What can DC/WB do now to move forward? Is there hope? - Part 1

They've got one more. It's Wonder Woman shaped.

If that isn't a home run? If it's of the same quality as BvS and SS? Oh, boy. The knives will really come out. The release of Justice League would be the dampest squib in movie history.

Yes, there's a lot riding on Wonder Woman. It needs to be a critical and commercial success, to pave the way for Justice League to come in and make the big bucks. If JL fails, well then as others have said I think it'll be over to the Batman Cinematic Universe.

I'm sure Batman could support his own cinematic universe, but honestly, I'd just see it as confirming that DC has no idea how to handle characters other than Batman outside of the comics..

Well keep in mind even in the comics, the Batman line is usually massive. Most other JL members have only 1 book, if that.

Not at all. Batman can certainly support a cinematic universe, but he doesn't need one. I'm tired of everything revolving around Batman.
I don't understand what your point is. The entire DC brand can support a cinematic universe, but it doesn't need one either. I have the same answer for people who are tired of comic book movies; you don't have to watch them.

Any thoughts here on WB announcing so many upcoming DCEU movies that where not mentioned on the original slate? I've seen some people not really care, and others be very concerned by it.

They wouldn't make those announcements if they didn't think they were what people wanted to hear. It says to me that they're trying to right the ship and deliver what they believe the general audiences and the fans want. Obviously they'll never please everybody, but to me it says they're trying.

When you consider that just the last two Nolan Batman movies made over $2 billion and all the Superman movies combined only made $2 billion, and everything else, Green Lantern, Catwoman, Johah Hex, etc. were all flops,
it's easy to see why WB is in love with Batman.

Bring on the Batman cinematic universe

If this was the direction WB was going to go, I wish they decided upon this 5 years ago.

The Nolan Batman would have been the perfect launching point for a Batman cinematic universe. You had a beloved universe among audiences, critics and fans. An easy win. You could have easily launched Nightwing, Suicide Squad and GCS films from there, and more.

Nolan never would have gone for that. I always felt Batman Begins and the Dark Knight was a perfect start for a Batman series that would run like Bond but then he went and finished it off with Rises. Which I had my issues with, especially the whole ending the series thing. Nolan could have easily done a trilogy that was the early years of Batman. Then the next filmmaker could have done his trilogy etc.

You don't really need Nolan's approval. They should have let him do his trilogy, and then found a talented director akin to him in 2005 to continue with the spinoff films in the same established universe.

Realistically, it would have been nearly impossible to re-launch and reboot Batman so soon after Nolan, and still get a positive response from critics and general audiences. The Dark Knight was too big of a win to be rebooted so soon.

Other than John Blake who would you spin off in that world? Sorry but I have to disagree there's absolutely no way that would have worked

Nolan's universe was pretty closed off, so it's hard for me to imagine a "Batman-Family" and enough content and characters for a whole universe worth of films .

Still though, I have no doubt that we would have seen Bale and Nolan return for Batman 4 in 2015 or 2016 , had Nolan not ended the series, and that WB would have used the Nolanverse as a jumping off point had Nolan allowed it in addition to Bale being the Batman in that universe as opposed to a new continuity and a recast.

I don't understand what your point is.

I've said it twice now.

1) The Batman character doesn't need a cinematic universe that revolves around him. Whether or not he can reasonably sustain one is irrelevant (to me).

2) I want the studio to focus on other characters beyond ones related to Batman because I feel that he already gets far more than his fair share of the spotlight.

Don't know how I can get any clearer.

The entire DC brand can support a cinematic universe, but it doesn't need one either. I have the same answer for people who are tired of comic book movies; you don't have to watch them.

Awesome.

We've had a good 20+ years to digest batman, no wonder he's as big as he is. Bring on the other characters.

Somebody here joked that the WB should produce an Aztec movie, but you know what, I'd be all for it. Sure many people would complain about the C-list character getting a film, but at least Aztec has nothing to do with Batman. Better still, Aztec has a pretty interesting backstory that would lend itself to a decent popcorn flick.

I'd certainly watch it  For some reason Aztec's backstory has always reminded me a little of Marvel's Puma's.

Batman v. Superman v. Hillary At The 37th Annual Razzie Awards

Proving once again that Warner Bros can’t seem to do anything right with their superhero movie universe, even when it comes to doing everything wrong, Batman v. Superman has once again failed to live up to expectations. First, the movie failed to secure nominations in every category of the 2017 Razzie Awards. And then, to make matters worse, it didn’t even win the most Razzies, tying Hillary’s America with just four awards each. What a disappointment!

Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice earned awards for Jesse Eisenberg as Worst Supporting Actor, “Ben Affleck & His BFF (Baddest Foe Forever) Henry Cavill” for Worst Screen Combo, and as a whole in the categories of Worst Remake, Rip-Off, Or Sequel and Worst Screenplay. Hillary’s America: The Secret History of the Democratic Party, on the other hand, not only took the top spot of Worst Picture, but also earned the prestigious insults of Worst Actress for Becky Turner, Worst Actor for Dinesh D’Souza, and Worst Director for D’Souza and Bruce Schooley.

In the one remaining category, Worst Supporting Actress, Kristin Wiig won for her work on Zoolander 2 while Mel Gibson won the Razzie Redeemer Award.

If there were a DC Movie reboot to ever happen, how about making the Teen Titans/Young Justice line-up the flag ship DC Movie "It team" as a way to set themselves apart from Marvel? Then you have the adults like Superman/Batman etc act as supporting characters who eventually get their own movies with folk from the Teen Titans movies as supporting characters in those and then we go from there?

That could work, if they can do it legally.
I don't know if they have the legal rights to do all of those characters.
That's why they haven't made a Superboy movie.

Deadline April 18, 2013:
Superboy Leaps Warner Bros Legal Hurdle

That would actually be a really good way of rebooting the whole thing when they eventually need to with actors moving on etc. Young Justice the animated show does this really really well and doing that in a feature length live action universe would be fantastic. Heck just imagine the first episode(s) of Young Justice with the members finding Superboy done in live action :hmr:

Takes just as much faith to think all of them are going to continue to be terrible.
Not really though. It could go either way but one has far more to base the chances of failure on than the other way around.
