What can DC/WB do now to move forward? Is there hope? - Part 1

We have WW and JL coming up and lots more. Some didnt like the first 3. Thats just bad luck. Your time will come. It might be a few movies. The next movie or a longer wait or never. Its just how it is.

I really liked MoS and BvS, and to a slightly lesser extent SS. I'm not blind to the problems but the enjoyment far outweighed them for me.

Regardless of what people think of Snyder (I love his movies), it will be exciting seeing the 7 heros up on the screen saving the day in Justice League for the first time.
God, yes.

Wonder Woman is going to be a blast because I and alot of people really enjoyed her small part (with a big impact) in BvS and WW is her first solo film which is a land mark film.
WW is the DCEU film I'm most looking forward to - and I'm a decades-long Batman fan!

If that happends I could see a shift to more Batman related characters getting pushed, and more solos. A Justice League 2 could be pushed back.

A SS 2, the BOP, Batman, all have good boxoffice prospects. And we'll see how Wonder Woman, and Aquaman get recieved. If they do well we will see sequels.

This.

If JL makes, say 850/900 million, has the same critical and audience reaction as BvS had, do people honestly think WB will just keep on making them?

Yeah. They'll balance the BO with the critics' reviews and conclude that they should continue broadly following the same path while making tweaks here and there to improve film quality.

Pretty much. As long as the movies continue to make at least marginal profit, they'll continue shambling along zombie-style. Only either a total inarguable failure or a massive obvious success will have them change.

The thread title should be, "Place where people who hate DCEU can come and bash it in the guise of hoping for improvement.

Ironic timing - you posted it one comment after the guy foreshadowing problems with the MCU.

I honestly believe it, yes.

thats how depressing it has become.

I think both depressed for opposite reasons. I think they are really good movies. BvS was undermined by its theatrical cut but its a great film IMO.

Warner Bros. Reportedly Trying to Film Another DCEU Movie in 2017

I don't see how it's that bad to shoot a film this year. I can't imagine GCS for example having that extensive of a shoot, infact were I WBs I'd treat this as a lower budgeted DC movie (I've said before they should have 3 tiers of budget). Shoot it this year edit it early next year. It's then ready to go for mid 2018. As I've said before films are often in the can way before they're ready for release. This ones already got a director, lead and script so I don't think it will be that difficult or detrimental to the film.

Exactly, GCS is much further ahead than SS 2 or Flash at this point and GCS is a low budget DC film, it would require a few months of shooting, which is easily achievable.

It's just a matter of getting the right script done in time, at the same time, WB should ensure that they don't rush the script like they did with Suicide Squad.

Well that's the only issue really, is the script up to scratch? If it is then they should be able to get this thing rolling.

Therein lies the question of whether this writer for GCS is up to snuff- see, I'm confused if this writer for that recent horror movie Robbie was in is the writer for GCS or the Harley spinoff- and if there'll be more time than six weeks to develop something.

I don't understand how just yesterday, fans were okay with "Aquaman was being pushed back" because "let's not rush".

So, according to Variety reporter Justin Kroll, Warner Bros. is currently hoping one of five films will be ready to shoot by the end of the year

Shoot by the end of the year. Not, finished filming by the end of the year. Which means, that while a lot of CBM finish filming a year in advance of their release date, they want to start filming at most a year before?

that while a lot of CBM finish filming a year in advance of their release date, they want to start filming at most a year before?

Some do have a more "aggressive" schedule. Say Homecoming. It started shooting on June 2016, and its coming out in July 2017. Or Logan which started shooting on May 2016 for a March 2017 release. Depends on the nature of the project really. If its a small scaled movie like Sirens and the script is ready, maybe.

Also lets not forget Kroll said this too :

Justin Kroll‏ @krolljvar
That said if scripts aren't ready to go, studio is content just shooting AQUAMAN this year till films are ready to go

If it happens, it happens. I just find the, it's okay to take your time in one breath, but it's also okay to have an "aggressive schedule" in another, well funny.

Yeah well. The first statement is out of pragmatism. The second one is out of hope they know what they are doing and wishing to see the characters you love sooner.

Haha, I was just messing with ya :D

Some do have a more "aggressive" schedule. Say Homecoming. It started shooting on June 2016, and its coming out in July 2017. Or Logan which started shooting on May 2016 for a March 2017 release. Depends on the nature of the project really. If its a small scaled movie like Sirens and the script is ready, maybe.

The post production process on Marvel Studios' films is really condensed, like 5-6 months on average. Avengers and Doctor Strange took about 6 months each to put together after filming wrapped.

There's no reason why WB can't streamline the process. They just need to get the scripts right, pair them with the right director, and go full-speed ahead. The problem with some of the DC films are either the scripts or mismatched directors.

This is a good point. However, Marvel at this point is running like a really big tv series. I don't think individual directors have a huge say over effects work and such.

WB's more filmmaker-centric approach will probably never get things that streamlined, but there is still plenty of room for improvement to get things rolling more smoothly.

It also depends on the filmmaker. Nolan shot TDK and TDKR in summer to late 2007 and 2011 for their July 2008 and 2012 releases and finished around springtime.

There's no reason why WB can't streamline the process some. James Wan will almost certainly have Aquaman done by spring or summer 2018 despite the recent date move to December.

Something that could be done: think outside the box when it comes to getting talent. Seriously, getting Chris McKay for Nightwing- if that sticks- felt like lightning striking, similar to when Marvel Studios looked at Ryan Coogler and got him for Black Panther, especially after Creed's success.

I know there are many who love Snyder and I'm sure some would defend Goyer to their deaths as well, but you can't just fall back on the people you've worked with when there's up and coming fresh talent out there. Talent with a proven and, to be frank, positive track record.

Now it's a case by case basis. Again, the Russo Brothers went from Winter Soldier to Infinity War in the same way that Whedon went from Serenity and mostly TV to The Avengers and Age of Ultron, but the Russos had their case of duds. Conversely, you look at Ayer's work prior to Suicide Squad and then look at...well, Suicide Squad.

Point is there should be more thought and care put into who sits in the director's chair and writes the script.
