is going to miss this chance of seeing the Man of Steel on the big screen again. It's going to be great summer flick and that's what people are waiting to see.

star wars is an excellent example of a gazillion-trillion-bajillion dollar franchise brought back from the dead and was completely critic-proof no matter how crappy it was. Lucas could have put the starwarskid up on screen swinging his golf stick for two hours and fifteen minutes and it'd have still been a huge success. ok maybe that was a little too ridiculous an example but ya get what I'm saying.

Exactly. Very few movies out there are critic-proof and the Superman Franchise is one of them. You got the fans of the old Superman movies, you got the fans of Smallville, you got the comic fans and so on. You got all of comicdom who will go and see this film and yes that includes the marvel fans. The naysayers can say what ever they want but come June 30th when the hype is at an all -time high they'll be heading to the theatre for this grand event. This isn't just some movie. It's Superman coming ot the big screen in 20 years! Every movie goer will see this on the 4th of July weekend (unless of couse you'd rather see devil wears a prada whatever the heck that movie is). I'm sorry I'll take Superman over the devil anyday. That's the kind of movie I want to see in the summer. It's going to be fun and I'm sure the general audience are going to enjoy it too. I see Spider-Man and Star Wars numbers here and therefore this movie will NOT flop. The critics can sit in their dark basements and writing all their little articles but they won't bring down the Man of steel. To even think that this movie will flop is laughable.

You know I hear every one bashing the newer Star Wars all the time, and I wonder just what was so bad with them? I mean I just recently rewatched EP.I-III, and they were very enjoyable films, but in any case I am getting a little off topic here. To address the critics, who really, and I mean REALLY cares what they say. I mean all critics ever talk about are those boring, crapping indie films anyway. I mean how many here have your buddies over to watch midsummer afternoon's dew on the willow tree or some other *****?:O FANS UNITE! :supes: HAS RETURNED!!! He is more powerful than a bunch of critics and whiners!

That's an improper characterization of critics as a bunch of artsy/sophisticated/pompous elite types. The vast majority of critics are everyday people like you and me...but they have the benefit of experience and have probably watched more films than the average person.

Star Wars was not critic proof in that it wasn't criticized...but critic proof as in critical reviews didn't hurt it simply because it was Star Wars. Walking out of Ep III, I listened around me and the conversations were overwhelmingly negative...but they still went to see it just because IT WAS STAR WARS. George Lucas is simply an older guy, without the edge of youth and he decided to make a more family friendly film heavy on special effects and failed in regard to plot and character...instead choosing to make it more fun for kids by having giant lizards and fancy costumes and a flappy eared jamican alien named Jar Jar Binks.

Now i want to state that i'm a big Supes fan. Not fanatical but big. I have a couple Superman T-Shirts and have collected various Supes comics since i was a teenager. I've even had Superman as my PC desktop for over 4 years now. When i first heard that Bryan Singer was doing a Superman movie i was ecstatic. It's about time Superman was resurrected. And so my tracking of the movie's progress began.

Now... After all this time and waiting the trailers and teasers im feeling a bit... well... underwhelmed... I want so badly to love this movie and i keep trying to convince myself its gonna rock my socks. However, each time i see a new trailer or tv spot i become less and less enthused. I'm sure the movie will be good but will it be great? Will we be talking about it with excitment in a year like the Batman fans still obsessing over BB?

Am i alone in feeling this way?

Not at all. Look around, every message board on the subject of SR is sharply polarized.

I'm optimistic about SR as well, but I've seen some things that have filled me with plenty of caution. Time will tell, hell it even adds to the fun of waiting.

I agree with Frank O'Connor but to the rest of u. Da Vinci is not the best, if it is then we are in some trouble. The best will be Pirates 2 and the flop will be Miami Vice and the median movie will be X-Men. Hell, X-men will probably be the most underrated because of all the other big hits like Superman, Pirates and the like. But i trully think the most underrated and unappreciated will be Lady in the Water with Paul Giamatti. Its a jumpy movie but not a scary movie. It'll be good for those with big imaginations.

I don´t. That´s all I feel like saying at this point.

Ahh a new place for people with negative feeling's about the movie to get bashed......thanks Mr. Mod's!!!!!

Am I the only one here who thinks that Superman Returns is going to make more than Spider-Man domestically and worldwide...is there no one else? :o...
