What can DC/WB do now to move forward? Is there hope? - Part 1

I wouldn't go that far mainly because people think Superman should be widely accepted and shouldn't question himself. While I like that if you do put Superman in the real world that people would question him and would feel distrust to a man with that much power. I also like the fact that they made Superman feel more human. I also don't get why people complain out Superman and Batman not being buddies from the start when if you read the Batman has in his first meetings with Superman has always not trusted him and they were usually at odds at first.

That's why it wouldn't make $1B regardless of which cut was released. The majority don't really care for this version of Superman.

No this is the Superman most people wanted. If you remember back during the Superman Returns days most people wanted this Superman and wanted the Reeve/Routh/Donner type Superman to be gone and this is the Superman they asked for. While he is more true to the post crisis Superman still the public perception of Superman is a little wrong when in pictures and posters you always see him smiling or crying while comic Superman smiles mostly around family and friends and is more serious when it is business/time to go to work.

Superman is a dude from Kansas that moved to the big city that wants do the right thing. Capture that as often as you can with some concise moments of heart and you will be fine. If you have that you can get away with as many superpowered fights as you want.

And that's what Snyder's Superman is.

I disagree. People just wanted a slightly grittier Superman movie, with more action, more fighting, not just lifting heavy things and being weakened by Lex Luthor and kryptonite, which is what Superman Returns was. And a little more grounded, not so much the "big blue boy scout" as well.

What they didn't want is a moping, brooding Superman that seems to hate being Superman.

Superman was never moping or brooding. You had in MoS a Clark Kent who wasn't sure that he wanted to be Superman instead he wanted to see the world and see if there were more people out there like him while he was helping people. That Superman comes straight from Birthright and Man of Steel. Then you have a Superman questioning himself because things weren't as easy as he thought they were going to be and just needed some answers or to sort somethings out. All that is normal for Superman which is something I liked. You want a moping, brooding Superman you should look to one of the greatest Superman stories ever Kingdom Come.

Honestly if the DC/WB want to do some good to move forward then they should start putting the focus and effort into their other heroes and just give the Bat-Family a rest. Personally that's what I think they should do because the they have such a great stable of heroes and all you hear about is Batman this and Batman that. I understand that Batman does bring in money but in the same he doesn't need to be the focus of all the movies or in every movie. I Honestly believe that you could put out an animated Flash, GL, WW, or Aquaman movie and not have Batman in it and it will do well. Just like how I think JL dark would've been much better without Batman as well. I also think the WB should've waited on doing SvB and should've made a Man of Steel sequel and continue the plans with the Wonder Woman, Flash and Aquaman first before making SvB. Then use the ending of SvB as it is already being done as the launching point for JL. However I don't see anything like that being done anytime soon.

Oh I agree with you on some aspects. But I blame the WB more than Snyder for the reaction to SvB. I think that if the WB released the Ultimate Cut of the movie instead of making him cut the film and make it more of a Batman movie than I think the movie might have been better received.

You can't make a Superman/Batman movie and then cut out most of Superman's scenes like they did and expect to keep the movie the same. The heart of that movie was Superman and the WB cut that out in favor of Batman which is sad but understandable because to them it's business as usual.

Sorry they didn't title the movie the way you would have liked.

5 ways to fix the DCEU

Fixed.

So...if your flagship A list tent pole box office release for the year fails to make over $1B. Gets panned by the critics. With fans giving it the lowest Cinemascore since Catwoman and GL, what else is there to judge by?

I don't think 'judging' anything 'helps' as such but the Ultimate Cut (as in the definitive version of the film) would be a good start, in terms of it presenting a 'fuller', more rounded film in it's correct completed edition that the director would have wished the film to be released.

The first part is kind of an odd one because it doesn't take into affect that majority of sales will be holiday sales, you won't see CW all of a sudden have another burst of sales and should maintain similar numbers to B vs S as most businesses tend to reach below average expectations in the early months (January February), and movies won't pick back up again.

I don't understand your reasoning here, it just strikes me as hair-splitting. CW came out on blu-ray in September, so the holiday bump you are positing would not be significant and would have benefitted both films. My point remains: BvS has sold a few more copies, but CW is selling better given that it has sold more in a smaller timeframe.

And yes, I figured it wasn't straight profit but it would be a "crap" ton of money, it's more so that I'm arguing that there isn't any credibility to this "DCEU" is doomed narrative that people keep trying to portray. Although, I'll be honest, I'm never sure if people actually understand how they are coming across as and just have poor linguistic skills or they really truly do believe there is no hope.

I don't think anyone is arguing that the DCEU is doomed from a financial standpoint, but the vocal displeasure from fans, critics, and audiences have had an impact on their bottomline as demonstrated by their course corrections.

Shouldnt the thread be called something like
"What hope do the people who dont like this DCEU do now going forward"?

Yep. I see tons of hope. I'm enjoying the DCEU better than most of the MCU right now. Honestly its MCU I'm starting to get worried about but that's another thread.

We have WW and JL coming up and lots more. Some didnt like the first 3. Thats just bad luck. Your time will come. It might be a few movies. The next movie or a longer wait or never. Its just how it is. Regardless of what people think of Snyder (I love his movies), it will be exciting seeing the 7 heros up on the screen saving the day in Justice League for the first time.

Wonder Woman is going to be a blast because I and alot of people really enjoyed her small part (with a big impact) in BvS and WW is her first solo film which is a land mark film.

Aquaman is something special too because it has never been done before. Him and his world too.

The Batman solo has Matt Reeves attached (excellent director with blockbuster experience) and Ben Affleck, which he blew most if not all expectations in his debut as Batman which had people demanding a solo from him as Batman. Him directing was just a little too much for everyones wishes.

We are getting a freakin Nightwing movie. Who cares if nobody saw it coming (people got pissed because they didnt see it coming, unreal) but its coming now and we should all be excited. They greenlit a Nightwing movie with a director already attached. Anything is possible.

The future looks exciting regardless of box office and reviews (they will continue and thats a fact) because each film is a new chance. Some have already made their mind up but I will always have something to enjoy or look forward to.

Thing is there are a lot of people of whom out of the 3 DCEU movies are 0 out of 3 in terms of movies they liked. A lot of vocal people. That and in terms of boxoffice while Suicide Squad exceeded expectations, many people consider MOS/BVS to have not reached their full potential. I know I thought there was no way a Batman/Superman movie could gross under a billion.

Also WB is going a different way from the "Marvel Studios Method". Prior to WB's DCEU was really the only way a cinematic universe model was implemented. Marvel Studios has been pretty good about being transparent with their plan, despite a couple hiccups (Ant-Man getting tossed around, Spiderman shifting stuff back). Something by the way they never needed to do, but people got used to.

I'm just assuming the 0 for 3 people are just the loudest people, and not the majority, its happening consistently in the media, I personally assumed it would hit closer to a billion than it did, but after seeing it I kind of understood why it didn't, not because it was bad, but this is the kind of movie that needs sequels too make it better, and it sounds like with the recent comments about Wonder Woman and how it will add more depth to her appearance in B vs S, I was right. Its the same way I have felt about this current crop of DCAU movies, as more get released, the more I've gone back and liked the previous ones which I disliked. Once I understood what WB is doing it made me realize that people that shout doom and gloom are usually just saying it prematurely.

How is the MCU in trouble?

Its doing fine certainly not in trouble, just moving away from my personal preferences with some of its endings and rumors of stuff just enough to make me a little nervous is all.

The thread title should be, "Place where people who hate DCEU can come and bash it in the guise of hoping for improvement.

If JL makes, say 850/900 million, has the same critical and audience reaction as BvS had, do people honestly think WB will just keep on making them?

This is a troll right?

Like you can't be that daft right?

If that happends I could see a shift to more Batman related characters getting pushed, and more solos. A Justice League 2 could be pushed back.

A SS 2, the BOP, Batman, all have good boxoffice prospects. And we'll see how Wonder Woman, and Aquaman get recieved. If they do well we will see sequels.

I dunno. When does the next Transformers movie come out?

In that scenario they will definitely keep making them, but it'd be another notable DC disappointment for WB. And if that happens I think they'll soft reboot the universe and just move ahead with whatever worked and leave the rest behind.

I honestly believe it, yes.

thats how depressing it has become.

None of the DCEU movies have straight up bombed. But I don't know if WB would want to give him JL 2, if we get another 800-900 million grossing movie starring multiple big name heroes.
